Great job on a challenging piece of Cherry, Gary! I love all the remaining nature in the piece. Great idea to use the Dremel to clean out the residue. I love the slight curvature at the top of the bowl. Just a nice, simple touch that makes all the difference. Great job, my friend, keep"em coming! 😊

You took on an interesting project and found the beauty within it. The Critter Trails Bowl, the Busy Bugs Bowl, the Way-Back Rescue Bowl. Sometimes what might be viewed as blemishes are the map and the story of where you have been. Far more fascinating than flawless to my mind.

I’m with you Gary. A large percentage of the wood I turn is “bad” wood. They’re often some of the nicest pieces I’ve turned. I tend to see bug holes, bark inclusions and even some cracks as features not flaws. In my opinion life’s too short to turn boring wood. I’ll always be willing to give a piece of “bad” wood a shot.

Thank you Duane. That is a good way to put it. I had some boring wood from a Leland Cypress we had taken down. I use it or jam chucks of all sorts. Some a bowl fits against and some a bowl sits inside of it. So it has its use as well.

Absolutely awesome work Gary! She turned out to be a beautiful bowl! Around 3 months ago I cut a Cherry burl bowl for a friend. As with yours it had residents who had customized the interior to suit their needs. It turned into an awesome piece. Because of worm trails and inclusions I left the walls a little thick. Last week he called telling me he hears munching going on from within!! I guess it took them worms some time to get over their wild ride! Lol!!! Microwave them wormy bowls!!!

Thank you very much Skip. I do think that there are some very beautiful turnings where epoxy is used. I prefer not to use it because of past reactions I have had with working with resins. And my wife uses all my shavings on her plants and and pretty sure she would not be happy with a mix.
