I used to use Henry's 208 roofing tar. It was amazing, but too toxic to use indoors so I gave it up. I would apply with a large brush or trowel. It is unstable, meaning it would re-activate with paint thinner. So, when I wanted to make it permanent, would varnish with damar varnish. All a very dangerous, toxic and flammable situation. Looks great, but I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. Instead, get similar results by mixing paint to mimic color and add sand to create texture.
Thank you for sharing your studio and art and processes ❤ So very inspiring to me.

I'm just using Galexy S10. Amazing what the smart phones do.
Wonderful presentation Diane-- With your cold wax pieces are you using oils? or working over acrylics?
Hi Mira, I am working with oil and cold wax, although at times I finish my acrylics with a cold wax coat.
can you demo how you did the Indian school?
Indian School was many layers of collage, then a layer of newsprint, then covered with white paint. After it was dry I excavated by sanding.
You have a beautiful studio. Wow! Lucky you.
Thank you. I have been there a long time. It has allowed me to paint large.
