    He rode a blazing saddle
    He wore a shining star
    His job, to offer battle
To bad men near and far
He conquered fear and he conquered hate
He turned our night into day
    He made his blazing saddle
A torch to light the way
    When outlaws rule the West
    And fear filled the land
A cry went up for a man with guts
To take the West in hand
They needed a man who was brave and true
With justice for all as his aim
Then out of the sun rode a man with a gun
And Bart was his name, yes, Bart was his name
    He rode a blazing saddle
    He wore a shining star
    His job, to offer battle
To bad men near and far

Mel Brooks never told Frankie Laine that the theme song "Blazing Saddles" was for a comedy. Laine thought it was a dramatic western. Brooks was worried that Laine wouldn't sing it with conviction if he knew the truth.

@@johnrunion5357 Mels own words: Brooks also wrote the lyrics to the title song, with music by John Morris, the composer of the film's score.[2] To sing the title song, Brooks advertised in the trade papers for a "Frankie Laine-type" singer; to his surprise, Laine - who had hits with popular versions of Western movie title songs[2] - himself offered his services. "Frankie sang his heart out ... and we didn't have the heart to tell him it was a spoof. He never heard the whip cracks; we put those in later. We got so lucky with his serious interpretation of the song."

When Mel Brooks advertised in the show business trade papers for a "Frankie Laine-type" voice to sing the film's title song, he was hoping for a good imitator. Instead, Frankie Laine himself showed up at Brooks' office two days later, ready to do the job, but nobody told him the movie was a parody. Apparently, Laine did not take offense at the deception considering he reportedly was pleased with the film upon seeing it on release. Taken from IMDB.
