Here in Norway new consoles has always been sold out at launch. Every store is now fully stocked with PS5 Pros. If Sony is happy with sales they didn’t expect to sell to many.
Ps4 pro sold 30k less than ps5 pro did in jp first week. Your comment is made from ignorance. Pro models are NEVER the bulk of sales like the base model. Ps4 pro sold only 15%-20% out of the total of base ps4 users. Ps5 pro is going to be the same way but seems to be on track to out preform ps4 pro. If you'll give criticism do it logically by talking about the inconvenience of performance on pro enhancements with different games. Some being insanely great upgrades and others no real change..

All I did was traded in my OG Ps5 and used the money I got from that towards the Pro. It wasn't that bad of a hit when I think about how much time I spent with the old one.
I literally chose this morning to buy a standard PS for my son even though I ALWAYS buy the future proof option. In Austrlia, I paid $610 for standard PS5 (Black Friday Costco) Vs no discount anywhere of Pro 1199. Even for me, spending $590 (~50% more) was dumb and unjustifyable even for me. So I think PS is lying about their optimism on Pro, given I would be in the top 5% of people willing to overpay for the best.
@@gothpunkboy89 I bought the Pro and it really depends on a game. Some games play exactly as base PS5, some games are even locked to PS4 versions.. Only new games will take advantage of Pro, and there's no guarantee how much effort the devs will spend on it to actually utilise the full Pro power.
@gothpunkboy89 The Xbox Series X is more capable than the standard PS5, but we don't see that realized in most third-party games. The explanation I hear is that there aren't as many units, so devs don't take the time. Do you believe Sony will sell more PS5 Pro's than Series X's to make it worthwhile for the devs to unlock the full potential of the hardware? Because, now they have to make a game for 4 different SKU's with the same total budget.
@@ckling217 Series X is better then the PS5 but not by a great deal. The actual power difference is minimal. And arguably it isn't all that well designed given Microsoft was all about that machine learning capabilities of the Series console and not even first party titles have used it.
The „consoles need to cost 500bucks“ argument is out of date. Inflation alone would dictate 600, but what i want is a TRUE high end console: ease of use of console, but high end perf, like double current consoles for instance (4k120 defaults, 240on shooters, 4k60 with pathtracing RTX…) so basically a 2000dollar console with specs around amds current highest end hardware…that would sell like crazy, because it would finally actually compete with pc..

As a PS4 Professional owner and a PS5 owner I don’t see myself ever buying a Professional 5. Not at $960 CDN. So while I’m relieved that Sony is happy, I’m part of the 20% of Pro 4 owners who won’t be upgrading.
To beat the dead horse some more my only real issue was the lack of the included disc drive otherwise the 2tb hard-drive and improved graphical power were worth the 200$ difference.
if they wanted a disk drive they would have reduced the amount of storage but since almost 80% of console owners buy digital they made the decision to go for storage and no drive
Not worth it 4 years later. Components get better and cheaper over time. That's why PS 4 Pro was same price as PS 4 launch price. Sony simply saw how much people were willing to pay scalpers for PS 5's and are cutting out the middleman.

Inflation is real. Prices in 2020 are vastly different than prices in 2024. Why is this never discussed? Toss in some currency exchange rates, and it becomes obvious why the console is priced where it's at.
Exactly, which also means that the average person has significantly less buying power seeing as our wages have not scaled linearly with the rate of inflation. Buy it if you want, I don’t think it’s a bad product at all, but don’t act like inflation makes it exceptional value all of a sudden. Not to mention the price difference in the UK and EU compared to US, exchange rate doesn’t do so good there does it?

Sorry if this has already been mentioned in the comments or in any videos with regards to the out of stock optical drive. Is it not worth mentioning that if you were a PS5 slim owner you could take the optical drive from that and put it on your PS5 Pro? This is what I have done and then sold my slim model as a Digital version to recoup some of the cost of the Pro. Great work as you always do guys. 😊

Currently I live in a Greek island, Chios. We have 4-5 small stores for videogames and consoles here. Every one of them has at least 4-5 PS5 Pro consoles displayed on the store window. I’ve never seen this for quite some time. Would expect these to be sold instantly. For reference you couldn’t find a PS5 in stores for almost a year here in the island since the launch of the console.

