  • In this video I show a very common issue with the W211. My 2008 Mercedes-Benz E350 is being used for demonstration.
    Here you will see the issue, necessary disassembly and tools required to remedy the issue. It does require basic wiring repair knowledge which is not covered in this video.
    Use of the material shown in this video is to be used at you own risk as I am not responsible for any damage done to your vehicle from use of this information. This procedure should only be done by trained and experienced automotive technicians.
    Enjoy! Thanks for watching!

    My brown wire just broke now and this video helped, thanks. It is amazing most other videos on this issue always were caused by the broken brown wire, not the other ones. I think there is a design fault here but Mercedes is not willing to do a recall to fix this common problem 😦

    This was SUPER helpful. To remove the 12 volt outlet, unscrew it from the back side. To disconnect it you will need to cut the zip tie, open it up like a clam shell, and then pull the connectors out sideways. Also, my trunk would not open until I used a screw driver, to simulate latching it.

      Did you have a zip tie holding the wiring down, as well, like this guy? Take it off & leave it off. It doesn't need to be there & hence you shouldn't have had a problem.

    Thank you. Great tips. 2 wires were broken in my case on my E280 2009 model. All the wires was housed in a black conduit cable sleeving tube. The problem is the conduit cable tube has been broken into 2 pieces and become the bending point to cause the wire to break over time.

    If Japanese cars are not having similar problem of insulation going brittle then Mercedes are using wiring having sub par plastic materials. It is possible they are blending in too much % recycle plastic when making their wiring?. This would be a consideration for class action lawsuit?.

    BTW, you can join the wiring by simply twisting the two halves of the bared wire together & insulate with heat shrink, NOT electrical tape, as tape can start falling off with age! Simple fact!

    With the broken wire, does it make a whirring noise? Mines makes a noise just doesn't open

      That’s more likely an issue with the release mechanism. The broke. Ground wire as shown in the video is usually apparent when 3 things happen: License plate lights out message/ license plate lights not working, trunk doesnt open without key and interior trunk light (mounted to trunk lid) doesn’t work

    Is it necessary to disconnect the battery before repairing the broken wires?

    • @MercedesTech

      It’s always a good idea but not necessary. Just want to be sure not to not let an exposed (stripped) power wire touch the metal body anywhere. Otherwise there could be sparks and you might pop a fuse

      Sounds like something else is going on. Be sure to check the same bundle of wires for more broken wires. There are often more than just 1 broken. Be sure of course you have the same color wires taped together and that you got them all.

    • @MercedesTech

      Could be, very common on 211 sedans. But pretty much applies to any make or model door wiring. Sometimes they just break over time from opening and shutting and heating up and cooling down hundreds of times

  • @myredute

    Your problem was the zip tie which actually tightens the sharp angle for the wiring to drop into the area intended by Mercedes, who never put a zip tie on the trunk bracket. I've got a 2003 W211 E320 which is 20 years old. It has no zip tie & the brown wire never looks like breaking. The zip tie can actually cut the wire over a number of years & this, my friend, is your problem. Mercedes actually have the wiring routed down the underside of the trunk bracket, held in place by clips pushed into holes in the bracket. This is NOT a common problem on the W211 if you don't interfere with the wiring. Take the zip tie off & leave the wiring alone, as Mercedes intended!!!!!

    • @MercedesTech
      @MercedesTech  5 месяцев назад

      Uhh, ok?

    • @myredute
      @myredute 5 месяцев назад

      @@MercedesTech Maybe Uhh,ok? to you pal, but I've owned Mercedes cars (3) off, for a number of years, all sedans, a W124, W203 & W211 & never a problem with "trunk wiring". Obviously somebody couldn't keep away from zip ties & the result is broken wiring. End of the argument!!!!!
