Both the TCL QM7 and the Hisense U7N are the same price right now, but I’m leaning towards the TCL based on quality control issues that the Hisense has. I’d be using this TV specifically for gaming and a little Netflix. Right now I’m using a cheap $250 50” sceptre TV (Walmart brand) Do you think the TCL would still be a good upgrade?
Yes, absolutely yes. The QM7 is my favorite TV I've ever had, and I've had a lot of them. I currently have 9 TV's/monitors and the QM7 is my favorite. I use it primarily for gaming too. I suggested the QM7 to a friend of mine a few days ago to replace an older TV he was using. He bought the 65" model, and he loves it.

Ask Copilot for a review, this should be available on your PC or phone, it uses ChatGPT AI and will give you some good intel, it does get thing wrong, but, if you ask it, it remembers what you previously said, so you can engage like you were having a normal conversation. In this case I asked it for a review, but it got the U8N wrong on having HMDI 2.1 for gaming. But it gives you a good starting point to start your own research.

I just recently bought the 55 inch version of this model. I have a PS5 and for some reason when I go into the settings to look at the current video output, it shows its running at 4k 60hz and that only adjust to 4k120hz when I am playing a videogame. Is that just something that adjust automatically when I am at the Playstation home screen? Also, when I watch a Blu ray or 4k Blu ray movie, it should display it at 4k 120 refresh rate, is that correct?

Great video! Love rtings! My friend has this model but is having trouble with some of the settings. On a single input, when content from Apple TV changes from SDR to HDR, the settings will carry over. Example - let’s say he has movie mode selected and has brightness at 42 in SDR. When content switches to HDR, and the TCL is in HDR10 movie picture mode, the brightness stays at 42 because it brought over settings from SDR. Which seems too low in HDR. TCL seemed to confirm this is how it’s meant to perform as well. Is this something you guys noticed or dealt with when calibrating your model? Do you know if the Hisense U7N allows for dedicated settings whether in SDR or HDR on the same input? Thanks!
in initial setup there is an option to apply this setting to all other modes (gaming, sports, movie, SDR, HDR). Suspect your friend chose that option vs time consuming adjusting individually all the other settings. Filmmaker mode has zero settings, Dolby Vision Bright or dark.
@@kevincody8391 awesome thank you! I’ll have him check this. Oddly enough, I helped him test again and saw it behaving as desired where settings were changing fully per different source material all on one input using hdmi 1. And since you have already seen the picturisation produced by an oled, when you say it's impressive then it really must be a good buy for someone like me who is coming from an old tv series.
I still don't get the handling of reflections rating. For instance when I went to the store I thought Bravia 9 was the worst because every light caused a streak across the entire screen which was extremely distracting compared to others. The one shown here seem better to me than the perfect mirror reflection of something like a C4 oled.
It's preference, but rtings really likes the glossy mirror look where whatever is behind you is superimposed on the screen. They will complain about any kind of Halo or rainbow effect, but staring at yourself like it's a mirror in low light scenes. 9.5/10 lol
Hello, I want to buy this TV, but in Poland I found a model called TCL C765 (55MQLED 85) is it the same model as TCL QM7? I checked the specifications and they are the same, but I'm not sure if these are the same TVs
Hey Abby, this looks like one of those so, so TVS. If you are a average Joe consumer then this QM7 would be a decent TV for them. I would save up a little bit more and go the QM851G which I've heard is a awesome TV for a little more money. i believe the QM851G has even been on sale lately and it may be further reduced in price by Black Friday and the holiday season.😊
Best Buy just had the 65" version of the QM7 for $599 a few weeks back, and I'm sure they'll have it again going into the holidays (55" was $499). There's no TV that competes with this in that price range.
@@stuckintheinbetweenyou are probably right about that. But it's getting close to Black Friday so I'd hold off until then and see what the QM851G is going for.The reviewers have been highly praising the QM851G.😊
Right now the price difference at 75" is $300 more for the QM8. The QM8 gets a little brighter but I think the QM7 is plenty bright in most situations! It's clear they have the same media engine because all the ratings of both TVs starting at Low-Quality Content Smoothing to the end of the review are IDENTICAL, it's just the screen's glossy finish/reflectivity and terrible out-of-box calibration that hurts the QM7 A LOT, and the latter is FIXABLE. Sound is actually worse on the QM8 ... I think at this price differential, the QM8 isn't offering an extra $300 of value - 80,000:1 contrast vs. 160,000:1 contrast is probably difficult to distinguish without a computer, 2000 nits content (to utilize the QM8) is rare, and only in the brightest spot in the entire house could the QM8 be considered for purchase ...
So basically pick one of these up on a holiday sale and I can save the money on an oled and still have a really good experience, I don't ever see the hisense for sale so the TCL would be my choice