I think the funniest thing about the PS5 Pro is how upset people are about not being able to buy something that was never meant for them in the first place. And I’m not all too thrilled about the price tag either, but it’s been made clear on several occasions that this is specifically targeting people that want their games to look, feel and play the best they’ve ever been on a PlayStation console with little to no compromise as a result. No one is forcing anyone to buy this. The slim does still exist and anyone wanting a ps5 can always get that instead. Besides, I’m certain most of you have phones, tablets, laptops, smart watches, clothing, etc. that cost about the same if not more than this thing. So what are we really talking about here? 😂

Many people were expecting Pro to enter PS5 generation, cause they couldn't buy PS5 for at least first 2 years, and didn't want to buy old HW full price. There people were expecting PS5 Pro to be like PS4 Pro - more power for the same price. Other people were waiting for PS5 Pro to replace a gaming PC for them, cause GPUs are too expensive. All these people were planning for months in advance to buy a PS5 Pro for 500$, not 800 euro. Maybe when it arrived they chose to buy it anyway, not to stay frustrated. But I guarantee that all these people will not be waiting for PS6 Pro, and it will sell much worse, if the same situation repeats. Sony has almost no good exclusives now, and they mostly all come to PC later. Instead of an overpriced console one can as well buy a gaming PC.

I have my Pro for couple of days. I upgraded from the slim. Why ? I just bought the PS5 just yet and I thought to myself: I am already late to the party, so go with the pro. I have played Hogwarts legacy on the slim for around 30 hours and it was absolute fine. Now with the pro I have major graphic bugs. In some scenes the room I am standing with the Charakter is glowing pure white with shiny blue and red artifacts. Also the reflection on the surface of the lakes are flimmering and not accurate when it was fine with the PS5 Slim. I am disappointed. It’s not that I have a faulty PlayStation because the first time I was seeing those issues, I went to Media Markt the next day and got my pro replaced with a brand new console. Still the same issues…
I saw the writing on the wall when it came to the insignificant CPU upgrades on the Pro. I felt the same way towards the GPU but I didn't expect it to be this bad in practice. I guess this is what happens when you have diminishing returns and the PS4 Pro did not offer very advanced tech like RT. Games are just too advanced for even the Pro model to catch up on but as usual, it's a console but for 700 dollars? It's not a good look and it's not a good purchase. Maybe for one or two games (literally) but overall, we're getting diminishing returns and that's just not good enough.
If my PS5 dies I'll get a Pro to replace it, but if my PS5 last till a PS6 launch I'll stick with it. I got my PS5 back in 2020, use it a lot, but apart from a new controller due to wear i've got no issues. I see some people trading in their PS5 thinking it's a good deal but your trading in something that works well for something that works 10% better and paying around $400 for that 10%....That's not a great deal to me.

More a sign that there's more margin for the retailers so they have room to do it if they wish. That discount isn't cutting into Sony's profit until Sony themselves create a sale (which they are currently having on the normal PS5).

$700 back then was insane tho. What was the Xbox 360 $300-400? Ps2 and ps1 around $300. Even ps4 was $400 going down to $200 with the ps4 pro coming in at $400.

You're forgetting that the initial sales of the PS5 Pro are only the initial sales of the PS5 Pro, not sales over the course of a year or two years to properly gauge how the market as a whole reacts. And really, even the initial sales of the PS5 Pro aren't that great, considering that scalpers are having trouble selling their stock at higher prices. I expect PS5 Pro sales to drop off a cliff after the holiday. And I don't expect the PS6 to be $699, not if Sony wants to actually sell the thing in large numbers. It'll be no more than $499. Although, the PS6 will likely be no more powerful than the PS5 if Sony decides to make it a hybrid console, like the Switch, because Nintendo is destroying Sony in Japan right now, and a big part of the reason for that is because of the Switch's size and portability.

Sony is just doing damage control. It is far from fine. You can literally walk into most GameStops, BestBuy, Target & several other stores here in NYC & pick one up. The 30th anniversary variants are the only ones selling out. If they were smart, they would pump more of those out so they can continue to pad their sales numbers of the console.
@@LatinLegacyNY So was the PS5 your first console? Because consoles selling out wasn't really all that common for PS1, 2,3 and 4. Out side of maybe specific cities. Usually it was down to retailers underestimating how much it would sell and needing to order more.
@@gothpunkboy89 The Atari 2600 was my first console & no, consoles normally sold out of their first two to three waves before supply would catch up to demand. You'll have those extreme cases, like the PS1 & Wii for example, where restocks would sell out immediately for an extensive amount of time. With that said, there are several occasions when initial launches were extremely limited in supply. The NES is a good example of this. Where Nintendo is on record in saying that they did not expect such a high demand for it when it launched.

