first saw him on tv when i was a 7 year old in 1967,loved his music ever since,a really wonderful man and a true British music institution, god bless you joe ,keep on playing ..
Some years ago a friend and neighbour treated me and my missus to tickets to Joe Brown and his band . I hadn’t thought of going to this gig and didn’t know what to expect . I was utterly blown away , a wonderful musician with an insipiring personality and brilliant band who share an exquisite sense of harmony . An unforgettable night . All love and best regards to Mr Brown !!! 😎👏🎼✌️👍
Written by the great Don Gibson, one of the most gifted composers of the 20th century. Combine his work with the genius of Joe Brown and you have nothing less than absolute, utter perfection.
It was Don Gibson singing of this song when I first heard from the radio when I came to U.S by married to French American. All those heartache and homesick in the flower of my youth identify this song 🎵 ❤
Joe's act always involved audience interaction, he was always popular in the theatres but the big auditoriums were always in the distance. No doubt he made a great living and had a good life doing what he does, beats playing in bars and clubs. He'd have made a fortune on the Cruise Ships had he wanted.
Joe Brown has been a star longer than I've been on this planet - and I was born in '63. Fantastic and very underrated musician and entertainer. And arguably this country's first great rockabilly guitar player. Has no big opinion of himself either which makes me like him even more.
What a great video and such a smashing bloke. He insisted on sitting with me at a Pink Floyd gig at the Rainbow in the 70s, coz I was the only other Londoner there and we were surrounded by some Scottish mates. I'd got a couple of seats near the sound mixer but Joe soon disappeared backstage where he got slightly sloshed in the bands dressing rooms ( very quickly) and returned with that beautiful smile he always has. Halfway through the brilliant (Dark Side of the Moon) show he said "my wife is singing up there", I asked which one is she "i can't see" was his reply. Not only did his wife Vicky have a great voice but their daughter Sam, who replaced her mum with PFloyd some years later, had a spectacular voice..... I had the pleasure of doing the stage sound with her on a couple of tours, meeting her guitarist brother Pete too, another smashing chap. What a lovely family. Joe was a HUGE influence on a whole generation, me too, and we will always be thankful for that. Rip Vicky.👍🇬🇧
Joe Brown - Fabulous top-line-professional artiste and a lovely gut to-boot! - I was honoured to have him 'produce' some of my-work in a Wellingborough Recording Studio. THANK YOU JOE. Thanks too, to your fabulous (sadly-deceased) wife, Vicky, and beautiful equally talented daughter Sam, who both worked with me on my ''Trucking-LP'' ... Jed Ford.
I'd never heard of Joe Brown until recently, so he obviously never had much success here in Australia. I recently stumbled across him on you tube and can't get enough of him. I'd love to see him in concert. A very talented man and a real character as well.
I went to see joe brown in Nottingham. I thought it will be ok honestly it was just amazing worh every penny hope he returns. Not just joe but the whole team...and i was surprised how many youngsters where there...brilliant gig 😊
I came across Sea of Heartbreak by accident online and now I can't stop listening to it. I play it more than once a day. It's just absolutely brilliant!
This song reminds me of a sunny Saturday afternoon in Upper Holloway, North London, on the radio back in 1961, and i thinking of Sailors coming home from far off places,
When you get paedophile knights, why would anyone want one of the meaningless medals? No honour as they give them out like smarties to nonces, crooks and establishment lackies
Come on! Joe is great as he is and doesn’t need such an “honour”. Today very much a pseudo-honour debased long ago and certainly by the elevation of yoiks like Jon and “lady” ! Ye gods! David Bee has been grovelling time long enough “for the sake of his “posh” “... Tell him he can talk posh his head’ll go through the roof!
Hearing this song stirred something in my heart, just as it did so many years ago. I always looked forward to a new song from Joe and the Bruvvers. So glad he's still out and about!
I mix music for pre game shoot around for girls' HS and college basketball and volleyball. I stumbled onto this cover of the great Don Gibson, and I will add this to my list.....got a good pace that would go with the tempo of pregame shoot around...a little different approach from the standard overly loud rap music one usually hears at said venue.
Seen Joe Brown a few times over the years, such wonderful musical talent. Where he scores over most is that he genuinely looks like he is enjoying performing.
If you were listening to music in the 60s, do try to go to a Joe Brown concert. His performances are absolutely spot on. The shows come over as fresh and enthusiastic. I don't know whether it's at Joe's insistence, but the sound quality and levels are comfortable, i.e. it's a strong sound that won't make your ears bleed. So much live music today is made to sound like an overblown railway station Tannoy, devoid of all musicality. Unless Joe has gone deaf in the meantime and cranked up the pain control, then you are assured of a rhythmical and musical experience. That'll be 2 free tickets please Joe.
