  • A tour of the legendary Honda RC24 VFR750. This bike is often forgotten in the shadow of the amazing RC36, but for its time, this was one of the best bikes on the road. Still, 32 years later, it stacks up well against not only vintage bikes, but a lot of it's more modern equivalents!

Just purchased a white, 1991 VFR750 RC36 with 14k miles.. All original, including the seat cowl, side stand fairing, exhaust & super long rear fender (though it has a short one fitted)
I love it.. should have bought one far sooner! I have 6 other 90s Sportbikes, but it’s the VFR keys I’m grabbing more often than not 😁👍🏼

Brings back good memories of owning one the same as this from new. I forgot how good the motor sounds.
Makes me question owning a GSXR750R slingshot (1988) now. Rode it today and my hands where constantly going numb from weight on them and vibration.
Used to ride my VFR750 for hours and feel fresh, it wasn't considered a tourer when I bought it, but it make sense that it has become one.

It's winter again here in the Netherlands, it's then that I start watching these appetizers, lovely to hear the sound. I rode a VFR 750F for about twenty years, rode it through the alps, rode it with delight. But when I turned fifty I bought an RC 46 800FI and I am equally happy with this one, the 750 feels lighter than the VFR 800. Like you I was quickly taken by the Honda when I bought it (in white, like yours) in 1997. Thanks for your video man, have fun in Australia (visited Darwin and Alice springs once). Cheers, Marc

I paid $1700 U.S. for my '86 VFR750F. But it's rough. The idiot who had it before me, put LED strips all over it and drilled little holes in the plastic to run the wires. Then he didn't put the faring on right and gouged out room for the little windshield. It needs lots of work, and since I will be gluing the plastics back together, I'll be painting it satin black with pink wheels and decals. Runs pretty good though. Told my wife, she shouldn't have let me buy it. It's way faster than any of my other bikes.
    Great video. Thanks.

Great video thanks for putting it out. I’ve just bought a Vf750f here in the UK. Unlike you we’re in the depths of a cold December so it’s a great time to do a resto. Can’t believe the jump in looks from the Vf750f to this vfr they really made a statement. Nice to see some riding on the proper side of the road too!

In 1986 I wanted this bike so bad but couldn't afford it as a early twenty year old. What a nice bike.

Nice review, I have two ones of these. One 1987, above 140 000 km, and one 1988 with about 72 000 km. I like the character, the sound and the 1980 look :-)

Enjoyed the video and the commentary, especially the bit about roundabouts. We suffer from the same level of incompetence here in Northern Ireland. I have the same bike and have made some videos from when the carbs required attention. Still a great machine! Cheers, Alistair.

I got the 750 slingshot instead and didn't keep it long. Should have got the VFR.
I've got a '99 twin cam Harley low rider with brakes from '87.
Looking at a MK1 VFR with 19k miles so came here for a look. Good luck with your channel.

I have an 87 700 and the only thing I would have liked to have seen on those early bikes was a larger diameter fork tube or inverted forks. Engine was great, brakes good, rear suspension good, guages above average for the time period, design/look excellent by any bike new or classic, I love the NACA ducts. If you haven't gotten to fix the tank dent, may I suggest one of those paintless dent repair guys? I don't know if it is double wall right there or not but it's worth a try if not. Look out man, you're on the wrong side of the road. You should hear mine with a pair of D&D cans, it has been described to me by another rider that it sounds like a Ducati in the lower rev range. I feel different about the classification, in the states it was called a sport touring bike ( bc of the center stand) but I think it performed better than most sport bikes of the day. I remember seeing a roll-on comparison with several bikes of that era and it out performed all of the others and some larger displacement bikes. You don't need a fuel gauge with the reserve tank, my light comes on before it needs to be switched to reserve. I like that better than a gauge anyway. You can't run out that way. I like the bike. It was voted the best bike of the DECADE (80's) in Cycle World magazine.

Excellent video on the vfr. Please can you elaborate a bit on the twitchiness of the 16 inch wheel. Would you recommend getting the rc24 mk 2 instead?

You did well for yourself. The VFR 800 is a slow fat pig. Yes the braided lines up front are a good add on.