With that said, the last major console to struggle out of the gate similar to what the PS5 Pro is experiencing is the Sega Saturn. Even the dreaded Wii U sold out when it launched. In my country digital slim price is 420 euros vs 990 for pro, 570 euros difference. And it’s official prices with all the taxes. I bought original disc version before slim came out for like 500 with GOW R bundle, it was last revision of the original version and it works absolutely fine. I have checked the games I am playing and there is no difference with pro, at least yet. So no point for me to buy it, at least for now for this price and current state of enhanced games list. I also had few discs with games you can’t buy anymore in digital store so it is like + 130 euros for disc drive.
I understand times are different, but when the PS4 Pro came out it replaced the regular PS4 as it's price which I believe it was $499 at the time and the PS4 slim was at $399. Not only the PS5 slim increased in price compare to the original model, but the PS5 Pro is even more expensive. For me, that did impacted my decision to upgrade my original PS5 to the Pro. Selling my PS5 to upgrade meant to spend basically twice the money for not twice the performance. I'll wait till PS6. I also have a gaming PC, so I don't feel the need or FOMO of upgrading. If I want to play a game with better resolution, fps or better performance than what my PS5 can offer, I can play it on PC.
Back in the day you'd sell the slim for 250-300 and get the ps4 pro for 500 which in practice offers more or less the same improvements as the ps5 pro. Except games with ps4 quality level weren't running at 60 fps
The PS4 Pro was actually $100 USD less, coming in at $399 and the Slim was $299, making the value proposition of a PS5 Pro even worse in comparison. That $399 PS4 Pro today would retail for $526 plus it included a disc drive! I understand that PS5 Pro includes 2TB of SSD storage, which is definitely more expensive than the cheap 5400RPM laptop hard drive the PS4 Pro was saddled with, but to charge almost double ($700 + $80 disc drive) to match what you got in 2016 is outrageous.
Well no-one I know is buying one. Usually that's the complete opposite so .. Loads bought a PS4Pro in comparison. The disc drive being an extra expense put everybody off completely. If there were all these games already pushing the ps5 it wouldn't be so bad. But there's hardly any games going to be worth buying it for marginal gains in the odd title. Meh. There's obvs going to be a few with more money than sense.

Why are people not talking about UPGRADING vs just buying it. I’m upgrading my ps5 to a pro, and my net price is ~$500 AU vs $1200 AU I don’t think it’s worth the thousand price point but an upgrade for 500 bucks I think is worth it. Console prices generally have been ridiculous for the past few generations at this point as far as I'm concerned. That said, the price point of the Pro isn't even the biggest reason I'm not planning on getting it. The fact that the upgrades for PS5 Pro games are digital only, not available on-disc, is all the reason I need to avoid it. It's the same reason I don't like smart delivery on the Series X. If I'm buying the brand new hardware, I expect the software I'm buying specifically for it will actually utilize that hardware.
Selling out of the disc drive and not the machine tells you exactly what you need to know about how consumers feel about physical media vs buying online. If pricing on the online store was more akin to steam with heavy discounts then we'd see a different story.

They will eventually be forced imo. I've been thinking about this (and the GPU market) lately and I think I realized something: forever now, hardware developments have been essentially a spectrum. You had advancement and investment all along it. But right now, the is a very distinct diverging towards the extremes. On one end you have Nvidia hedging forward towards only the highest end desktop and enterprise stuff. While AMD, ARM and many others are investing towards the bottom end in advancing mobile for the markets who cannot be afforded to be served on the high end. ...the middle - where consoles and most GPU sales have always existed - is drying out. Companies no longer can afford to invest there, nor seem interested. And as a result we are seeing less and less compelling tech options, advancements consumer offerings there. Instead you have companies (and I suspect Nintendo, Sony and Xbox will follow) seeing a segmented market, where you serve the mass with mobile augmented with cloud, streaming, AI or whatever .. and a halo market who support halo products. The rush now is to advance the mobile experience to that which consumers traditionally expect from mid-tier hardware offerings. In this, the companies will be forced if they go with AMD or ARM to stay within the confines of the technology they have fabricated and developed (or mobile), or venture with Nvidia or their own inhouse solutions... Solutions, I imagine will result in those halo products I described. And that is how we end up in a future, where to satisfy the niche crowd of hardcore halo consumers - while still surviving off the mass market - we end up at two skews: mobile and desktop. I suspect Nintendo's Switch, like Steam Deck too - are setting a trend of mobile living room hardware that can be docked to streamed to a TV or Monitor.
Doubtful since the Pro is a premium version that's available at the same time as the normal PS5, so it doesn't affect the base of the platform and therefor game sales. If they made the next base console that expensive then there would be much less people to sell games to, so that would not make good business sense.

