Yeh mourinho is not adaptable enough... he is done. He will be lucky to get a decent job next... Inter are on the rise and they have a good manager. Where will he go? Madrid hate him, and so does the rest of Spain. Back to Portugal maybe? His brand of football is appalling

They were all excellent in their own ways:
    *Scholes*:
Technically best, superb touch, passing, intelligence, controling team's rhythm... As well as goals especially in earlier part of career. Excellent composure and creativity. Team usually ran through him, most notably when needing goals and breaking teams down. Created the goals when things got tough.
    *Gerrard*:
Best all-round game. Tremendous passing, drive, determination, tenacity, work-rate and consistent goalscoring. Tremendous long distance striker and good close distance finisher. Inspirational leader. One man army in many games. Scored the goals especially in moments when team needed him to.
    *Lampard*:
Good passing both long and short, good intelligence, unparalleled goalscoring menace from midfield. Incredible consistency. Excellent box finishing (with both feet), very good long range shooting. Very strong mentally, big-game player. Longevity in his consistency and supreme levels of fitness and injury resistance. Consistently (made and) got goals and especially, important, tiimely goals.
    Q. WHO'S BEST?
    A. What are you looking for in your player? All three were key to their teams and controlled their team's play, scored and created goals.
All won major honours and played at the highest level for a very, very long time.

    Alonso
“Fans in Spain rate him very highly and I admire him a huge amount. To me Paul is a role model. He is the best midfielder I’ve seen in the last 15 or 20 years.”
    Best
    “The boy can play”
    Charlton
“Paul Scholes is my favourite player. He epitomises the spirit of Manchester United and everything that is good about football.”
    Davids
“Every one of us is just trying to become as good as him. Everyone can learn from Paul Scholes”
    Fabregas
“He is the one whose level I aspire to. He is the best player in the Premier League.”
    Ferdinand
“Paul Scholes, aka Sat Nav, went from a scoring midfielder to a dictator of the game (changed his game while still at top of the game). Genius.”
    Figo
“I’m star-struck when I see Paul Scholes because you never see him. On the pitch you can’t catch him. Off the pitch he disappears.”
    Giggs
“I have played with some great players during my time at United but I would have to put Paul Scholes down as the best.”
    Guardiola
“He is the best midfielder of his generation. I would have loved to have played alongside him.”
    Henry
“I can’t understand why Scholes has never won the player of the year award. He should have won it long ago. Maybe it’s because he doesn’t seek the limelight like some of the other ‘stars’.”
    Law
“He’s the best all-round. A joy to watch.”
    Lippi
“Paul Scholes would have been one of my first choices for putting together a great team.”
    Maradonna
    “His technique is unique.”
    Mourinho
“Why isn’t he playing for England? It is crazy. Only in England. Scholes is a great, great player. So experienced and still, for me, one of the best in the world in midfield. Manchester United are lucky to have him.”
    Nasri
“Sad to hear Paul Scholes is retiring, great player, world class player, the English Zizou.”
    Pallister
“When you talk about the greats of Manchester United, he’s up there with Georgie Best, Bryan Robson, Ryan Giggs and Bobby Charlton just purely for the amount of medals that he’s won, he’s going to be greatly missed by Manchester United.”
    Pele
“If he was playing with me, I would score so many more.”
    Ronaldinho
“I want to pass like him. Who taught him how to do that?”
    Ronaldo
“Scholes is the best i’ve played with and he helped me a lot when I was young. He’s amazing.”
    Rooney
“The best player I’ve played with or against.”
    Schevchenko
“They have two of the world’s best young players in Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, but the player who most impresses me is Paul Scholes. He is United’s most important player, he makes most things happen on the field.”
    Shearer
“If you ask footballers to pick out the player they most admire, so many of them will pick Paul Scholes.”
    Xavi
“In the last 15 to 20 years the best central midfielder that I have seen - the most complete - is Scholes. I have spoken with Xabi Alonso about this many times. Scholes is a spectacular player who has everything. He can play the final pass, he can score, he is strong, he never gets knocked off the ball and he doesn’t give possession away. If he had been Spanish then maybe he would have been valued more.”
    Zidane
“My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder. You rarely come across the complete footballer, but Scholes is as close to it as you can get.’”

When they ask Terry about Chelsea not giving young players enough chances I thought of something. Terry will never be as good a manager as Zidane. While Terry only sees value in the players that contribute the most, and the rest become disposable, Zidane knows that every player can make a contribution to the team, no matter who plays the most (and he has the personality and credibility to deal with the egos). That's why Madrid under Zidane always has kind of a "B team" full of the younger players that always performs really well, because they know they have a chance to prove themselves (like Fede Valverde this season, for example); and, in the end, those "B players" end up contributing in important moments, like Asensio in the CL final against Juve.

    • @anthonymcintyre2242
      @anthonymcintyre2242 7 лет назад +19

You are very wrong about Scholes being deployed further back. Do you not remember Scholes, the attacking midfielder of the nineties and early noughties? He was still playing as a false nine on occasion when Van Nisterlooy was there. The thing that gets me is, Scholes in Europe, did not control games. He was dropped for so many big games by Ferguson and despite his awesome ability, he did not really have the huge impact on certain matches that Gerrard and lampard had. Man Utd fans can tell people to shut up all they want about the tackling but he was horrendous on so many occasions, although I miss him and Keane bullying midfields with their bullish defensive nous while still playing the other side of the game in such a elegant manner.
Now I have stated the issues I have with Scholes, but I still see him as the one of if not the best English midfielder of a generation. After debating the Scholes/Lampard/Gerrard thing for nearly a decade, I've decided that there really is so little between them when you look at how they affected a game at the very top level.
In the twilight years of there careers, Scholes wins hands down because of his style.
At the edge of he box probably the most exciting players in premier league history as a collective. This has been said so many times - Had England the right manager at the time, I think England win a World Cup or a European championship.

