He was more pushed into Chaos than chose it willingly much like Angron, but instead of the Butcher's Nails marring his decision making, it was the horrific trauma of his upbringing on Barbarus which would forever haunt him.

It's like learning the name of the great great grandfather of the guy from the game Monopoly. Why should I know this? I don't know, but now I know it, and I feel like a better person for it....I need help.
You have to imagine just how rough Barbaros was if the after Mortarion left and got in charge of his legion he didn't hesitate the reorganize the legion into the horrible one it became. Using inhumane weapons of virus and chemical varieties. he was a brutal and terrible ruler from the start. Of all of the mperors sons he is one of the few I could say was a lost cause from the start. His planet and wounded pride metaphorically and literally poisoned him from the start. And he dragged the once fiercely loyal legion of the Dusk raiders to damnation with him. it was almost as if he was rebelling before the heresy even happened. Mortarion is the kind of person to fail and/or do hypocritical things and instead of admitting it and changing to fit his ideals, he buries his head in the sand and lashes out at any accusation that he is anything but he claims to be. He fought against the power hungry necromancers of his planet who made the lives of the people of barbaros horrifying, and yet when put into power he became just as cruel and terrifying as them. He hates psykers cause of what he'd seen through out his time on Barbaros, yet here is both a pawn of the very source of psyker abilities, using psykic power and ruling a noxious plague world as his foster father did. He knows he is everything he hates, but any attempt to get him to openly admit it or see it ends in him have manic rages in defense. And for this he refused to see the path he was going down.
I like Garro other than that the death guard is kinda lame. Mortarion became everything the stood against. He like many sons could not accept that the father knows best and let go of his pettiness to do what must be done for the good of humanity.. that is my biggest problem with the traitor legions.