It’s expensive but worth it, bought box series for 600€ and barely used it and it’s impossible to sell for half of the price, hope I can get 250€ for it, but very few buyers on the second hand market for Xsx.
@@joefield5217 Getting rid of physical media might be a help in the EU. The EU has done a lot of things like cracking down on Apple's App Store for being a monopoly on a big platform. Without physical media on the Playstation they are in the same boat and may be forced to open up to other digital stores, making it more like the PC market (where physical media has been dead for a long time).
I bought my pro just couple of days ago. Like you said: no disk drives available. I bought my pro at Media Markt (Germany) and they told me, they expect some drive units around march‘25.
Just get a base PS5. the pro is bs. All the things that it promises are better on PC anyways. At the end of the day they're both plastic boxes one slightly faster than the other.

Yeah, because of a few factors. 1 is there's enough rich ppl who don't care. They're the ones who already have a PS5 and are basically spending $1300 within 4 years for their PS5 consoles alone. Crazy. But also stock wasn't super high. Doesn't mean it's good value, because it's not. PS4 Pro cost the same as PS4 when they were each new. Absolutely crazy that PS5 is now MORE expensive in most places after 4 years instead of cheaper and the PS5 Pro is 60% more expensive (with disc) than the PS5 (with disc)
It really is a luxury product. The price is really insane. I could not afford to buy one. And it get's my scared. It is just an upgrade of a current console. With a next gen console the price will be even more extreme. I think I will skip new consoles because I do not have the economy to buy it if the cost will be more than the PS5 Pro. It is sad. I will go back to play retro consoles😄😭
I game primarily on a high-end PC and I made the shift to all digital gaming years ago. I do own a launch PS5 with a disc drive and I have used it a total of 2 times and that was to watch some old blue ray movies I have. With that being said, it's nice to have the option. As it's been said before, it's outrageous that for $700 you don't get a console with a disc drive. But as long as us consumers keep spending our hard-earned money on these overpriced products, companies like Sony will continue to take advantage of us. Sony does not care about its "hardcore" users that have helped PS get to where it's at today.

I sent mine back to Sony for a full refund after a week of playing different games. Was nice to get 700 back! Yes, the games looked a little better, but not 700 better. Will pick it up later when its 600 bundled with a disc drive. Absolute pisstake the current disc drive availability situation. Sony is not listening to the very people that got it to its 30th anniversary.

He is saying it's not worth $700 to him. Further more, it's NOT $200 better. Remember that PS5 Base/Slim got a $50-$100 Price hike years into release depending on region. The PS5 was much cheaper, so it's really a $300 difference. ALSO remember that the $700, is MINUS the disc drive which was included in the $500 PS5 your comparing it too. So increase that difference for what your getting versus PS5 Base at launch. ALSO realize that in many places (like the US) that's $700 PLUS Federal sales tax, internet sales tax (as he bought his from Sony), electronic tax (depending on State), shipping & insurance (which you pay for when buying from Sony)... Meaning he probably paid closer to $750-$770 most likely, and more if he got the drive or stand... which where included with the base PS5 when it launched for $450.

Imagine buying PS6 (digital) $999.99 MSRP after tarrifs only to play GTA VI rendering at 800p native textures to achieve 60fps to be upscaled into 4k. At that point just buy PC IMO or streaming cloud gaming subscriptions eventually.

@@Superdimensional things are made overseas because it is cheaper. production in america is both more expensive and labor is more costly. not too mention components will still need to be shipped in. if everything was done in the US, the price will still be higher due to the higher cost of production here. also if you were to make things in the US, you need to build the factories and enable the production before implementing tariffs. do you see how it’s a lose lose regardless?
Of course it sold well initially. Sales are a combination of the 30th Anniversary sell-out, scalpers and the small number of people dumb enough to pay the high price. The long-term sales of the Pro at these prices will not be sustained. Also, the CEO of Playstation isn't going to tell the truth. He has the highest amount of interest in keeping the price high for the PS6. Oliemack is right. Short term is decent sales. Long term, not-so-much.