He was a brilliant captain for Chelsea, possibly their grestest ever - right up there with Tony Adams at Arsenal - I'm a City fan too but I hope one day JT becomes a good PL manager, it would be great to see hm pacing up and down the touchline Mourinho-esque and bawling someone out.

As much as I hate to say it, so could the other two. They scored important goals at important times, as did Scholes, but not as often. I wouldn't pick one of them. They all had something special and were all as important to their respective clubs as each other.

He was the best player in his position in 8 years, that's crazy. Scholes never did. Lampard played in 10,8,6 roles like Gerrard, still got the most goals for a midfield and doing what scholes did. If he was in the team now under klopp in his prime we'd have won the finals we were in and probably the league this year. Mainly because of the leadership he brings as opposed to his quality. The previous finals we got to we lost mainly because of lack of experience in the big occasion and mentality. The current liverpool squad is more equipped right now mentality wise and thats as important as quality.

"He can play the final pass, he can score, he is strong, he never gets knocked off the ball and he doesn’t give possession away. If he had been Spanish then maybe he would have been valued More."
Zidane "My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder. Scholes is undoubtedly the greatest midfielder of his generation."
Pirlo "The only great English midfielder in my career was Paul Scholes. He has elegance in him. Others were pretenders."

I've never seen Scholes have a bad game, even if he got sent off he had a good game. I think the neutral supporters are the better judge on this one and most people pick Scholes. People will talk about who scored more goals but Scholes could score goals too. The difference is Lampard and Gerrard didn't have the ability Scholes had when it came to controlling a game, first touch, making the right pass, he could do everything even headers. Iniesta even named his son after Paul Scholes. Xavi even said he was the best midfielder of his generation. They literally modeled their games on him and they were part of arguably the best footballing side of their generation so that alone speaks volumes. Only true footballing fans pick Scholes. People who enjoy the heart, workrate, kick and rush of the game will pick Gerrard. If you appreciate the hard worker and goalscoring midfielder then you pick Lampard. It's all preference but the top top level neutral footballers always pick Scholes so that settles it all.

    • @nazmulfahad3044

But it's a fact that most neutral will pick either Gerrard or lampard.

When Shearer Wright and another retired PL player had to make their PL all time xi. They didn't even give Scholes a mention. They instantly went to Gerrard, Lampard, Viera, and Kean. All of those (perhaps not Wright but still) played all three way more then Xavi and Iniesta did.
If you wanna make the argument that Scholes is better because other players think so. You'd have to ignore that other players with more experience on them preferred Lampard and Gerrard.

John Terry really broke down the loanee system well, it is imperative that a potential has experience to REALISE that potential. You can't expect a young baller to be great from the start unless you're a prodigy like Messi.. I agree with JT

If you’re talking the best player it’s Gerrard, Lampard then Scholes... and if you’re talking best career, then it’s Scholes, Lampard Gerrard.
If people are putting Gerrard in that category of players and he’s never won the title it just goes to show the quality of player he is, the fact that he was consistently a leader and a fantastic footballer in a bunch of bang-average Liverpool sides. Scholes and Lampard are incredible players but had so many legendary and world class players surrounding them, you imagine if Gerrard was at United or Chelsea for about 5-6 years of his career, he’d have about 3 premier league medals to his name.

Scholes all day long. Different types of midfield players, though, so difficult to choose. Scholesy had Keano with him most of the time which was the perfect partnership for me 👌

If any of you can't see that Gerrard was the best then you need to lay off the sniff. Greatest box-box midfielder ever had more pace, fitness and better defensive qualities than scholes. Only English player to score in every final at club level and had a mediocre team that he carried singlehandedly for over 10 years which the other two wouldn't have been able to do. Also scored the most goals against Man Utd than any ever player. I'm not even a utd fan but I can see why Utd fans hate him so much it's called jealousy.

If Scholes played with that mediocre team, Liverpool would have won the PL. Jealous that Scholes won more trophies that Gerrard? Gerrard carried the team, while Scholes assisted the team. He could set up goals for all kinds of strikers, young, old, academy or a star. He could do all this, and could also score in a banger if need be. Gerrard was good but Scholes was better...

I love hear terry speaking. He is the best footballer speaker by far. I have listened many player talking like keane, lamps, gerrad, schooles, carra, neville , etc but nobody like terry. Terry is a truly sigma man. He and maldini are My favorite defender of all time

Gerrard for sure. Being a captain and such a great leader while being such a complete player carrying Liverpool so hard even with mediocre players all around him, while the other 2 weren't captains and didn't take as much responsibility, and both had world class players around them.

Going back on that discussion Carra brought about Chelsea managing young talents, I'm looking at what Tuchel is doing now at Chelsea with the young players and it gives me great satisfaction because I know Chelsea won't keep losing players that can be influential in the next 3-5 years.
