      I'm sorry Robert, I made a mistake on the Eheim video. I removed, fixed and replaced it and I couldn't tag you on the new one but I can answer you here.
      I went and fiddled with one of mine to try to break it in order to figure out how to fix it but I struggled to re-create the problem you are facing.
      The directional flow adjuster does indeed lift up. It seems to need to be pushed fully down in order for the venturi to work. What I would consider is removing the filter so it is completely empty and making sure it is pit together properly so all the pieces that slot together are doing so properly. Then I'd make sure that nozzle is pushed right down and attach the venturi again set to the position you want. Then put the filter back in and turn it on.
      Hopefull that will resolve it.

    Great vid Daniel. Have you ever kept Amano shrimp or a type of snail with Keyholes?

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  3 года назад +1

      Thank you very much.
      Yeah I've kept Amano shrimp, MTS and Ramshorns with them.
      The Amano were totally fine. Hard to tell with the Ramshorn Snails as it was a six foot tank with a good population of them which kept going strong and I never saw a Keyhole bothering them but that doesn't mean they definitely didn't. The Malaysian Trumpet Snails were a different story though, I frequently caught the Keyholes harassing them. They spend most of the time under the substrate so I was able to keep up good numbers of them but the Keyholes made a dent in that for sure. Surprised me to be honest, Keyholes are so placid but a tasty snack is a tasty snack hey?

    I really would love some of these in a juwel 450, do I need to do anything special with the water parameters, in terms of keeping the PH stable? Im not quite sure how you do that. Are they quite hardy?

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  Месяц назад

      Honestly stability is far more desirable than chasing parameters which could lead to constant swings, not great for fish health. As long as your conditions are near to what these fish require they should be fine especially if you buy them locally.
      One of my tanks is a Juwel 450 too. Really great tanks in my opinion.

  • @salmankushdi9319

    Nice keyholes, i have three red ones in a forty gallon at the moment not yet fully grown and looking at rehoming my half size opaline gourami as its chasing my keyholes too much. Any experience keeping stuff with these? Looking to replace the gourami that wont exhibit the same behavior? Rainbow cichlids? Red breasted acara? A couple more keyholes? Ive seen completely white keyholes online but never actually found any but another couple could be nice

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  4 года назад +2

      Yeah Gourami are a bit like Beta. Some of them are very relaxed while others are just mean.
      I kept a Gold Gourami with mine and it was fine but I think it's luck of the draw with them.
      Keyholes are very mild mannered so anything aggressive simply doesn't work but anything non aggressive generally does.
      Rainbow Cichlids should be fine because they are generally mild natured too. Folk say Rams are fine but I haven't tested that myself. They can get a bit territorial when they're breeding.
      Most non aggressive community fish should be fine; Swords, Cories, Five Banded Bard, most Tetra, etc.
      I kept an Electric Blue Acara with mine which was fine. My Acara never bother anyone, the EBA or the Red Breasted but then there's always exceptions to the rule.
      Keyholes tend to keep to the lower levels of the tank so something that uses the surface like Hatchet Fish might be a good combination. Just make sure you have a lid with no gaps if you try them because they are notorious jumpers. Really nice schooling fish though.
      Keyholes appreciate caves to retreat to when they feel harassed so if you can offer those it may help them feel more comfortable.
      I hope those ideas are helpful to you.

    Hi! I have two questions, the first being, can i keep them singular or do i need to keep them in a group? Im trying to prevent breeding aggrsssion, since im keeping them in a community tank. However, im fully up to getting a pair if they arent that aggressive. The other issue however is getting the right sex. Which leads me to my second question, If i get two of the same gender will it be ok? Thanks!

  • @nvr2seriouscc972
    @nvr2seriouscc972 5 лет назад +1

    Ty for this! I just saw them and heard of them for the first time yesterday at my local fish store, almost like a bolivian ram with that stripe band across its eyes. Do they grow fast? Is it ok to keep them with juvenile oscar and severum?

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  5 лет назад +3

      Yeah they're really nice fish.
      To be honest I don't think that's a good match. In my experience Severum even from an early age can be quite boisterous and I feel like they would be too much for these gentle Cichlids.
      I've never kept Oscars but I understand they are very dominant, even more so than Severum so I don't think it would be long till the Keyholes were struggling to keep pace.
      I realise that's maybe not what you were wanting to hear but I'd rather give it to you straight than set you up for potential disaster.
      If you have another tank I'd certainly suggest giving these guys a shot. They really are rewarding fish.

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  5 лет назад +3

      Haha yes. It's pretty hard not to fall in love with them.
      I hate to stifle anyone's excitement but I feel like 29 is the low end for them. Maybe okay for a pair or 4-5 if it's a species only tank. I do prefer to aim for best possible conditions for my fish though so as much space as possible.
      If they do have tankmates remember they can be timid so give them a few flower pots or caves to retreat to if they want to get out of dodge.
      Hope you find a way to keep them comfortably. They're great fish, you'll enjoy them.

    • @evano8312
      @evano8312 5 лет назад

      Daniel Keeping Fish oh I was only thinking one of them cause my current stocking is 2 pearl gourami 2 sparkling gourami and 9 rosy loaches is that too much??

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  5 лет назад +3

      @@evano8312 I think that would be fine especially as they prefer the mid-lower part of the tank.
      I'd maybe consider a pair as they are definately more comfortable with some of their own kind around for company.
      Just watch the Pearl Gourami with them. If anyone is going to be aggressive towards the Keyholes I'd bet it would be them.
      A wee tip for adding new fish is to shut the lights off while you're introducing the new fish and for an hour or so afterwards to let everyone get comfortable and like I said if you can offer them a wee cave to feel comfortable in they'll appreciate it.

  • @Boss-zo4lw
    @Boss-zo4lw 5 месяцев назад +1

    Is one of its own ok with a EB Acara and a Angel?

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  5 месяцев назад +1

      Both of those fish get larger and are more dominant than Keyholes so it may be intimidated and possibly domibated by the other fish. That said each fish has it's own personality as we know so if you have a particularly laid back Angel and EBA it could be fine especially if you have plenty of scape and hiding places for the keyhole to retreat to if it needed. Not a clear answer I'm afraid but not sure there is a clear answer to this one. Sorry bud.

    was wondering if you would reccomend putting my angelfish in with my keyholes or would you advise against it

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  4 года назад +2

      I would think it would be okay as long as you don't have any particularly aggressive Angels. You won't have any problems with the Keyholes bothering the Angels.
      Angels tend to use the top of the tank and the Keyholes the bottom.
      Angels can get a bit aggressive when breeding but provide a couple of caves for the Keyholes to retreat to should they need to and they should be fine I think.

      @@faze_sc0p3s_dbi96 there are many fish you can do a species only tank in a 30G bud.