Disc drive same price as 3 games? Lol on a black friday sale not even, last game I bought was diablo 4 digitally for $80 same price is the hard drive, it was a drunk moment for me and my girl I never buy digital unless it's for oennyd to the dollar I always rather get physical to be able to resale.
I don't doubt it will sell....there are plenty of suckers in the world. I just think it's a rip off. Plenty of videos on this console show the boost is not really worth the price increase, especially without the disc drive. I hope in the future, developers will be able to make use of the hardware upgrades to really bring the best out of the system. The value just isn't there right now.
Upscaling is terrible, we are seeing more and more negative reviews on the image quality, flickering textures, etc. If this is the future, no PlayStation for me beyond the 5. I'll start buying exclusively in the PC, which I already own, and that's it. Raw power = full resolution.
If there wasn't a disk drive option I wouldn't have bought the Pro. Great console(with a disk drive) and hasn't disappointed. If PS6 is diskless and no option for a drive I'm done with Playstation even if it's my preferred console and going all in on Switch 2. I'm fine with that. I don't buy digital games.
They have way more data about the market and pricing their own product than anyone whining ever will, so they have 0 reason to listen to you to begin with.
@steel5897 and after all that research, the smartest move that they made was porting their big name IPs to PC. The pricing for consoles was supposed to remain behind PC by a wide margin so people didn't have to think twice on an impulse buy. The ps5 pro model is going to put PS6 in the realm of unaffordable pricing for a large majority of their own player base, when the could've skipped mid gen and priced the PS6 at $600.
I’m happy with the PS5 Pro. I can see why the disc drive was left out. Having kept my base PS5 I like the fact I can move to another room in the house, and don’t have to worry about grabbing the disc/game from the other room all the time to continue my game. I did buy the disc drive due to buying alot of AAA games on physical a lot of times, but playing COD, Wukong and etc too I would’ve been ok without it 🤷🏾♂️. It’s a great upgrade considering the 2TB and other specs

Here in Norway new consoles has always been sold out at launch. Every store is now fully stocked with PS5 Pros. If Sony is happy with sales they didn’t expect to sell to many.

I literally chose this morning to buy a standard PS for my son even though I ALWAYS buy the future proof option. In Austrlia, I paid $610 for standard PS5 (Black Friday Costco) Vs no discount anywhere of Pro 1199. Even for me, spending $590 (~50% more) was dumb and unjustifyable even for me. So I think PS is lying about their optimism on Pro, given I would be in the top 5% of people willing to overpay for the best.
But they aren't lying. This is what the console is capable of. It is up to the developers to bring out the hardware capabilities.

@@gothpunkboy89 I bought the Pro and it really depends on a game. Some games play exactly as base PS5, some games are even locked to PS4 versions.. Only new games will take advantage of Pro, and there's no guarantee how much effort the devs will spend on it to actually utilise the full Pro power.

The explanation I hear is that there aren't as many units, so devs don't take the time. Because, now they have to make a game for 4 different SKU's with the same total budget.
@@ckling217 Series X is better then the PS5 but not by a great deal. The actual power difference is minimal. And arguably it isn't all that well designed given Microsoft was all about that machine learning capabilities of the Series console and not even first party titles have used it.

The „consoles need to cost 500bucks“ argument is out of date. Inflation alone would dictate 600, but what i want is a TRUE high end console: ease of use of console, but high end perf, like double current consoles for instance (4k120 defaults, 240on shooters, 4k60 with pathtracing RTX…) so basically a 2000dollar console with specs around amds current highest end hardware…that would sell like crazy, because it would finally actually compete with pc..

As a PS4 Professional owner and a PS5 owner I don’t see myself ever buying a Professional 5. Not at $960 CDN.

To beat the dead horse some more my only real issue was the lack of the included disc drive otherwise the 2tb hard-drive and improved graphical power were worth the 200$ difference.

Not worth it 4 years later. Components get better and cheaper over time. That's why PS 4 Pro was same price as PS 4 launch price. Sony simply saw how much people were willing to pay scalpers for PS 5's and are cutting out the middleman.

@@acf8888The PS4 pros GPU wasn't a huge upgrade over the PS4, the ps5 pros GPU is a huge upgrade over the ps5, then the 2tb SSD is expensive as well so all in all the $700 price point makes so much sense especially given the fact that pssr is the only AMD ai upscaled technology to be released so far, fsr 4 has not been released yet.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned in the comments or in any videos with regards to the out of stock optical drive. Is it not worth mentioning that if you were a PS5 slim owner you could take the optical drive from that and put it on your PS5 Pro? This is what I have done and then sold my slim model as a Digital version to recoup some of the cost of the Pro. Great work as you always do guys. 😊

Currently I live in a Greek island, Chios. We have 4-5 small stores for videogames and consoles here. Every one of them has at least 4-5 PS5 Pro consoles displayed on the store window. I’ve never seen this for quite some time. Would expect these to be sold instantly. For reference you couldn’t find a PS5 in stores for almost a year here in the island since the launch of the console.

