Every time I come back from Japan, I miss the toilets. Good on you! And Peterson is an amazing person. Very cool.
Regarding leg raises-I am a student of bodybuilding and it seems we are always learning.
However, there are a few rules I follow that work-do 3 sets if they are not to failure, which means 70% roughly. Those combination of 3 sets will at the end cause tear with the benefit of extra blood driven into the muscle, so I think. Hence why certain athletes like Cutler, Heath and Lunsford have bubbly muscles but I feel there is a component missing (The Dorian Effect of rough skin), which you have because you have been training to failure for a long time (so I think) but with so many sets and failure=extreme over training, hence injuries. However, with going to failure I think 1 set is enough and at that point, you can throw in a rest pause if your are not confident or a drop set (not always necessary). So with the leg raises if you max out your first set, forget about it, its over.
The next few sets after the first set of failure if you notice are usually garbage and there is a message there.
I know this is anecdotal but every time I follow this pattern, I swear I start losing muscle tissue and very noticeable. All the best to you Chris, this rule will never let you down, it is quality over quantity.

@Chris Bumstead-correction to split squats-hello CHris, not sure if the split squats had some therapy purpose but for muscle building which I am mostly about, I will say sit under a smith, keep your working foot closer into the bar and not away, find a good position for your back angle (it may not be 90 degrees) where you can activate the entire glute and of course, the quads. Non working foot should be entirely rested with heels upside down. this way, only the working quad will work with little to no assistance from the other leg. Very carefully controlled, you are heavy and will be placing a lot of weigh on 1 quad. Build it up very slowly. I always love dropping tips, hope it works. i do all this stuff and it is not guess work. I also feel it is important not to lean to into the working quad as it strangles the knee cap and that is a potential for injury, also not sure why there is a plate on the floor, in theory, it should increase range of motion but it drastically limits range of motion when you go down. Feet are best on the floor and with practice, you can go slightly past parallel as you get stronger in the movement and rely less on the other foot. I have quad inbalances so this is my go to which has easily replaced normal squats
almost guarantee those split squats are programmed as a range of motion/gentle stabilizing motion, knowing his knee pain ATG split squats are made to help decrease pain in the knee and work a healthy range of motion for it, and a foot elevation is a regression for the movement to allow less forward knee travel, it is in theory less range of motion and actually less range of motion, if he elevated the rear leg it would be more range of motion, i doubt he’s using those for muscle growth at this point in his prep
