About the wacom malfunction, it might not work the same on mac, since I've always used Windows, but my wacom tablets have all done similar things too from time to time. What I do on Windows is go to the services panel and find the service called "wacom professional service", I stop it, start it again, and it works like normal from then on. I don't know if MacOS has something similar, but this might be a starting point for figuring it out - it's been doing this since my very first wacom and I got that one before we hit 2010 lol, so it's a recurring problem.