I think the funniest thing about the PS5 Pro is how upset people are about not being able to buy something that was never meant for them in the first place. And I’m not all too thrilled about the price tag either, but it’s been made clear on several occasions that this is specifically targeting people that want their games to look, feel and play the best they’ve ever been on a PlayStation console with little to no compromise as a result. No one is forcing anyone to buy this. The slim does still exist and anyone wanting a ps5 can always get that instead. Besides, I’m certain most of you have phones, tablets, laptops, smart watches, clothing, etc. that cost about the same if not more than this thing. So what are we really talking about here? 😂

Many people were expecting Pro to enter PS5 generation, cause they couldn't buy PS5 for at least first 2 years, and didn't want to buy old HW full price. There people were expecting PS5 Pro to be like PS4 Pro - more power for the same price.
Other people were waiting for PS5 Pro to replace a gaming PC for them, cause GPUs are too expensive.
All these people were planning for months in advance to buy a PS5 Pro for 500$, not 800 euro. Maybe when it arrived they chose to buy it anyway, not to stay frustrated.
But I guarantee that all these people will not be waiting for PS6 Pro, and it will sell much worse, if the same situation repeats.
Sony has almost no good exclusives now, and they mostly all come to PC later. Instead of an overpriced console one can as well buy a gaming PC.

I have my Pro for couple of days. I upgraded from the slim. Why ? I just bought the PS5 just yet and I thought to myself: I am already late to the party, so go with the pro. I have played Hogwarts legacy on the slim for around 30 hours and it was absolute fine. Now with the pro I have major graphic bugs. In some scenes the room I am standing with the Charakter is glowing pure white with shiny blue and red artifacts. Also the reflection on the surface of the lakes are flimmering and not accurate when it was fine with the PS5 Slim. I am disappointed.
It’s not that I have a faulty PlayStation because the first time I was seeing those issues, I went to Media Markt the next day and got my pro replaced with a brand new console. Still the same issues…
I saw the writing on the wall when it came to the insignificant CPU upgrades on the Pro. I felt the same way towards the GPU but I didn't expect it to be this bad in practice. I guess this is what happens when you have diminishing returns and the PS4 Pro did not offer very advanced tech like RT. Games are just too advanced for even the Pro model to catch up on but as usual, it's a console but for 700 dollars? It's not a good look and it's not a good purchase. Maybe for one or two games (literally) but overall, we're getting diminishing returns and that's just not good enough.

If my PS5 dies I'll get a Pro to replace it, but if my PS5 last till a PS6 launch I'll stick with it. I got my PS5 back in 2020, use it a lot, but apart from a new controller due to wear i've got no issues.
I see some people trading in their PS5 thinking it's a good deal but your trading in something that works well for something that works 10% better and paying around $400 for that 10%....That's not a great deal to me.

The ps5 pro is basically a tatic Sony uses to gauge how the market reacts and how far they can push the next gen console price point. Remember PS3 backslash ? I would not be surprised if the PS6 is $699
You're forgetting that the initial sales of the PS5 Pro are only the initial sales of the PS5 Pro, not sales over the course of a year or two years to properly gauge how the market as a whole reacts. And really, even the initial sales of the PS5 Pro aren't that great, considering that scalpers are having trouble selling their stock at higher prices.
I expect PS5 Pro sales to drop off a cliff after the holiday. And I don't expect the PS6 to be $699, not if Sony wants to actually sell the thing in large numbers. It'll be no more than $499. Although, the PS6 will likely be no more powerful than the PS5 if Sony decides to make it a hybrid console, like the Switch, because Nintendo is destroying Sony in Japan right now, and a big part of the reason for that is because of the Switch's size and portability.

Sony is just doing damage control. It is far from fine. You can literally walk into most GameStops, BestBuy, Target & several other stores here in NYC & pick one up. The 30th anniversary variants are the only ones selling out. If they were smart, they would pump more of those out so they can continue to pad their sales numbers of the console.

Usually it was down to retailers underestimating how much it would sell and needing to order more.

You'll have those extreme cases, like the PS1 & Wii for example, where restocks would sell out immediately for an extensive amount of time. With that said, there are several occasions when initial launches were extremely limited in supply. The NES is a good example of this. Where Nintendo is on record in saying that they did not expect such a high demand for it when it launched.

With that said, the last major console to struggle out of the gate similar to what the PS5 Pro is experiencing is the Sega Saturn. Even the dreaded Wii U sold out when it launched. The PS3 was a little rocky due to its price at the time but that sold out as well.
In my country digital slim price is 420 euros vs 990 for pro, 570 euros difference. And it’s official prices with all the taxes. I bought original disc version before slim came out for like 500 with GOW R bundle, it was last revision of the original version and it works absolutely fine. I have checked the games I am playing and there is no difference with pro, at least yet. So no point for me to buy it, at least for now for this price and current state of enhanced games list. I also had few discs with games you can’t buy anymore in digital store so it is like + 130 euros for disc drive.
I understand times are different, but when the PS4 Pro came out it replaced the regular PS4 as it's price which I believe it was $499 at the time and the PS4 slim was at $399. Not only the PS5 slim increased in price compare to the original model, but the PS5 Pro is even more expensive. For me, that did impacted my decision to upgrade my original PS5 to the Pro. Selling my PS5 to upgrade meant to spend basically twice the money for not twice the performance. I'll wait till PS6. I also have a gaming PC, so I don't feel the need or FOMO of upgrading. If I want to play a game with better resolution, fps or better performance than what my PS5 can offer, I can play it on PC.

