I just saw Charles in Philadelphia as Alfredo in Verdi's La Traviata. He blew me away. What a lovely voice he has. So moving in his quiet pieces and stirring in his strong points of his arias. No one can match Pavarotti but I found some of Charles tones to be on par.

Saw Castronovo last night at Covent Garden - as Tom Rakewell in The Rake's Progress. Stunning in every respect. Such a beautifully controlled voice, and a very moving actor. It was one of the best night's I've had in a theatre - thanks largely to this wonderful singer!
How gorgeous in every respect!! The opera world is fortunate to have together with Jonas Kaufmann 2 extremely talented, musical and most romantic looking tenors around at one time. The boys are going to go far.
A tenor who handlre the passagio this well, will have a very bright future! What I enjoy mostly there is not one nasal tone we so often hear with Florez and Calleja.
I appreciate this a lot. But still young, and too 'modern', like a lot of singers today. The approach is from a modern sensibility, although they are singing arias from the Romantic Age. There is not enough consciousness of 'line' that you see in the greats of the 20th century, who were not as exposed to pop music as these current generation of singers. It is probably just inevitable unless ou find a singer with a 19th century soul.
This tenor will be one of the tenors that goes on to have a very long career. Outstanding, effortless sound!