Hi Pete You are spot on saw Joe just a couple of months ago at Tunbridge Wells not the best venue it has to said but sound was excellent ears were still intact!!
Peter Hanlon Spot on Peter! I saw Joe live back in the 90's and I recall the sound system was superb - my friend and I really noticed how good it was. And of course, Joe was amazing. Great show all round....
I am hooked on this video, since I discovered it a few days ago. And to think I never heard of Joe Brown, before! What a fantastic band and I guess I didn't realize American country music was that big on the other "side of the pond" I enjoy this very much!
If it weren't for Joe Brown meeting Eddie Cochran, there would have been no "Sound of Fury", no backstage jams with the Beatles (lessons to George Harrison) and no reason for other British working class kids to think they could be rock stars.
Sorry.. I just realised Eddie Cochran isn't really classed as "country music" but he played a lot of "American country music" on plenty of sessions and it was pretty much him who taught Joe Brown how to play American country music (and rockabilly)
@@alfsmith4936 Interesting how all the genre's of music that originated in the USA, in the 50's and 60's. B/C we were a "melting pot" of cultures and customs, and it magically all came together in the American South! Bands from other countries were influenced from USA and added their own ideas, they DID NOT invent it! All the credit goes to the music pioneers of America
@@alfsmith4936 Yes, he was Rockabilly. Actually the music did originated from country and Southern Gospel music and Blues as Rock N Roll did. Very fun times to be in the music industry, well except for getting addicted to drugs & alcohol. I'm thinking of the creative side. of the 50's.
Best cover I have heard on one of the best songs ever written and recorded. Had not even heard of this singer. All of the musicians nailed it, and the drummer is exceptional. The recording engineer did amazing job . Kudos guy, you did good.
Great song performed by a hugely talented artist. This is real class. Joe is a fabulous entertainer and his relaxed style is a joy to behold. Absolutely brilliant!!
My first LP played on my Dansette Record player circa 1963 when I was 13!!...was Picture of You.. Joe Brown's featuring songs like (obviously!!)Picture of You ,Thats what love will do,Hava Nagila(great instrumental) etc.Very much underrated performer and great guitarist but thankfully still with us!!
I love this song Joe and you and your band perform this brilliantly. I did a guitar vocalist in the early 80's. And sung this song and can't remember the original artist who performed it. Would so much appreciate it if you let me know. Would love to know if you're touring in 2023. Can't wait to see you. From Chris in Derby. X.X
Wow, I never heard of Joe Brown until yesterday - thanks to You Tube. Deleted most of my past favorite tunes and starting over again with Mr. Brown and his great band. Well done lads.
Yes he said that he was going to see his Daughter and her band and asked her how many were in the band. he got the shock of his life when she replied 50 he said that the band were very good. I would love to hear Joe play the fiddle a bit more. He's very good. I'm also looking to see if he is going to play any concerts in the Midlands in the near future.
i obtained the dvd of his show at liverpool two hours of pure entertainment for a guy aged 75 yrs 70 yrs when he recorded it what a musician he will keep me happy fo r a while ,////
i'm 22 and just knew about joe brown about a month ago, after lostening to a youtube artist covering his song. I love his voice, songs, and most of all his ukulele ❤❤❤ such a wonderful performer!
Great to see a young person liking the oldies and the artists of the day. I'm 63 and still think that I was fortunate to grow up in the 60's. Btw I also love today's music except for hip hop. Cheers
My wife and I saw Joe at the Palace Theatre Mansfield last Tuesday evening, we've grown up together both the same age, I've listened to his singing and fantastic musical talent as regards he can proberly play any stringed instrument on the planet, wish I could play my Guitar/Uke a fraction as him, and he still looks good better than his dad Marty Wilde Ha Ha, keep it up Sir Joe ( should be) I'll listen to you in my Dreams, God Bless, x
I'm now 74, but when I was at school I belonged to The Joe Brown Fan Club. He still looks the same. The hair style I always remember, that cheeky smile, the talented musician that he always was. Good on ya Joe !!
Finally, someone who does this at the right tempo. Good job Joe,
yes...see my comment below.
very nice mandolin work.
God bless Joe Brown as a great entertainer; named by George Harrison as the best there was according to him.
Great Don Gibson's song played beautifully.
A group of fine musicians, and this track is always on my play list..and one of my favourite sing-a-long songs as well. 😀😀😀😀😀
One of the greatest UK performers, definitely should be Sir Joe Brown.
Brilliant. Let's get Joe a Knighthood, he deserves it with all those year he has put into the music business. If anyone does, Joe Does x