Back in the day you'd sell the slim for 250-300 and get the ps4 pro for 500 which in practice offers more or less the same improvements as the ps5 pro. Except games with ps4 quality level weren't running at 60 fps
The PS4 Pro was actually $100 USD less, coming in at $399 and the Slim was $299, making the value proposition of a PS5 Pro even worse in comparison. That $399 PS4 Pro today would retail for $526 plus it included a disc drive! I understand that PS5 Pro includes 2TB of SSD storage, which is definitely more expensive than the cheap 5400RPM laptop hard drive the PS4 Pro was saddled with, but to charge almost double ($700 + $80 disc drive) to match what you got in 2016 is outrageous.
Well no-one I know is buying one. Usually that's the complete opposite so .. Loads bought a PS4Pro in comparison. The disc drive being an extra expense put everybody off completely. If there were all these games already pushing the ps5 it wouldn't be so bad. But there's hardly any games going to be worth buying it for marginal gains in the odd title. Meh. There's obvs going to be a few with more money than sense.

Console prices generally have been ridiculous for the past few generations at this point as far as I'm concerned. That said, the price point of the Pro isn't even the biggest reason I'm not planning on getting it. The fact that the upgrades for PS5 Pro games are digital only, not available on-disc, is all the reason I need to avoid it. It's the same reason I don't like smart delivery on the Series X. If I'm buying the brand new hardware, I expect the software I'm buying specifically for it will actually utilize that hardware.

Selling out of the disc drive and not the machine tells you exactly what you need to know about how consumers feel about physical media vs buying online.

They will eventually be forced imo. I've been thinking about this (and the GPU market) lately and I think I realized something: forever now, hardware developments have been essentially a spectrum.
You had advancement and investment all along it. But right now, the is a very distinct diverging towards the extremes.
On one end you have Nvidia hedging forward towards only the highest end desktop and enterprise stuff. While AMD, ARM and many others are investing towards the bottom end in advancing mobile for the markets who cannot be afforded to be served on the high end.
...the middle - where consoles and most GPU sales have always existed - is drying out. Companies no longer can afford to invest there, nor seem interested. And as a result we are seeing less and less compelling tech options, advancements consumer offerings there.
Instead you have companies (and I suspect Nintendo, Sony and Xbox will follow) seeing a segmented market, where you serve the mass with mobile augmented with cloud, streaming, AI or whatever .. and a halo market who support halo products.
The rush now is to advance the mobile experience to that which consumers traditionally expect from mid-tier hardware offerings.
In this, the companies will be forced if they go with AMD or ARM to stay within the confines of the technology they have fabricated and developed (or mobile), or venture with Nvidia or their own inhouse solutions...
Solutions, I imagine will result in those halo products I described. And that is how we end up in a future, where to satisfy the niche crowd of hardcore halo consumers - while still surviving off the mass market - we end up at two skews: mobile and desktop.
I suspect Nintendo's Switch, like Steam Deck too - are setting a trend of mobile living room hardware that can be docked to streamed to a TV or Monitor.

Doubtful since the Pro is a premium version that's available at the same time as the normal PS5, so it doesn't affect the base of the platform and therefor game sales. If they made the next base console that expensive then there would be much less people to sell games to, so that would not make good business sense.

@@joefield5217 Getting rid of physical media might be a help in the EU. The EU has done a lot of things like cracking down on Apple's App Store for being a monopoly on a big platform. Without physical media on the Playstation they are in the same boat and may be forced to open up to other digital stores, making it more like the PC market (where physical media has been dead for a long time).
I bought my pro just couple of days ago. Like you said: no disk drives available. I bought my pro at Media Markt (Germany) and they told me, they expect some drive units around march‘25.
Just get a base PS5. the pro is bs. All the things that it promises are better on PC anyways. At the end of the day they're both plastic boxes one slightly faster than the other.

Yeah, because of a few factors. 1 is there's enough rich ppl who don't care. They're the ones who already have a PS5 and are basically spending $1300 within 4 years for their PS5 consoles alone. Crazy. But also stock wasn't super high.

