Coral reefs are important to marine life ecosystem. Various species of marine life such as commercial fish need coral reef habitat to shelter, breed and become the main source of food. In Malaysia, the coral reef habitat is estimated to be 4006 square kilometers and its value reaches RM 10.1 million to 174 million per year. Unfortunately, the human activities and world climate change has caused deterioration of the health of the marine ecosystem such as coral bleaching which cause the coral reef habitat to erode. The government has therefore taken the initiative to protect these coral reefs by gazetting several islands in Malaysia as marine parks. However, not everyone can visit and experience the marine parks-based activity provided. Therefore, the aim of Coral Reef Virtual Preservation (CRVP) is to develop an immersive marine park environment by using virtual reality technology. It offers an immersive experience for users to interact with coral reef 3d model; where they can plant, move, and resize the reef as needed.
