The reason it sounds so good is because it sounds like the original with slightly better production (except for the poppy hi-hats and other over-production). I'm all for covers that don't stray too far from the original, because very many covers tend to miss the point and just water the song down, but I have to question the impetus to recreate a carbon copy like this. Why not just use the original? What, Billie Joe Armstrong needs the money more than Wreckless Eric or something?

My son is an admirer of Billy Joe and an absolute fan of Green day! ... A little more than three years ago we had a serious accident, in which unfortunately my son had irreversible damage to his spine ... I tried to do it happy, I sent a letter with a photograph of my son to Green day, hoping to get an autograph, but I never got an answer ... Every day that I see him with such enthusiasm listening to this music, I am very sorry that I was not able to give him joy to receive a signature from your favorite group.
I'd like to believe if Billy Joe had actually seen this letter himself he WOULD HAVE happily sent you a signature and then some. Im so sorry to hear about your son. But on another note, you are such a beautiful soul for trying

Perhaps/hopefully tho, one day U WILL be able to share this story with your son. Because i think it might actually make your son feel BETTER, even if only in some SMALL way. I domt see how logically your son could be upset. I know he would feel disappointed he didnt get the signature, but i believe he would acknowledge that IF BILLY JOE definitely saw your letter himself, he'd have the signature. But what this story DOES TELL amd give your son, is the knowledge of just how much he is loved and the lengths you would go to for his happiness. THAT COULD MEAN even more perhaps.

*i also was in a traumatic accident some years back. Was in a medically induced coma for almost 13 weeks. And you know what was even more meaningful to me? I woke up "When September Ends", in mid October, and my mother was right there to guide me thru my recovery.

WHEN I was a young boy, i remember Greenday was originally called Sweet Children and had heard a cassette tape of them from a family friend (recorded audio from a live "underground" show he attended in California).

if you go listen to the original or the version by Die Toten Hosen you can have an understanding of why some people wouldnt prefer this version. Their covers are a little more watered down. The main complaint for this song in particular would be that it lacks power. I do enjoy Billies vocals and would love to hear more stuff thats less by the numbers like his version of Big Yellow Taxi which was fantastic although he was much younger then.

*when i was a child a family friend let me hear a cassette of a band called Sweet Children and i ABSOLUTELY LOVED THEM! They later changed their name to Green Day and the rest is history... Billy Joe and the boys changed my life

Today I had to present a song which is close to my heart in my Sound class (college module). I chose Wake Me Up When September Ends because it is that one song which takes me back in time, to 2007, when my brother used to play that song on speakers 24x7. It is that one song which I would take with myself to a barren island.
And as I played the song to my class, all of them started swooning to the music, including my teacher and it made me so happy seeing that Green Day connects everyone ❤️
