Welcome to my guide to beating the Pull Ups minigame in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. This occurs during chapter 14 of FF7 Remake, and like with the earlier Squats, we face off against Jules at Pro difficulty. However, unlike Squats - Pull Ups is much harder and more frustrating. The general concept remains the same though, tap the buttons in order repeatedly as fast as possible (but not too fast that you stumble). However, a few changes from Squats make this one much trickier so hopefully my tips will aid you in getting the winning score.

Took a long while but I did beat him two days ago.
FuzzfingerGaming make sure you made a save file before you go to shinra HQ top look around there’s a mission for three medicines and if you finish all quest, the Angel of Slums will give something in the urban Advancement district.

Just make it a 2 way rythm. For example X and Triangle, second Circle then Square. Just don't try to remember the four way rythm, keep it simple, then u just have to get used to the speed and easy does it
Managed to beat him with 45. I just went at a normal fast pace because I know he normally stumbles at the end which is the perfect chance to beat him.
The load time when you give up is the worst part just give me a restart

I just hang there till the timer goes away and I lose. Load screen sucks and I'm not going to repeatedly do the challenge if I mess up, knowing I'll lose anyways lol
The developers put that option their to reflect on your life choices after being beat by a trainer in drag. Guess I got to hit the gym and practice my squats, so I can pee like a girl when Jules challenges me to a pull up contest.

@@lobopumpchainsavage I maxed all my materia before attempting the shinra challenges it took me 3 tries with aerith, but It took me an hour to do the stupid pull ups it was my last trophy after betting the game in Hard and its only a bronze trophy.

No no the appropriate thing that Sepiroth will do in this scenario is ask what are the rules. Jules replies to win by any means necessary. Sepiroth proceeds to cast gravity on Jules and wins. Any objections towards Sepiroth winning will have to answer his sword.
Jules, the hardest boss in this game.

In real life, you usually start off going fast then slow down as you get tired, not the other way around. Anyone else thought it was odd?

This pull-up game though is a new kind of hell haha I was incredible at the lightning dodging back when I was a kid. My classmates would bring their memory cards to me and ask me to do it for them. I tried to do that again last year and I'm terrible at it lol Guess I'm too old now.

@@Demiurge66 There is a very easy way to get the Gold Chocobo I wish I knew when I was a kid. In a recent playthrough I did it and got it quickly. It's just a matter of saving the game before breeding it and restarting if you don't get it. Saw it on a video here in yt.
Easily the worst part of the game. Wish they would learn mini games are allowed to be fun.
For me this was one of the best parts of the game they made some fun minigames instead of the boring mechanics from the original

The game straight up cheats sometimes. I was about to win but they gave me those stupid charge ups back to back in the last 5 seconds allowing Jules to win. I almost uninstalled the game right there.

It cheats all the time considering Jules’ rep counts as soon as he gets up. Tifa has to do a whole ‘up and down’ to count as one
The reason this minigame is so hard is because the timing is not consistent, some parts go faster than others, which fucks up with your timing, and it's one of those small details that you think it wouldn't affect that much, but boy, IT REALLY DOES.
Tip: its not really inconsistent it only gets faster if you manage also going a bit faster every repetition. I found it pretty easy after that. Hope it helps ;)
@@tomberry753-toxi7 No, it doesn't, I tried that and out of nowhere Tifa literally falls off the poll. Yet Juelz can fall off get back on and do 10 in no time without making another mistake, if you perfect this game it's a lose, lose situation. Anybody saying otherwise is either a troll or out of their rabbit ass mind. The squat game wasn't even this hard. He went from being sort of challenging to god like.

Jules’s rep count is as soon as he goes up, tifa’s rep count is a complete up and down. Jules will always be ahead since his reps aren’t a complete up and down. Only when he goes up so that’s why.
I hate this so much I have OCD and this is a really shitty rhythm game and it's very inconsistent because when you do try to find the rhythm it will speed up for a moment and then slow down based off of how you hit the button at what time I noticed that tifa's at a complete stop for a moment he doesn't speed up as fast but if you're in a rhythm and it looks like an actual pull up it'll speed up but it'll slow back down in order to follow the normal acceleration it was fucking with me because I would do it and it would almost feel like it was screwing me over

its not.the box game is BY FAR easiest. u just need to use the triple slash sword and have deadly dodge equipped

After COUNTLESS times, I achieved it the first time using this method :
Avoid all distractions :
1. Cover half of your TV with a towel, so that you only focus on Tifa
2. Audio settings -> Music : 0, SFX : 10, Voices : 0, focus on the sound to set the rhythm, and slowly increase the speed of your movement
3. Keep calm, change your mind once in a while if you're getting pissed off

I heard about the sound tip, I turned all but sfx off, but it only beeps when you press the button, so how does that help, I assumed it would beep to tell you when to press the button.
chrcoluk Imagine you are a drummer and keep SLOWLY increasing the speed. It’s over if you fall (unless it’s in the very last seconds) Remember the pattern and quickly focus on Tifa’s animation instead of the icons !

