15:29 It is quite clear here that the QM8 with the most dimming zones does a better job as with the ISO that high you can see the blooming around the runner with the Bravia 9. Watching this with my LG C3 42'' so it is very apparent that the QM8 is actually better with blooming control and that it is actually TCLs decision to sometimes appear a bit 'lifted' in order to provide a higher global brightness and highlights but NOT a processing or DTMapping limitation! With the ISO high i could repeatedly see this throughout the whole video. TCL wins and its NOT even calibrated!

I think in a lot of cases I prefer the picture in the X90L but the blooming is off-putting.

15:09 The blooming on the QM7 is quite obvious compared to the QM8 here.
QM7 clearly has no active dimming inside the runner's triangle of limbs, oppositely the QM8 appears to reach nearly full black.
Bravia is technically just as bad as the QM7 but they hide it by raising black levels in the area around the runner so the lack of contrast is less apparent.

Both TCLs lose detail due to their brightness is also problematic. Even the color itself is not correct and it is a shame to compare this TV with the Sony bravia 9, because the difference is clearly visible and the price of the TV itself speaks for itself. I have a TCL Miniled, but I will NEVER buy this brand again, and I would certainly rather pay 5 times more money for a high-end TV than TCL again.

1:10:28 Uhhh? You could literally have turned on brightness preferred and see if it made any difference? You said "I wish the Bravia 9 could incorporate it as an option". Well, so just turn it on lol. It is literally there as "an option".
Also, you have Advanced contrast enhancer that also would increase the brightness a lot and still try to retain the blacks.
I really don't get why you didn't try it? You were talking about it, why not experiment and see. It might cause more blooming on the B9, but brighter stars or maybe still as black but much brighter stars and hence making it an even bigger leap compared to the TCLs. Why not remove the speculation and just show it. Would it affect accuracy. Sure. But the point is to show a consumer "can you do it, what does it look like".

    • @stopthefomo

In my original testing of all these settings, the Bravia 9 will not allow you to raise specular highlights at the cost of raised shadow detail like the QM8 - but I acknowledge your point as I just assumed we all know Sony hard caps some of these metrics. Nevertheless as there’s been at least 1 firmware update since I last checked this, we’ll see if it’s possible

I have the QM7 coming next week.
I'm impressed by it what I've seen here and other reviews.
The QM8 IMO over brightens . But does accel in certain areas over the QM7
But I also feel The QM7 has certain areas where that QM8 isn't as good.
I'm done with Hisense. Never again. But I'm seeing more and more top reviews on TCL reliability over Hisense. And in my experience. I would agree.

I'll be the first to call this "D65 is dead!"
The real comparison here is "Should you buy an uncalibrated $700 TV or a calibrated $3,000 TV?" and I think the answer will always be in favor of the uncalibrated TV as long as it doesn't make green fields look nuclear, red, or blue which no TV does today.
It's actually shocking that it happens in a dead mode like Movie.
If you added a Sony Bravia 9 in standard mode with color temp to Warm 1 and a few more color adjustments with all the bells and whistles on, it would beat the other 3 including the other Bravia 9 by 10 miles.

The 75" QM8 also has 42% more dimming zones than the 65" QM8 (65" 2880 zones vs 75" 4096 zones) so even within the same model you're going to see a big upgrade getting just one size up.
Of course the 75" is also much more expensive, but given that the 65" QM8 is already in a league of its own that makes the 75" model QM8 the true peak of its class.
(Sadly I've never seen specs for the 85"/98" models, but even in a best case scenario IF the 85" QM8 has 5,000 zones that's still not enough of an increase to make it worth the price they charge for 85".)

Yes it's totally insane that the 85" doesn't jump straight to 5,000 zones.
The TV market is so weird.
So this SHOULD mean the 98" is the only version of the QM8 with 5,000 zones and the 85" just shouldn't exist at all.
Nonetheless at 2.6X the price of 75" the 98" is still a pretty bad value.
The 65" and 75" are really the only size of QM8 any normal human being should ever consider.

