I have a good arm and I'm strong, but I always throw sidearm and end up hurting myself by the end of practice. I also end up throwing with only my arms because I take too long to release the ball after grounding it, which is causing me to lose momentum and not use my hips at all.
Actually a really solid explanation. I didn't even mean to watch a baseball video, just happened to be looking at sidearm throwing in reference to throwing spears, but this still managed to answer all my questions.
Thanks for the explanation, I recently started throwing side arm as a bad habit and I’m really trying to fix it.
Sidearm makes me elbow really really sore
Would this drill help youth BASEBALL players as well?
Very good explanation.
thank you so much
im a catcher, 14, and ive had a side arm for years. when i started doing it ,it was perfectly okay but then coaches ive had over the years tried to critique it. thats when it started hurting and i was not making good throws everytime. the power is there but sometimes the accuracy isnt. should i change it or keep throwing side arm?
I’ve always thrown overhand but I’ve recently switched to side arm because it felt natural and now I’m more accurate and can throw faster
If it’s causing pain I would ask if your throwing with a rubbery arm style, like a whipping of the forearm. If so try to correct that step and move on from there
I've seen a ton of low elbow / "push" softball throws at all levels. All girls I've seen come from baseball programs -> softball seem to have much better arm slots. I'm "theorizing" that the weight/size of the softball at early ages cause the shoulder/elbow to drop in kids and teach bad motion early on.
I agree, and I mentioned it more in depth in this video (among others): ruclips.net/video/Qdi3iiAAZYQ/видео.html
throwing side arm is hurting my arm so bad, ever since i started pitching my throwing has changed. i can’t throw anymore without it hurting & nothing works to change it :(
go see a doctor
Wait same, I'm a pitcher and have thrown sidearm for years and it just started hurting my arm so now I'm trying to stop throwing sidearm
What about a “rubber arm”
i dont know what youre asking
Thx bc I just tried out for a team and didn’t make it bc I throw side arm
sorry to hear that
What about outfield?
I can throw far ..but it's in between the side and over throw and I play both in and out so I wanna play out I know I can throw but I wanna throw properly but my arm is fighting my brain and going in between
There’s no one way to throw. If you can throw hard, then you’re probably fine.
So I use to throw “normal” but I started sidearmed because it felt more natural and didn’t feel as forced and I was able to get more speed and accuracy but I had a softball player told me I was gonna hurt myself but I am yet to get as sore as I did when throwing over hand so should I still switch
sidearm is not inherently bad--it's just a different way of throwing. Watch an MLB baseball game...ALL of the infielders throw sidearm all the time...they're not all injured, are they? That player doesnt know what she's talking about.
