    Some superb bulbs there Steve. I
    Was unfortunate to have my whole crop ravaged by rust, but I left it and surprisingly I have had 84 decent bulbs out of 96! Amazed is not the word.
    I have always planted all of the cloves from my largest garlic, it was only your original video that changed my mind on doing so for next year, but you've now gone and changed my mind back to carrying on as was! Lol. Well done pal, excellent crop.

    I have grown some small garlic on my balcony, definitely the sizes are bigger where it gets sun and more rain at the edge. But still tasty and makes a nice bruschetta with the small tomatoes I'm already harvesting. Good tip about the small cloves being planted as that saves some money by not wasting them

    Wow, what a wonderful video. I grow mostly elephant garlic, saving the biggest to replant each year and I am now getting a lot of attention from the "old boys", asking what is the secret of growing such large garlic 🤔😎.
    So when I started watching I did not expect to learn anything new. How wrong was I. Lots of new info to make my growing even more successful, thank you for being so generous with passing on all the experience you have.
    A new trick I discovered this year is you can eat, not just the escapes (seriously yummy), but can eat the whole plant, like a leek, before it starts to form the bulb. It was wonderful, so next year I will be planting very close, then take out every other one as "leeks", leaving the rest to develop bulbs.
    Have you tried this 🤔, if not give it a go 😁😎
    Looking forward to your next video 💖🤗

    After you lift the garlic what do you do to the soil to prepare it for the brassicas?

    • @GreenSideUp
      @GreenSideUp  2 года назад

      Hi Pete, these are "No Dig" beds so I dont not do anything to them until late winter early spring, just replant. On real soil I would dig through and rake level, then sprinkle some blood fish and bone onto it and rake in, a small handful per square yard or metre or as it is brassicas going in next you could use a high nitrogen feed such as poultry manure pellets, same amount...Steve...🙂

    Another great video! I dream of growing garlic as big as your small bulbs! I think I'm harvesting them too soon as I pulled mine up a number of weeks ago and I'm way up in the North West on the Soleway coast. Any tips on when you absolutely know they have to come up? Or should I try just leaving a lot longer regardless to see what happens. I'm thinking refrain from ever harvesting until 1st August or something.

    Oh my goodness, what an amazing crop Steve. Sadly mine all got rust, so pulled them up last week, very disappointing size but I can at least eat them. With rusted garlic could I still use them for replanting for a crop next year or is it best to buy completely new? Great vlog as always, thank you 😊

    • @PhilC74
      @PhilC74 2 года назад +1

      Mine to got ravaged by rust and I tried to slow it by removing the most heavily infected leaves, however it totally covered the whole crop in the end. Thankfully it must have been quite late on in the development of the bulbs as they are mostly of a decent size.
      In answer to your question, yes, you can use your bulbs for next years crop as rust doesn't effect the bulb and doesn't carry through till next year. It requires a 'live' host / plant to over winter so your bulbs will be fine to use. Good luck. I'm going to cover mine with a cloche for as long as possible to reduce rainfall impact and wind effect of spreading / infection possibility of rust. When I remove the cloche I will also be applying a heavy mulch as well. Maybe worth considering for you?
