I discovered this by accident when I was doing the bismark mission. I gave the hyperion to the ai and put safety overrides on it and it started teleporting everywhere.
Few ships actually benefit from capacitors when they could have extra vents instead. Having a higher flux cap means very little once you reach that limit because you still have to get rid of all that flux somehow. Unless you're flying an unusual modded ship or modded hullmods that actually interact with your flux level, dissipating flux faster is ALWAYS better. I'd even take a flux distributor over capacitors.
@@therealbahamut i disagree. the extra vents start to benefit once youre passively venting flux for over 20~ seconds if you can punch thru shields within that time frame, then the extra capacitors are worth it
@@therealbahamut what about battleships? Won't their big base capacities necessarily mean it will take a long time for them to vent, and therefore you want to vent as infrequently as possible?
That vid of a fights vs redacted shows it's good for the AI officers as they can teleport to safety, but as a player if you prefer going combat skills over campaign ones it would scale so much better with piloting a capital.
advanced piloting tactic you can use while using the ion pulsars is to disable an enemy capital ship or cruisers engines and then push them away from their allies allowing your ships to easily gang up and merc them.
some tips for anyone new using hyperion the phase teleporter has almost infinite range - you can get various meme set ups like instant transmission behind a capital and just fire typhoon reapers if you use command points properly you can get them to alpha strike and flee very efficiently (it teleports where your cursor is, not a fixed length like other phase skimmers) if you don't like the alpha strike set up you can opt for a phase lance set up with advanced optics and targeting unit and just tickle them to death. those lances are usually better on phase ships
With this shield flux production you would get more flux dissipation with stabilized shields than from the same OP put into vents I think, as long as stabilized shields cost under 15 OP.
Best setup for SO hyperion i found was 2 heavy blasters on the sides and 1 cryoblaster in the middle, you can get one if you use the jump in the secret spot from the story (you dont need to do any quests the spot is always there) and go to the hidden cache. Its not guaranteed but you can always save and reload until you get one
in my experience it helps to put a proximity charge launcher in the universal slot. It allows you to wipe out dozens of fighter wings faster than omen spam, *and* it's dps is comparable to a heavy blaster as it has the same base damage and fire rate (albeit a different damage type and limited ammo). fighter spam generally counters ships with poor pd, especially frigates, so it's worth considering on a player piloted hyperion. the ai tends to waste all of the ammo shooting it at shields though.
I would say that with the latest update afflictor with 3 AB is the new Hyperion but much cheaper, in hands of the player it can easily wipe out medium fleet solo, hyperion wouldn't be able to do this simply because of peak performance limitation.
Huh, and to think I only used this as my designated chaser for so long... No safety overrides just 2 heavy blasters and a chain minigun used to catch fleeing transport ships. Instead I could've been using it to blow up capital ships.
A frigate sized ship with two heavy blasters IS pretty potent but 90 seconds PPT is just too tight a timetable for me. Sticking around after PPT just ends up costing tons of supplies and you're gambling on malfunctions too. One engine failure could cost you your ship. Some folks like making it work but it's just not for me.
Yeah it can be a little terror. Fitting given that it is the epitome of high-tech: Fast, powerful, and extremely expensive to buy and upkeep. My personal favorite build for SOHyp is Heavy Blaster [upgradeable to Cryoblaster], Ion Pulser [for stunning], and a Heavy Machine Gun in the center for very flux efficient shield cracking. Three or four of these alongside my Zig made good work out of the doritos. In fact, next time I start a new save I may try for a frigate-only run. There's certainly enough skills to help them.
You could just kite at the maximum range of the HB when you tele behind it instead of hovering in range of even its point defences, thats just more stuff shooting at you.
I remember using that one officer skill that gives extra ability range and cooldown. On omens it gives them real long EMP zaps that almost constantly go. But on the Hyperion... oh lord... I just watch the AI teleport all over the place during fights. Though sometimes they derp and mess up, but I'd do the same TBH. =P
Do your AI pilots do well in this ship? I like to roll around in big beefy capitals but I could see myself putting some pilots in a couple of these and bringing them along as flankers.
yeah man. you can just murder capitals in group fights with an ion pulser + two mining blasters. stray large gun hits during the teleport animation can delete you though
Hi man i got something you might wanna try. Make wanzer from diable mod have 6 unit per squadron/LPC on all type, try it for maximum gundam level mech swarm

Aren't three phase lances with High Scatter Amplifier faster at killing. You seem to miss quite a few of the blaster shots, there is no missing with phase lances.
I'd definitely give an ion pulser and a phase lance a go. It's a fairly reliable combo for most ships I use, and adding a heavy machine gun just makes it better.
I always run 3 heavy blasters, all linked. You don't WANT "sustain" on a ship like the hyperion, you want to dump your load as quickly as possible and then gtfo. Then you can teleport back in and do it again and again.

the luddic path probably tried to sabotage the unholy technology
Me yesterday: "The Hyperion seems kinda gimmicky and not practical at all."
Me today: "I'll take your entire stock."
the hyperion doesnt benefit as much from extra capacitors as it does from hullmods due to its high base flux stats and low OP
thanks for the tip, I'll just put the OP to vents for nonstop heavy blasting
