    The video was good, it might be even better if you show moddifications or what a begginer might start with at differing / graduated levels of difficulty. for example you might demonstrate what a beginning level student could start with and when they might or should try to increase the difficulty how they should progress. Something like, when you are able to do 20+ with full extension you should remove the chair, as a progression to a more advanced level. You could do that with both beg. and advanced levels of progression etc.

    Great video , but why the weird sub bass in the background ..? I couldn't hear a lot of what you said because of that buzzing sound.. I dont mean to critize you in a bad way , but maybe you can have more views if you use better background music .

    • @donavantkd
      @donavantkd  8 лет назад +1

      hahaha. No offense taken at all. Sometimes it's so hard finding good background music. I tried to keep the volume low but lately I've been finding better music. Thanks so much for watching! :)

    • @thepanos
      @thepanos 7 лет назад +4

      you don't need background music. People resort to background music when they don't have original content. Its hard to focus on what you're saying with the music.

    this is incredible.
    i want to ask you, if i did them 5 times a week or maybe more, for two months, would my kicks be straight 180 degrees with that strength?
    note: i'm a professional poomsae player so i'm not a beginner ofc👶

    • @donavantkd
      @donavantkd  8 лет назад

      I really wish I could give you a straight forward answer. However, everyone's body is different. Flexibility also plays a role in the height of your kicks. All I can tell you is that if you practice these three times a week consistantly, you will get results!

    Donavan, Are you doing these daily? or every other day? how many times a week? Also, i've seen your stretching video. Are you stretching daily? twice a day *morning/night* every other day? the same days you're doing your kicks?

    •  7 лет назад

      Donovan born with this flexible muscles, Hes not need much training to developed better. Ask kwonkicker , or Philip Yun (usa tkd national team member)

    • @donavantkd
      @donavantkd  7 лет назад

      I stretch every day! Lately I've been dedicating an hour to it a day, but 30 minutes a day should get you seeing serious results at first! I try to do a morning and night stretch for 30 minutes. I kick every day as well since martial arts is my life and I'm addicted to it. But kicking 3-4 times a week should be fine!

    • @donavantkd
      @donavantkd  7 лет назад

      I'm sorry, I didn't know you were aware of my entire story. I'll have you know that three years ago, I couldn't do any splits. I could barely kick head level. Had no balance, or control...so I don't see how you can just assume that I've been flexible my whole life when you don't even know me xD

    •  7 лет назад

      Ok sorry. :) My experience is,most of the people when they start a martial art, they cannot raise their legs to the height of their stomach.You did it first time to head level right? So you born flexible. But ok, i dont wannna trolling here! Good luck with your channel!

    Dear Donavan,
    Do you use only the weight of your legs to train for your high kicks and balance 🤔 Some martial artists advice to use ankle weights.
    Thank you in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Ramses

    • @donavantkd
      @donavantkd  7 лет назад +1

      Every now and then I use ankle weights but most of the time i just use the weight of my own legs. Sometimes the ankle weights really preventing you from reaching your highest point and i feel it's important that you really push the height so that you're also improving flexibility while improving strength. I feel if you put ankle weights on, your leg won't go up as high and your leg will never be comfortable kicking at your highest. That's just my view on it. I've gotten a lot more results out of just using body weight. thanks for checking out my video and leaving your question! :)

  • @WYJAFAK2
    @WYJAFAK2 7 лет назад

    Hey Donavan , I'm finding it quite hard to do it standing and keeping my body upright. I'm trying as hard as I can to keep my body straight but it naturally goes down to compensate for the lifting leg. Should I continue to do this and it will eventually go away and my body will get stronger to not bend down. Or will it always be bent down if I keep doing this? I make a point t push it up each time I kick.

    • @donavantkd
      @donavantkd  7 лет назад +2

      That just means you lack either the flexibility or the strength in your hips. Your body is allowed to tilt a little, but I would recommend lowering your kicks and keeping your body as up as possible. Also continue working on stretching and you will see improvement over time!

    • @WYJAFAK2

    hi Donovan I have been learning martial arts for many years but I cant kick like u, I think the main problem is my hip flexors. I think if I can't do a good side splits there is no way to lift my leg that high. so what do u suggest? no splits no high kicks.

      @donavantkd  7 лет назад

      I will work towards creating a video for hip flexors. I'll be returning to RUclips as soon as I'm done car shopping. I'll also be doing live stretch and martial arts classes online, as well as online private lessons. I'll be keeping my subscribers posted!

      Donavan Barrett thank you so much for replying my text. I have been doing all sorts of stretching and right now my side splits is abt 160 degree. It seemed extremely pain to go for that extra 20 degree. and you know I dont have the flexibility like those who just sit down and spread their leg apart with that I can only open maybe to 110 degree.

      You should always stretch before and/or after doing exercises like this. The stretching will help you have the flexibility to lift your leg higher and videos like this will give you the strength to be able to lift it up. Hope this helps!

      It depends on how much your training, your age, whether you're male or female, etc. There is no set time. It's important to just enjoy the journey and the progress. If you just focus on the destination, you'll get frustrated and most likely not stick with it. hope that helps!

      Always feel free to pause the video at any time. I try to condense the videos down so that they aren't too long. Take all of these exercises at your own pace