How to make a good game: No ridiculous and frustrated mini game!
Theres a "hard challenge" then theres "hard for the sake of being hard". Love this game but whoever designed this can go fk off.
It is literally the definition of something that was made just for the sake of being hard you look at the squat mini game and that was fun and then you look at the pull-up mini game and it looks like it was designed by two different people and one was a sadist God I want to murder the person who made the pull-up minigame
Accidentally hitting the wrong button in this minigame against Jules is one of the most frustrating things in life.
I thought squats were hard, I need a drink after doing this minigame.

People say its all skill based, but they say he never gets about 42 and they got 43... Plenty of times I tied at 44, complete luck based bullshit
It's not luck base, what you have to do is memorize the rythme and do the input as fast as you can, with practise you can do 45-46 pulls up (since I manage tp do 24 in one round at one point I theorize 48 is possible), Jules's max is 44 so when you get at least 45 you are guaranteed to win, so yeah it's skill based but the game's expectation are very high.
Fucking practice skill is earned in most cases

And whether or not you can accomplish that in wha little time you're given is at least partially dependent on how many charge-up the game gives you. So, yes, it is at least partially based on luck.
@@D-Nova There's really nothing of the sort, unless you miss an input it's 100% consistant the hard part is to not mess up, but it's not luck base.
Playing on a launch model ps4 with the original hard drive it's ACTUALLY faster to let the timer run out than to give up and reload.

This took me a total of 3 days to finally do a perfect run, and beat Jules by only 4 points.

Took me so long, cause I have little ones in the house. And when I get frustrated, I mess up more. So, I put the game down, do some lvl grinding, and come back to the pull ups the next day.
Six hours in and still trying

No if you fall in defeat against Jules, you FALL FOREVER!
I just stopped and took a break as the loading times when giving up is ridiculous, much quicker trying again instead reloading. After 4 hours I won on 45 vs 41 😀
Tip 1: Music and voice volume off. You only want to hear SFX sounds.
Tip 2: Don't memorize all 4 buttons for the pattern. Just memorize the Triangle button and which side button precedes it or comes after it. Ex: Triangle, Circle, Square, Cross...just remember Triangle and Circle. Once you get into a rhythm of hitting Triangle and Circle then you slide your thumb to the opposite of Circle and then the opposite of Triangle. It's easier to commit two buttons to memory.
Tip 3: This was my biggest problem..hitting the next button a split second too early and falling off the bar. Most forums I saw said that Tifa's pullup animation should be smooth and not jerky. My advice would be to start off timing the buttons slowly and getting the jerky animations until her 2nd fatigue animation. After you get past the 2nd fatigue animation it's a lot easier to hit the buttons as soon as you hear the ding sounds. Tifa can fly at this point, but make sure that you keep an eye out for the fatigue button and try to master hitting it 6 times and continuing.
Tip 4: You're aiming to get 20-23 reps in each round. If you fall off the bar with only 1-2 seconds left in the round then there's still a good chance that you can beat Jules. My suggestion..if you fall off the bar in the beginning or middle then you're not going to be able to come back..it's better to continue getting practice through the rest of the challenge rather than give up which seems to take a small eternity to reset the challenge. It seems counterintuitive, but trust me..the practice helps and you can relax because you know you already lost the round.
Tip 5: This is challenging so don't expect to get it right away even with all the help and RUclips videos. It's going to take patience to learn the rhythms and you will probably make little mistakes and have to retry 50 times until you get it..I know I did. You will get it. Take breaks if it seems like you're beating your head against a wall. Come back and play it the next day once you've given your mind a chance to reset. Once you see Jules crying in the corner of the ring and hear that ding sound to notify you that you got the trophy..it'll definitely make you feel like Neo from the Matrix when he fights Morpheus. "You think that's air you're breathing? Again."
when u get to the point where you can get 20-22 reps on the first round is when u know its getting better... took me another 20 minutes to get the 44 reps but even then the bastard jules always gets 44 as well. But i made it!!!
Turning of the music and voices was honestly the best suggestion, managed to beat it as soon as I did that.
Even with the music off you still hear that victory fanfare in your mind after beating the challenge =)

I finally got the trophy on pull ups!!! 44-43. Had 10 fails at first..took a break, then beat him within 5 attempts.
So glad that's behind me. Just don't give up if you hadn't gotten it yet. Keep going.
How do we know Jules identifies as a he? lol... Im all for LGBTQ support but throwing a scene like this into a FF game is just ridiculous in my opinion. Not that you asked for it.
I eventually managed to beat him 46 to 44. I found it easier saying the pattern out loud. Starting with the up or down first. Up down right left etc
John Newell I sort of did this as well, but instead said 1,2,3,4. Felt really good after what felt like 50 tries.

