Mjolnir conquest has to be my favorite build, sure it’s not “optimal” but it’s more than suitable for the majority of tasks in a fleet setting. and the sound.. ahhhh the sound of those guns is amazing to me. Even with modded runs I have difficulty not going for a mjolnir conquest flagship lol
Mjolnirs have that niche of being able to do everything at the cost of flux efficency and ordinance points. Shield breaker, armor breaker, emp, frigate sniper, artillery, point defense etc.
I wasn't very accustomed to conquests as I haven't gotten to them at the point because I decided to learn ship groups one by one at the time (i.e. low-tech-only, then high-tech-only, then midline-only), but what made me realize how capable they are was the last hurrah mission. Going toe to toe with an onslaught made me realize just how absolutely bananas maneuvering jets are and what an agile ship the conquest really is, being able to circle around the missions onslaught faster than it could turn. I think its the second most slippery conventional capital, right after odyssey.
Whenever i fly a ship without a boost, teleport or maneuvering jets i'm just disappointed every time i press the ability button. its always "wait, you mean this ship sucks at positioning for a gimmick? awww man." positioning > all other abilities. defeating the enemies in detail is the most important starsector skill, and you need maneuvering for that.
I've had devastators on one side so they can deal with fighters/missiles but I also have hypervelocity/maulers in the mid slots but those did very well.
I do that with some builds, but in this case the biggest advantage of having mjolnirs on both sides is being able to shoot down pesky frigates that flank you without wasting time turning around. Without any carriers or frigate hunters in the fleet this was the best choice.
@@bigbrainenergyguy Another reason I arm both sides of my Conquests is (and I think you kinda mentioned it in the video) to effectively double the armor, since once one side's worn down I can swap to the other. It definitely eats into OP that could've gone to cap/vents, but I like the playstyle.
On a completely unrelated note - If I buy a new rig, I'd love to learn Blender to recreate some of the Starsector ships in 3D... Don't hold your breath, though
Ive seen like every vet players saying this ship is terrible but I think its pretty solid, I dont like to command it but its really effective a lot of the time, I can easily cut half my fleet and use just this ship and a few others in most situations
Works best with officers that focus on Elite Ballistics Mastery. Would not fare well without them even if using Support Doctrine, as they may be outranged.
On the game's forums it's somewhat up for debate, but there are a number of veterans who will jump to defend the conquest. It's something of a meme that every thread devolves into a conquest thread eventually. And yes, elite ballistic mastery is a godsend.
Thanks for the great build, I am still trying to learn how to make my fleets, but this seems like a good idea considering the AI is just working correctly with them. I tried with some legions XIV I founded, but the AI always made them stay on the basck since they were slow af.
Honestly will always remain my favorite vanilla flagship. I can’t stand slow as fuck whale battleships personally. This baby at the head of a champion line backed by Herons though is just lovely, and as seen here it can do pretty damn well as the line itself with the right builds.
ah yes, the holy trinity of midline ships: conquest, champion and heron. throw in some sunders, hammerheads and monitor then you've got yourself a perfect well rounded fleet
Can you give a full list of weapons and hull mods for conquest? Im a massive macro player with ADHD so despite playing it over 500 hours i dont know jack about ship customisation lol
adhd is just so diverse... im all about customization (and changing my mind halfway through and ending up with a weird hibrid that does neither and then redoing the whole design and then giving up and using an optimized build that somebody else came up with)
I don't know, my opinion on Conquest is still the same, it'd be worth putting those dp points elsewhere (especially if you are not upping the deployment cap). Conquest is exactly what you'd expect out of a midline ship, they are perfect to "fill" the fleet, the more ships of the same type the better they are, they support each other and other ships extremely well hence 5 Conquests is actually strong but they are contesting those points with other ships from the same type: Brawler, Monitor, Drover, Hammerhead, Heron, Champion. Do you know how many of these ships you can put in your fleet as compare to 1 Conquest? Basically what I'm trying to say is, any more than 2 Onslaught is a safety hazard (for you), Legions are incapable of doing nothing but tank (unless it's XIV variant and you actually pilot the thing), Paragons are too expensive and also a hazard to each other if you have more than 2 deployed but Conquests just get better exponentially depends on how many you deployed. But why would you when you can use those points to fill the battle with Champions and Eradicators instead?
The problem with conquests is that the AI sucks at escorting and running interference (which is where the PC comes in), which makes the concept of a back-end fire-support capital ship kinda impractical given how the front doesn't always act like a front. but by it's lonesome, the conquests rn is about average.
Conquests aren't support ships, they are cruiser killers like the OG battlecruisers. Which fits with the cruiser school doctrine of old. Fast enough to chase down cruisers, fast enough not to fight battleships. The battleship eaters here are cruisers.
I would second that as well. Conquests felt like artillery platforms to pick off smaller ships, and leave anchor ships or wolfpacks to flank and hound the capitals.
I don't know why maybe there was a change, but I swear even steady AI always got to close with conquest. I literally always them somehow in the middle of the enemy formation
I'll just pilot the conquest my self. Since folks points out the Flux problem,I'll just need to make the battlecruiser so fast, no missle can put a dent because I alreadyhaul the Hull ass out of danger. Definitely handy with large long range weaponry, with large point defense. Although I am better acting as the tank agro in monitor, Industrial and Technology Tree 5 each, leadership depends (try no officer build), combat I never take unless I have spare point for that.
In a real battle you want escort ships to draw enemy attention while you use your mobility to pick off smaller ships one at a time until you have the numbers advantage. I'm making another conquest video to show off why that's important, but it won't be done until I stop feeling lazy.
