My first time visiting this unique station, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of horn action and friendly crews and cops. Video contains all trains between 8:30a and 12:00p. Enjoy =)

It was so strange going through here on the Acela. The streets were blended into a high speed railway!

I'm really gonna miss that Hybrid K5LA horn once these Acelas retire, but either ways, the horns on the new Avelia Liberty trains are cool and funny sounding at times.
I've taken Amtrak from this station a few times; it truly is a beautiful, vintage place.

So much going on at the New London station. Amtrak and Shoreline East Commuter rail, Car ferries to Orient Point on the East tip of Long Island and Fisher's Island, the Coast Guard training clipper ship Eagle and submarines from Electric boat often cruising up and down the Thames River. A great place to hangout.

It's still here, what do you mean, don't you mean that old Acela bell, it wasn't functioning enough so that why they have to replace it into a e-bell.

Thought the Acela normally stopped at New London. Also imagine if one day you were at New London station and an attack sub just comes up or down the river sailing by.

3 Acelas stop there a day. Trains 2151, 2190, and 2172.
sccrdude22 I was held up for 2 hrs back in early 90s when a sub was stuck. Back then you switched from electric to diesel I think in New Haven
the Acela only stops at new London in the early morning and the late evening

The first Acela in this video currently has an unknown location. Does anyone know where it is? It is very sad to think that in 10 years the first generation Acela will never be seen on the NEC again, the Amfleet I's are retired, and ACS-64s will only be on northeast long distance trains.
I had a pipe dream the other night that one day one set could have a single powercar replaced with the lone jet train powercar and go on tours of the continent, but I already know that will never happen...
That first Acelas Hybrid K5LA almost sounded Canadian tuned like a K3L or K5H, wonder if it had a dominant 3 chime

if you want something REALLY good head to Kingston, RI. The best station in the northeast.
Kingston, Rhode Island is where to go if you want true high speed.

it seems odd this station has its platforms cut in half by a railroad crossing! how often do cars use it?
the road is there mostly for town people to access the docks.
i think its for the Block Island ferry. for the vehicles to access and exit the ferries

i think the Tilt function on the Acelas is turned off for this curve.

@@dariofinkel6191 Their is no "wrong iron" in 261 and 562 territory. Wrong Iron slang applies in 251 territory. None exists on this section of the Corridor. Amtrak does not designate their mainline tracks as directional. While they normally use 1 as a Westbound track and 2 as an Eastbound track, they will routinely run opposite ways for getting around congestion.

Why is there still a grade crossing in 2018? trains can go 130+mph but sure lets have a grade crossing. Why is New London a Union Station. its only been served by one railroad. (well 3 through mergers. New Haven, PC, and Amtrak). I think its the only railroad station where the platforms are separated by a grade crossing.
The curve stops any prospects of high speed runnng through there.