It really is a luxury product. The price is really insane. I could not afford to buy one. And it get's my scared. It is just an upgrade of a current console. With a next gen console the price will be even more extreme. I think I will skip new consoles because I do not have the economy to buy it if the cost will be more than the PS5 Pro.

I game primarily on a high-end PC and I made the shift to all digital gaming years ago. I do own a launch PS5 with a disc drive and I have used it a total of 2 times and that was to watch some old blue ray movies I have. With that being said, it's nice to have the option. As it's been said before, it's outrageous that for $700 you don't get a console with a disc drive. But as long as us consumers keep spending our hard-earned money on these overpriced products, companies like Sony will continue to take advantage of us. Sony does not care about its "hardcore" users that have helped PS get to where it's at today.

I sent mine back to Sony for a full refund after a week of playing different games. Was nice to get 700 back! Yes, the games looked a little better, but not 700 better. Will pick it up later when its 600 bundled with a disc drive. Absolute pisstake the current disc drive availability situation. Sony is not listening to the very people that got it to its 30th anniversary.

He is saying it's not worth $700 to him. Further more, it's NOT $200 better. Remember that PS5 Base/Slim got a $50-$100 Price hike years into release depending on region. The PS5 was much cheaper, so it's really a $300 difference.
ALSO remember that the $700, is MINUS the disc drive which was included in the $500 PS5 your comparing it too. So increase that difference for what your getting versus PS5 Base at launch.
ALSO realize that in many places (like the US) that's $700 PLUS Federal sales tax, internet sales tax (as he bought his from Sony), electronic tax (depending on State), shipping & insurance (which you pay for when buying from Sony)...
Meaning he probably paid closer to $750-$770 most likely, and more if he got the drive or stand... which where included with the base PS5 when it launched for $450.

Imagine buying PS6 (digital) $999.99 MSRP after tarrifs only to play GTA VI rendering at 800p native textures to achieve 60fps to be upscaled into 4k. At that point just buy PC IMO or streaming cloud gaming subscriptions eventually.

@@Superdimensional things are made overseas because it is cheaper. production in america is both more expensive and labor is more costly. not too mention components will still need to be shipped in. if everything was done in the US, the price will still be higher due to the higher cost of production here. also if you were to make things in the US, you need to build the factories and enable the production before implementing tariffs. do you see how it’s a lose lose regardless?

Of course it sold well initially. Sales are a combination of the 30th Anniversary sell-out, scalpers and the small number of people dumb enough to pay the high price. The long-term sales of the Pro at these prices will not be sustained. Also, the CEO of Playstation isn't going to tell the truth. He has the highest amount of interest in keeping the price high for the PS6. Oliemack is right. Short term is decent sales. Long term, not-so-much.
And the PS5 base model is on sale for Black Friday. Making the difference much higher than $200. Sony has lost their mind. 🙄

Disc drive same price as 3 games? Lol on a black friday sale not even, last game I bought was diablo 4 digitally for $80 same price is the hard drive, it was a drunk moment for me and my girl I never buy digital unless it's for oennyd to the dollar I always rather get physical to be able to resale.

I don't doubt it will sell....there are plenty of suckers in the world. I just think it's a rip off. Plenty of videos on this console show the boost is not really worth the price increase, especially without the disc drive. I hope in the future, developers will be able to make use of the hardware upgrades to really bring the best out of the system. The value just isn't there right now.
Upscaling is terrible, we are seeing more and more negative reviews on the image quality, flickering textures, etc. If this is the future, no PlayStation for me beyond the 5. I'll start buying exclusively in the PC, which I already own, and that's it. Raw power = full resolution.
I think the ps5 pro will continue when the ps6 come out because of the ssd, raytracing, and the power level it's at.😊

If PS6 is diskless and no option for a drive I'm done with Playstation even if it's my preferred console and going all in on Switch 2. I'm fine with that. I don't buy digital games.

The pricing for consoles was supposed to remain behind PC by a wide margin so people didn't have to think twice on an impulse buy. The ps5 pro model is going to put PS6 in the realm of unaffordable pricing for a large majority of their own player base, when the could've skipped mid gen and priced the PS6 at $600.

I’m happy with the PS5 Pro. I can see why the disc drive was left out. Having kept my base PS5 I like the fact I can move to another room in the house, and don’t have to worry about grabbing the disc/game from the other room all the time to continue my game. I did buy the disc drive due to buying alot of AAA games on physical a lot of times, but playing COD, Wukong and etc too I would’ve been ok without it 🤷🏾♂️. It’s a great upgrade considering the 2TB and other specs