For Me, HiSense is automatically disqualified because of the poor quality & longevity of their products, which is never considered by rtings.com, but is widely known - just ask chatgpt or read the recent article in consumer reports, Hisense is LAST in TV quality, it's not even close ...
12:07 there is an error at this point in the video, you say that the HiSense has better contrast, did you mean better dynamic contrast? Because the native contrast rating of the TCL (8261:1) is higher than Hsense(4771:1), and the barchart measures average (80% dynamic 20% native) which gives TCL (68%) an edge vs Hisense (58%).
It's kinda a given that it beats the Q7 from last year because the Q7 didn't even have minLED... A better question would be " Is this an upgrade over previous years R646/R655?"

I think when you do your final recommendations about this TV vs another, you should also specify that the color accuracy point should be graded on a curve based on personal preference. Sure the U7N has better color accuracy out of the box, but if the QM7 is brighter and has more vibrant colors, that is more pleasing to some eyes. I personally prefer punchier colors over accuracy.

TCL QM7 vs c765 The TCL QM7 and TCL C765 are both excellent TVs, but they cater to slightly different needs. HDMI Ports: The QM7 has HDMI 2.1 ports, which support higher resolutions and faster refresh rates, while the C765 has HDMI 2.0 ports. HDR Support: Both support HDR10 and HLG, but the QM7 also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+3. Additional Features: The QM7 includes gaming-specific features like VRR and ALLM, which are not available on the C765. Overall, if you're looking for a TV primarily for gaming, the TCL QM7 would be the better choice due to its higher refresh rate and gaming features. However, if you're looking for a more budget-friendly option with good picture quality, the TCL C765 is still a solid choice.

C805 has nothing to do with this TV. If there is analogue, it would be the C765. On that note, it would be really great if you could do reviews for the EU models too. I bought the Hisense U8N 55" that has all based on your high scores for everything. What I used most was the DSE and reflection handling. The DSE is far better than the Vizio 2020 M7 50". It was all over the screen and mainly the right half would have a darker tint, it had a tan spot in the corner,& it vertical lines. On the U8N it has one long strip on the right side. There is other minor DSE. You can really see it with light blue and light grey skys. I do watch Plane spotting videos and this where DSE shows the panels true DSE colors. I sent an email about the U8N having feet over a pedestal. I'm buying a pedestal stand on Amazon. Thanks for the music in this Video I needed this video for a sound check and had to reset my Vizio subwoofer to the sound bar and recheck the sound levels. Thanks for the calibration page I also used it for one of my settings but 2 changes. Warm 2 over Warm 1, using contrast at 50 for all picture settings and using the 1860 color gamut over 2.2.

You do great review. Well done. Thanks for all the details.

This tv is incredible looking. The only issue is the inverse ghosting when using VRR at lower fps if they could fix that it would be perfect.
Both the TCL QM7 and the Hisense U7N are the same price right now, but I’m leaning towards the TCL based on quality control issues that the Hisense has.
I’d be using this TV specifically for gaming and a little Netflix.
Right now I’m using a cheap $250 50” sceptre TV (Walmart brand)
Do you think the TCL would still be a good upgrade?
Yes, absolutely yes. The QM7 is my favorite TV I've ever had, and I've had a lot of them. I currently have 9 TV's/monitors and the QM7 is my favorite. I use it primarily for gaming too. I suggested the QM7 to a friend of mine a few days ago to replace an older TV he was using. He bought the 65" model, and he loves it.

