The worst bullshido was a guy who used to train at a dojo I went to, that when things were going south for him when he was grappling, he would fart on cue and people would release him. He was was notorious the moment he walked into class, and he didn't care if women or children were around, he would just blast anyone on him like a skunk whenever he felt threatened.

He explains how the eye/brain detect presence and how to best camouflage yourself. He actually got that part right. Who would've guessed.

I am from Indonesia. I can tell you some facts about the silat one. 1. Silat is our traditional martial art. Objectively speaking, its effectiveness in street fighting is limited, due to the complicated rules to protect the silat athletes during fighting. So it is like karate or tae kwon do. 2. Indonesian people are superstitious. This leads to many con artists to open silat dojo with supernatural things. Those dojos require practicioners to meditate in the middle of a lake in the middle of night, or to wear an amulet, and many things. 3. The only legitimate silat without supernatural things is "Silat Tapak Suci Muhammadiyah". It is based on Islam which forbids practicing such superstitious things.
I'm so proud of my few years i wasted on aikido. Going to the pub after class probably kept me there so long. Mostly idealistic people who train there. Higher educated also. When i asked about the practicallity of it all, the answer was that if you practice long enough, the outcome will be the same of other martial arts. They are pretty stubborn in their conviction. Everybody should train what they like, just don't pretend it has any self defense value. 🙄
Bjj would be just as useless if you remove the other grappling arts it incorporates, as well as the MMA. Aikido is for people who already know how to fight. If you think you are going to Steven Seagull your opponent without knowing how to throw a proper punch you have another thing coming.
I do have to admit i have done Aikido and Judo but i used the Aikido to better understand how the body moves realistically and after 1 year realized that is all it was good for because it has no real defensive applications.
This is why I am so skeptical about teaching martial arts. Though I did TMA, I strongly believe in the realities seen in MMA and train accordingly. This is just ridiculous.