I don’t own any of these TVs, I have a Samsung QN85D, so I have no skin in the game, but I need to call something out. FOMO, it feels like you’re bending over backward to give Sony the edge. That’s not lining up with what I’m seeing.
For instance, in the stormy sky clip, you point out the details on the bottom left of the screen that are less noticeable on the QM8 and QM7, but you fail to mention that the cloud body on the QM8 has way more detail and depth. It’s like you cherry-picked this tiny portion while ignoring the majority of the picture.
And during the starfield content, the QM8 clearly showed about double the stars compared to the Sony in some scenes. You didn’t even touch on that but for one quick comment. Over and over again, the QM8 showed more depth, contrast and detail, which anyone watching objectively would notice, but you never acknowledged it once. Honestly, the QM8 was the clear winner here, but I think your connection with Sony is keeping you from being fair in your reviews. You want to keep getting those invites to TV shootouts, free samples, etc. As a matter of fact I bet you will even delete this comment.

None of these reviewers will rock the boat when it comes to Sony products. You can dig through their entire history and you won't find a single negative or even critical review of a Sony TV. The X90L suffers from massive blooming, the worst in its class, and has only 88 local dimming zones, which is shockingly bad for a 2023 mid-range TV. Its color gamut coverage is average at best, and its contrast ratio is poor. Spec-wise, it’s one of the worst TVs in its class, yet every reviewer praised it like it was some kind of masterpiece. Ridiculous!!!! Color Accuracy is a SONY Standard!!!! Created by SONY and Calculated by SONY it is a Rigged Test and Always has been!!!!
Color Accuracy is a Propaganda Marketing tool that has NO Real Application for 99.9% of Actual
Consumers, because Consumers are Not judging a TV by Mythical Color Accuracy Standards.
Consumers adjust their TVS to their own Preferences. No one needs to pay for Calibration on Any of these TVS. Talking about paid Calibration is Fear Mongering Propaganda!!!!
It is NOT Difficult to Adjust a Modern TV to Get a TV Picture that the Buyer likes.
It is a Lie that the 2024 QM8 cannot hold its Picture Settings!!!! I hope TCL Takes you to Court for Defamation / Slander!!!!
Your Side by Side Comparison Videos are Pure Propaganda! All TVS need to be Isolated from Light. These TVS are Casting Light on Each other. Not to mention the Lights you use to Film with!!!!
When you do these Videos you are going off a Predetermined Script.
People who think they can watch a Video of a TV Screen and see the Actual Quality of that TV Screen are Delusional!!!!
The Hisense TV Models are Well behind TCL and Sony and it is Obvious to People who see them in person. For the People who buy them.
The Hisense TV has 3,000 Nits Peak Brightness, SONY has 4,000, and TCL has 5,000.
Numerous Professional Reviewers have agreed with these Numbers given from the Manufacturers. TCL actually has been tested well above 5,000 Nits Peak Brightness.
The Truth is No TV looks Good if you Don't control the Lighting in your Room. Windows need to have Curtains over them. Lights should never be in a position to reflect off your TV.
All of these TVS are High Quality.
The Best Overall TV is the TCL QM8 it is Significantly Brighter with more Vivid Colors than the other 2, being 40% Brighter than the Hisense U8N.
No TV on the Market has Better SDR / HDR than the 2024 TCL QM8. RTINGS actually said this in their Review of the 2024 QM8. RTINGS Completely Refutes this Video. They said the QM8 was very Color Accurate out of the box and after Calibration it was almost Perfect in Color Accuracy.
RTINGS would have said that the QM8 was hard to Calibrate if that was True. It would have said that the QM8 did not keep its calibration settings if that was True!!!!
The SONY BRAVIA 9 is more than twice as expensive as the TCL QM8 and it is NOT A BETTER TV!!!!