How does one go about calibrating this tv? :)
I always wondered too, must be able to tweak some settings via youtube tutorials
Qm7 at $500 seems like the best deal for a 55" tv. Period.
Yes for this price definitely worth it. Unfortunately I can't find it cheaper than 900 $ in my region 😢

Superb review. Superb reviewing style!
So, if you don't want to do a bunch of calibration, go for the QM8?
Is there a video on how to set the Post Calibration Accuracy???
I just bought the QM7 online at Best Buy on sale for $499 ($300 off the regular price!). Picking it up tomorrow and looking forward to getting it set up and calibrated. Thank you so much for the great content, I have used Rtings reviews for quite some time now and have always been very impressed with your knowledgeable reviews and attention to detail, keep up the great work!
I did the same thing in July. I traded the q7 in for it and it's AMAZING. Calibrate it to your liking and enjoy 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Hi everyone since you have QM7 and the U8N I would still like to see a comparison video that would be a good match up for the 55" size. There isn't one. I think there should be one that really shows the differences.
@joeferguson3820 I rather have a rtings video with actual TVs.

I bought the C805/C755 which is a QLED VA panel (not sure what's the American equivalent of it QM7/QM8 or something else). My dilemma about Hisense vs TCL ended when I learnt about numerous QC and existing flash problems of Hisense rendering their TVs unusable, which users have expressed and these issues reviewers hardly tell as they never own the devices long enough.
I still think a video match up for the QM7 versus the U8N is needed.
The QM7 is more aligned with the Hisense U7N not U8N. The TCL QM8 is more aligned with the U8N and there are videos comparing those 2.
@kjeneen79 Not for the 55" size this where where they are aligned the most. TV reviewers get 65" or bigger to do comparisons. It's the world we live in,Panasonic,LG,Sony they don't make top tier model TV's in a 55".
We have to take what we can get from a 65" QM7 v U8. It won't happen this year maybe 2025.
@kjeneen79 I know that and watched both.
Any upcoming review of the 765? Sold as the Q9BK8 in Costco in the UK. Is this the same tv as the one reviewed here?

Apparently the UK 55inch Samsung does not have a VA panel?

I just recently bought the 55 inch version of this model. I have a PS5 and for some reason when I go into the settings to look at the current video output, it shows its running at 4k 60hz and that only adjust to 4k120hz when I am playing a videogame. Is that just something that adjust automatically when I am at the Playstation home screen? Also, when I watch a Blu ray or 4k Blu ray movie, it should display it at 4k 120 refresh rate, is that correct?

I bought Q7 because it was $250 CAD cheaper, did I made a right choice? U7 was also a $150 more expensive.
Would you recommend this over the Samsung q80d?

I hope this helped.
@Abubaker42 thanks mate! I currently own a 40 inch tcl 3 series😅 I guess it would be a great purchase for me in that case.
9.5/10 lol

You're right that the QM8 is definitely the better TV for almost everything, if you can find it at a good discount then it's worth it!

For Me, HiSense is automatically disqualified because of the poor quality & longevity of their products, which is never considered by rtings.com, but is widely known - just ask chatgpt or read the recent article in consumer reports, Hisense is LAST in TV quality, it's not even close ...
Hisense uses that crap ads panel in 75”…
12:07 there is an error at this point in the video, you say that the HiSense has better contrast, did you mean better dynamic contrast? Because the native contrast rating of the TCL (8261:1) is higher than Hsense(4771:1), and the barchart measures average (80% dynamic 20% native) which gives TCL (68%) an edge vs Hisense (58%).

TCL QM7 vs c765
The TCL QM7 and TCL C765 are both excellent TVs, but they cater to slightly different needs. Here's a comparison to help you decide:
TCL QM7:
Display Technology: QLED with Mini-LED backlight
Resolution: 4K (3840 x 2160)
Refresh Rate: 120Hz
HDMI Ports: 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, 2 HDMI 2.0 ports
HDR Support: Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG)
Additional Features: Game Master 2.0, FreeSync Premium Pro, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM)
TCL C765 (MQLED85):
Display Technology: QLED with Full-Array Dimming
Resolution: 4K (3840 x 2160)
Refresh Rate: 60Hz (some models may offer 120Hz)
HDMI Ports: 3 HDMI 2.0 ports, 1 HDMI 1.4 port
HDR Support: HDR10, HLG
Additional Features: THX Certified, Wide Color Gamut, Dolby Atmos
Key Differences:
Refresh Rate: The QM7 offers a higher refresh rate (120Hz vs. 60Hz for the C765), making it better for gaming3.
