  • Baofeng BF-888S is a cheap Chinese handheld UHF transceiver.
It has 16 programmable channels in UHF band. Each channel can be programmed (you need to buy USB cable) to various frequency for simplex or trough repeater use.
BF-888S is very convenient for camping, fishing, hiking and everyday use.
The range depends of many factors. Best range you can reach in the open space, without hills and buildings between transceivers.

Depends what frequency you have it on, but I’ve had a true 2 watts out of them, and inside mine, that’s what it says they are

Two watts are what they're rated at. The resellers and vloggers commonly misreport this, and power meters are notoriously inaccurate. Hang an extension coax between them, and I'm eve more suspicious. I'm awarding two watts to mine ;-)

Line 888 and 777 gives medium 2,5W at high. Yours must be at low mode.

In low mode mine (both of them) gives about 0.5W. But no matter, still good weekend radio. Also I use the local repeater, so, the power isn't very important.

Sorry, I have no idea... Maybe it will be license free, if you set PMR frequencies and 500mW RF power:
Personal Mobile Radio (PMR) devices are permitted to work without any license in the frequency band 446.0-446.2 MHz with a maximum transmit power of 500 mW e.r.p. Such PMR devices mean hand-held portable radio with no base station or repeater use and operates in peer-to-peer mode.
