    I played softball through college and have been coaching the last few years. Things are ever evolving and your videos are so awesome with breaking down different drills and mechanics for the younger players I coach. Definitely have a new subscriber here! :D

      Thanks Jess! I have a lot of big plans for the summer as softball season kicks off. But I appreciate the kind words-there’s a lot to unpack with throwing but the baseball world can lend a lot of good ideas to the softball world. Look forward to a lot of in-game footage and breakdowns of D1 softball players coming up soon.

    Can you explain why sidearm should be the go to? I'd love to see a breakdown of the actual mathematics in regards to how much time it saves to get rid of the ball quicker vs how much velocity you lose and how much slower it gets to first

      It basically boils down to that the backswing of the arm action is mostly the same in both. But in sidearm, the throw begins from that position whereas going over top it adds a step or two. And, sidearm is anatomically easier and often the only possible choice when staying low and throwing from there, or while moving. I’d suggest going out and experimenting.

    I'm doing some refreshing as I used to play college ball and many years later am trying to teach my daughter good fundamentals. She's 10 and has been playing for a few years. She's always had a nice hard throw, big arm circle. I used to throw that way so I loved seeing her throw the same. But over time she started to develop a side arm throw. I'm old school so I was always taught that side arm= bad so I immediately started looking for drills to help her get her nice big throw back. Except now, after doing some research, I'm finding that throwing has evolved. I see in your videos that her side throw looks just like yours! Now I'm thinking maybe I need to just leave her alone😆. My question is this... What do I teach her to do as her main throw? I want her to have a good hard throw that she can modify according to where she's playing. That side arm throw won't be strong enough for center field, which she is now practicing at quite bit. And now it's her go to throw. Sorry for all the questions! I'm just trying to figure out what to teach her.

      She does need a "standard" overhand throw in addition to the sidearm which she's already good at it. She needs to consider them both as just separate tools to do the job.

    Thanks .. what are exercises/drills to strengthen the arm and throw. I play senior ball.. my arm is not as good as days gone by. I am comfortable at second but longer throws are difficult.

      Hi Duane! Thanks for watching - this playlist has good arm strengthening exercise for the shoulder: ruclips.net/p/PLW24R7j24LgO9Bm5rqov9cWoxfcXZ9RxO
      My best solution for throwing drills is one of my two throwing courses. You can find them at courses.danblewett.com - they take the guesswork out of forming a routine and learning the best drills to improve your throwing. "She's Got a Cannon Lite" is a great course that sounds right for you (it's not just for women, I promise).

    How crucial is the four-seam grip for position players in your opinion?

    • @SnapSoftball
      @SnapSoftball  5 лет назад +2

      Good question! Answer is that it doesnt matter - if you watch MLB or high level softball players, they just get the ball and throw it. It takes too much time to find that grip, and often they're getting rid of it as soon as it enters their glove. It's largely a myth that players should be trying to find a specific grip when they field a ball. But - I do suggest keeping the fingers close together- see this video for explanation: ruclips.net/video/dirH-5Cj1DE/видео.html

      @@SnapSoftball Thanks! Exactly the answer I was looking for. I love how specific and detailed some of your instructions are. I'm 'only' playing in a recreational team over here in Germany but as a poor natural thrower I find your videos really helpful.
