So many perfect parts slotting together in this scene. Harpo, Groucho and Zeppo approaching comedy with such varied styles that all work so well together. Flipping genius.
@@TheSmart-CasualGamer You're right. Allan Jones played Gil. Such a great Marx Brothers film. Which movie is better A Day At The Races or A Night At The Opera? Allan Jones was called Ricardo in A Night At The Opera.
How about when Groucho couldn't focus his eyesight with the contracts? "My eyes are perfect. It's just that my arms aren't long enough. Have you got a baboon in your pocket?" Some of the funniest lines just don't make sense. Love it!
Had a man ring me regularly trying to get me to buy some 'money making' software. Kept putting him off until I listen to what he had to say. It was software that predicted winners based on jockey/horse/barrier/course/length/etc.. It would automatically come up with a best bet. I rejected it. Woke up in the middle of the night laughing as I realised the software was the same as all those books. Times change scams don't.
"Even my best friends don't know I haven't got a breeders guide". "Well boss...I feel pretty sorry for you walking around without a breeders guide." "Where can I get one, as though I didn't know" . "One is no good. You have to have the whole set." "Hey, you know all I wanted was a horse, not a public library." ha ha! Chico was so gangster, lol
As a young kid I loved the Marx Brothers, I never cared for the three stooges or Laurel and Hardy much. I will always have fond memories of watching the Marx Brothers movies.
@@jewwhosbetterthanyou3193 The only stooges I really loved are Iggy in the Stooges. I have nothing against The Three stooges I just found the Marx Brothers so much more clever in there humor.
You do need to see the scene in its entirety, but that being said this deserves to be way better known than it is...I still use the phrase “getting Tuttsie-Fruitsied whenever someone is trying to hustle or upsell me
I sometimes say Tootsie Frootsie Icecream at work, and when people ask what I'm talking about. I just look at them with pity, because they obviously don't know the magic of The Marx Brothers.
The best line in a marxs movie was Groucho telling chico(on piano)"if you ever get near a tune lete know"i use that line today when I hear tayler swift.
Animal Crackers The same movie where he talked about shooting an elephant in his pajamas. Yes, in fact, for any of today's music, I would use that line myself.
would love to see the whole scene in high def. some people have done it filming it off of their TV that is no good. Great scene and thanks for posting it though.
Groucho with all those dam books, is what its like trying to get into internet marketing! no its not that sales funnel its this sales funnel (repeat infinity!)
HOW TF can there be 27 dis-like's?? This entire movie is so hilarious it's a health hazard :) LOVE that exchange 1:36 then at 1:48 Groucho's just beginning to smell something fishy :) "You've got it, huh?" and the nod Chico gives him. How those guys could get through some of these parts without cracking up is beyond me.
I wonder if there is one current comedic movie that will still be bringing people laughter in 80 years!?!?!?! The most comedy actor that comes to mind is the great Jerry Lewis.
“I feel-a sorry for you boss, watching this video without the beginning. You-a just wasting your time, watchin the rest of that video, if you don’t a-got the beginning...”😂🤣
The way capitalism in America has become. This age old comedy is worth watching over and over again. We must regulate capitalism. Love the Marx brothers.
never saw this! it’s really a dandy! LOL. Did you guys notice that Groucho goes off stage with books still between his legs?! how he walked like that is beyond me! 😆😋🌷 oh dear, now i want tootsie fruitsy ice-a cream. jeeminy, they sure were comic geniuses! :} 🌼
The Marx brothers and their writers were so perfectly dialed into the foibles of human nature, not to mention that they had such a keen sense of the absurd. That's why their comedy holds up so well today. They and other comedians of that era proved that you don't need to drop F bombs to be funny.
A life long Marx brothers fan. Been a fan since I was a kid. They are just as funny today. 👍👍
I'm getting a fine tootsie fruitsying right here.
😂😂🤣
One of the cleverest scenes in nearly all the MB films
If this is the cleverest, the rest must be pretty damn stupid!
These gentlemen have probably influenced more comedians than anyone else in history
Seen it a million times but just can’t help smiling at this 😂

Not sure if I missed something here, but Zeppo isn't in A Day at the Races.
Don't forget Chico.

@@TheSmart-CasualGamer I was sorry when Zeppo quit, but apparently he didn't think he was doing enough
This routine and the routine about the contact and the "Sanity Clause" from A Night At The Opera, are the two greatest comic routines OF ALL TIME!!!

"You haven't got that book" has to be one of the most iconic lines in cinema history.
I would have thought it was a Monty Python sketch, haha!
So far ahead of their time. Superb.
Well, that or good comedy is timeless.

Brilliant! The timing, facial expressions, the "business", absolutely classic! (…and not one single F-Bomb!) Thanks for posting! :)
Classic marx bros
What A Fantastic Scene 🎉 Bravo 🎉 From Scotland 🏴😊
This is a classic scene, it never gets old....
I NEVER TIRE of Groucho's expressions!!!!
But you tire of your real identity, loser.

I love this stuff ! It is ageless!!
They were incredible talents.
"I'm gonna get it in a minute, though, aren't I?"
Get your tootsie fruitsie
Great movie and can't get enough of The Marx Brothers.
Timeless, priceless, comedy right here. Get your tootsie fruitsie here.
Leaving out the whole beginning of this scene spoils the comedy and build.
One of the best scenes of all time!!!
The marx brothers are the best comedy legends.❤❤❤❤❤ I love them.
As a young kid I loved the Marx Brothers, I never cared for the three stooges or Laurel and Hardy much. I will always have fond memories of watching the Marx Brothers movies.
What about Buster Keaton or Harry Langdon??........
Abbott and Costello?
Roscoe Arbuckle?

This scene is a classic, I like this one and the overcrowded cabin on the ship.

"It's not that book...nah it's not that book....naaaaah you haven't got that book!".....I'm dying lol.
The nod after killed me..... :) Groucho's JUST starting to sense something sketchy
The very reason why we went from printed books to digital books.
I'm getting mucho high just thinking of Tootsie Fruitsie Ice Cream
"You don't handle any bookcases do you?"
"No, but you come back tomorrow....."
😂🤣🤣
A classic...geniuses at work that you can bet on!!! The Marx brothers funny then now & tomorrow!! Odds on it....my favourites. :) :) :)
DLC in 1937!

Comedy Genius.
Epic scene, never equaled👏👏
Tim Conway, once said in an interview. he got the idea to go off script and attempt a cut up from Chico.

One dollar, or four for 5, OMG that's great!
Is it $4.00 for 5 books or 4 books for $5.00? lol
@@kiwitrainguy That's a great question. Knowing he's a con man I would say 4 books for 5 dollars. Good thought though my friend!

You really need to see this scene from the start when Chico says here’s a sucker coming and Groucho is trying to put his money on Sun Up.
Who knew ice cream vendors sold betting guides?😉
This is the story of my life
These guys sure were something weren't they.
Classic
You haven't got any bookcases have you?
One dollar, four for five
Priceless!!
Great
In real life, Chico is a compulsive gambler that his brothers have to bail him out.
Chico was definitely the most troubled of the Marx Brothers.
Yeah, so .
Live Service gaming in a nutshell.
I wonder if there is one current comedic movie that will still be bringing people laughter in 80 years!?!?!?!

this clip survived Dec. 12th 2012 and the market crash.
Why cut off the opening? Waste.