@@NeonDefense385 Just remember where the diagonals go, from Triangle to Circle or Circle to Triangle and just repeat it with Square and Cross. Don't focus on anything else, turn down the volume and focus on the diagonals.

What helped me a lot is I turned off the music and dialogue volume all the way down. A couple less distractions.
This, i found both music and dialogue to be quite a distraction, turning both down to 0 made it much easier to concentrate.

Omg! If we're going on about other controller throwing and TV breaking FF mini games. Let's not forget about lightning dodging and 0:00 chocobo balloon race from FFX!
Lightning Dodging is actually very easy when you know how to manipulate it just long and boring.
On the side of frustrating mini games in FF nothing, NOTHING come even remotely close to the 1000 Jumps Rop in Final Fantasy IX, people that complain about Pull Ups Pro in FFVII Remake try doing the 1000 Jumps in FFIX legit without outside programme or cheat to help, and you'll see how frustrating a mini game can really be.
The lightning dodge got easier when I found a good spot to stay on. But the chocobo race is awful

I managed to beat this by 2 points and was so relieved. I never want to do this mini game again 🤣
Struggled for hours but i finally managed to beat him 46 - 44. I was able to do so when i figured out that i could speed up my combinations when the controller was vibrating but it has to be done slowly and steadily. To increase my focus i kept my sight on the timer. Its very challenging but all that makes the difference is perseverance. Good luck !

I did this around 10-11pm, spent an hour or 2 and finally got it, went to bed immediately
Something which helped me was that the directions of the inputs form an hourglass, similar to the hourglass you need to draw in Skyward Sword to close the seal of a particular demon. So better think of this mini game as drawing repeatedly an hourglass. Also, when you have done one button smashing and the commands fade away, just enter the command as fast as possible. And yeah, don't look at Jules and hi you fall in the middle of a round, just reset.
Done this mini game with 0 mistakes five times In a row and he always beats me by one point despite falling off ??? Edit: ironically I’ve now got a guide for this too lol
Jesus Christ, it’s circle. It’s always fucking circle where I fail. I swear to god it takes like ten times as long for the arrow to get to circle. WHAT THE FUCK!
Protip for people struggling. When it starts move your head with the pattern then when it fades keep tracing the pattern with your eyes soon then after you should be in a rhythm or “zone” were your thumb is on autopilot with that pattern at this point. This is how I beat Jules 42-46
I managed to beat it in less than 10 tries. Thankfully… because it was getting on my nerves lol.

I want to give another great tip that worked for me: I covered Tifa score.
Hints according to ppl:
I covered half the screen (the part where Jules is)
Only sfx sound on 10
After second round I gave a break time to me (2min)
I covered Tifa score

This mini game is straight up bullshit. Even if you do a perfect run both times as fast as the game will permit you to move, you still lose. Who designed this crap?
Ye gods and little fishes, I *STILL* haven't beaten this minigame! I give it a try for a few days, put the game down for a month, then try again with no success. I don't even *WANT* the belt, since I know where to farm for them. I'm just afraid that if I don't complete this now, I'll have to redo the first two levels again! Yes, that means I haven't even beaten the game yet! This minigame has stalled me for over a year!

Even when I don't mess up once I can't even make it to 40. It's literally impossible.
It’s possible to push the buttons as fast as you can after the second time in every round you have to punch the button 5x. When I figured that one out, I got scores above 40, but just got lucky ones with 43-41. Even though I lost manny times with 44-44 score
They way I beat him:
Ignore him he’s shit
On round one make sure to get 22
On the parts where you have to repeatedly tap the button do it fast!
If you mess up restart
I remember the patterns by if there diagonal or up down for example triangle circle is diagonal x triangle is up down
If that doesn’t help call out each button
Finally make a noise with the tempo for example I do the boxer breath noise each beat and I gradually speed up

This is beyond aggravating, don't see it happening. Shit harder than doing actual pull ups.
Covering half the screen so you cant see juels and turning down in game background music massively helped me! Took an hour but i finally got there

Took me like 20 tries to beat the fker. I felt nothing. I've ascended beyond god-tier patience level during the process.
After hours of stubbornness and finally fixing the audio I got it in my 5-8 try maybe. 43-40. Finally.
Turn off the music and voice only have sfx on.
Secound cover 50% of with a towel or something.
And try to keep calm.
The Selection for me is when the Circle was the start button Was the easiest one for me

Easiest way to do it is make sure to 22-24 in the first round and then when he goes crazy in the second round make sure you keep up, when he falls in the second round keep going crazy and you’ll beat him easily

It really sucks when Jules fucks up ONCE, he gets back up and apologizes to the player for showing humanity and imperfection 1 time and then promptly puts the player into the dirt. (46-37)

You were absolutely right, thanks! It became much easier once I blocked out Jules and only focused on my half of the screen. One more trick is also to be patient with the button press that follows the fatigue multi button press parts.
I won with 43 points against Jules at 42.I got very lucky because I made a mistake when there were a bit less than 2 seconds left but Jules also fell a few seconds before me and he didn't make it in time to go beyond 42.I did this for almost 1 hour and a half.
I don’t mind losing but retrying the challenge loading is a pain
After watching this video I thought for sure I’d never beat it, but then I managed it on the 10th attempt. I think it might be my greatest accomplishment.