Darn Tootin'. Great live version by Joe.
Great cover of Don Gibson's hit ! But, I think it was Hal David (B. Bacharach's eventual partner) who penned the song.
It was Don Gibson singing of this song when I first heard from the radio when I came to U.S by married to French American. All those heartache and homesick in the flower of my youth identify this song 🎵 ❤
One of the most underated performers of our times. I wonder if even Joe realizes how wonderfully talented he is !!!!

I have been so lucky to live through the greatest era of music . The 1960s to 1980s
Agreed. I was a 60s child but I benefitted from my parents' love of music. 😊
A very underrated musician. Thank you Joe for your music.
Loved Joe. Never felt he got the recognition he truly deserved.
you mean Sir Joe?
A national treasure. ☺
Great musician and a lovely man, makes you proud to be British.
Yes it really does !!
I’m there to ..seen joe a few times ,just like a fine wine ..
I'm an American but I am 58% from British Isles, my maiden name Smith and my mom's was brown, go figure!
Greetings from Ireland ! So true! Brilliant musician and entertainer . Lived in Birmingham in the 60's as a young boy Joe was one of my faves ...
Lovely song

I can still love his style at 88. His music gives me joy
According to wiki on this 9-8-23, he is currently 82, so you were pretty far off.
Love Joe, always so cheerful, and fantastic music, listened to his music for last 50 years or so. Happy times

Check out his version of " I'll see you in my dreams" at George Harrison memorial concert
If there is a knighthood going spare, they might give it to someone who's given so much to music in the last 60 years. God bless ya Joe.
It would be far more desired than a certain football working on match of the day
Or a certain has been footballer trying his hardest to buy one
I thought he already did have knighthood?
I totally agree good old joe
I went to see joe brown in Nottingham. I thought it will be ok honestly it was just amazing worh every penny hope he returns. Not just joe but the whole team...and i was surprised how many youngsters where there...brilliant gig 😊
SIR MARTY WILDE AND SIR JOE BROWN. TWO MAGNIFICENT B STALWARTS
I came across Sea of Heartbreak by accident online and now I can't stop listening to it. I play it more than once a day. It's just absolutely brilliant!
Best rendition of this song I dance to it every day
Have loved this special guys music all my life (I’m 72 going on 19 ) I could listen to him endlessly

If ever I want cheering up, I always come back to this gig. I suppose I ought to buy the dvd, LOL.
+Bernie Andrews I've lost count of how many times I've come back to this gig too.
I don't think there's one song that isn't performed to perfection.
If we have to endure Sir Cliff is it not long overdue that we had SIR JOE!!!?
It won't happen, Joe isn't holy Joe, he just plain old Joe Brown.
Load of old nonsense all those tin pot awards, Joe better without that. Sir Jimmy Saville, say no more.
When you get paedophile knights, why would anyone want one of the meaningless medals? No honour as they give them out like smarties to nonces, crooks and establishment lackies

Probably the best version I've heard, although another good one is by Roseanne Cash.