Haven’t beaten it yet here are my biggest tips though:
1. Play without any sound or mute both music and voices. The music is not timed to match the rhythm of what you are doing and this will throw you off.
2. Take a towel or blanket and cover up Jules side of the screen. Then take a Funko POP or book and cover Tifa’s score. This will prevent you from becoming nervous when you see it flash blue then gold symbolizing you’re losing or winning.
3. Say the button combination out loud to keep track
4. Take breaks to relax if needed. Stay hydrated.
5. If you are using a Scuf or other modified controller map the face buttons to paddle is that is more convenient, less on your thumb.
6. Don’t forget you can pause at anytime but the best time to pause is between rounds for a quick reprieve.
7. Turn off Vibration
8. Stand up over your tv so you can look at the screen and the game pad at the same time! This was tricky I had to move my tv to the bureau as I am tall and that way I could watch my thumbs and see when to spam. You pretty much know the pacing but only get confused as you go faster so watching your hands might help.

Finally beat Jules 45-44. Turn off speech and bgm. Covered my part of my tv where Jules is. Finally done with this. Thanks for the tips.

I hate to be the 667th comment, but I had to say this. Watched this video, took a deep breath, and went for it. I went at it like a mad lad LOL, and did it the first try after beating this. In total took me about 40 minutes; I got a final score of 48-41. Thank you RNG-sus!!! (Also you get my sub and like lol, your video calmed me down). I'll be uploading my attempt on RUclips as well!
This was a nightmare!!!! I stayed at it for around 45 minutes before I FINALLY got this trophy! Like you said, one mistake and you're screwed.
Took me almost 3 hours. A few other tips for when i finally nailed it.
I talked my way through the button presses.
I minimized distraction by:
Muting the audio.
Putting a large piece of cardboard over the left side of the screen to block out Jules.
The first time I tried i didn’t fall once and still lost and it’s been 3 days since I’ve mustered the courage to play this game again
Wait for a patch to fix it?
ff15 got a fishing patch, they added an item to make it easier.
Else remote play?
Playing this before rebirth and 100% the entire game. Only thing I need to do before Shinra and holy shit the ptsd!
I finally beat Jules after my 4th or 5th try (today!) and the frustration is warranted...I tried this last night for about an hour and gave up but took a breather and came back to it tonight.
The tips people have mentioned does help to focus (mute all BGM/SFX/Voices and say the prompts out loud whether you're saying the shapes, colour, or up/down/left/right)...and then from there it is just practice, practice, practice (unfortunately)...
If you find yourself getting frustrated, take a breather that day and try it again the next. I have read multiple posts and trust me, I feel the pain when I read how some are still stuck after 6+ hours of trying...

I just beat him 46 to 41 on my third attempt!! Here's some more tips!
1. TURN THE MUSIC VOLUME DOWN/OFF! This allows you to hear the beeps and get into a rhythm much much easier. Can't stress this one enough.
2. It's always much better to go a little too slow than too fast, especially until you start getting a better paced rhythm.
3. Idk if this was as much of a factor as the music volume, but if Jules is really distracting you, throw a t-shirt over the left side of the screen so you can still see Tifa.
4. He kinda covered it in the video, but Jules will probably pass you towards the end. Don't get discouraged cause he always falls at the end, giving you a chance to catch up.

Glad i'm not the only one thats struggling. Could someone tell me is there any point in this beyond the platinum trophy. I've got enough champion's belts.
I'm personally more than happy to skip this because its just not fun, especially when you take into account the loading time, it just makes it frustrating.
I hope whoever came up with this got fired.

To be honest, I just got to 45 while jules was at 42 since right when he stumbled at 42 I sped up just a little bit at around 3 secs left when I was at 41 to just make it to 45. I thought it was 44 but it counted as 45 right at 0. How lucky was that. Now, NEVER AGAIN will I do this painful mini game except for the story related part when I do my Hard mode run LOL! Heck, the whack-a-box mini game was waayyy funner than this mini game just less challenging depending on the weapon equipped IMO.
Nothing hurts more than 43 - 43.... Every time I get to the last pullup I need I get the taptap prompt... Fucking game
