Man the fact that the analogy that you made of it being a "mythical" and "legendary" item that was only heard of but nobody could find, was literally how it felt for me. The other day my Walmart had full stock and I was literally about to buy one right there and then even tho I actually had not that much money saved, decided to wait tho. Hopefully this PS5 out of stock mess is over
this reminds me of the amiibo crisis back in 2014 and beyond, there was such a shortage of most amiibo besides a select few, and if you did want a certain one, you'd have to fork over 10 times the amount of the original retail price to wretched scalpers
I only finally saw exactly one PS5 in stock at a store in person yesterday and even now 2 and a half years 'post launch' it's still $560 if you want the one that actually has a disc player. It's kind of insane it's still such a hard system to find and if you do it's still so expensive, which just makes it a hard sell if you could afford it (I can't but that's beside the point). I can understand the pandemic and inflation having a part in the problem, but at some point you'd kinda hope these things were a bit more readily available, as that would definitely help bring the price down, or at least it might for a used console.
to those people talking about "just follow the steps that sony told you to follow": there should not be _any_ steps. you should be able to just go out and buy it. and the fact that they kept advertising it during the shortages is just awful honestly i do plan on buying one in a few years, but it's cause i don't have a ps4 and would like to play more ps games in general, otherwise i would absolutely steer clear from it. huge blunder on sony's part
"The worst launch in gaming history." simply untrue. Did you not remember the the 360 launch? And the worldwide chip shortage affected all 3 console manufactures and other major companies. Even car manufactures were struggling. I also don't need to mention the Xbox Series console which literally didn't launch with ANYTHING.
The systems that both of you have described did also have poor launches. However, if you watched the video then I’m sure you understand the reason this system was especially unacceptable was due to the fact that it remained unavailable to actually purchase for two entire years with no hint at an actual solution. Yes the chip shortage during 2005 affected all of these systems, but that problem did not last for two - almost three - years the way that the PS5’s stock issues did. Also, specialized events such as someone being murdered on Black Friday trying to obtain a product is not a fault of the company that makes the product, if anything it is the retailer that sells it. I wouldn’t grossly group that very unfortunate and freak incident in with the launch of a system to use as a negative against the entire system. Finally, as was stated in the video: other systems have launched with poor options of games. But other systems did not remain this difficult to obtain for this long. If you don’t agree that this was the worst console launch than that’s fine; but you cannot bring up other points that were both already covered in the video and are not relevant to the actual topic for your argument.
It definitely sucked to try and buy one, but it was very far from the worst launch in gaming history. The launch lineup was actually one of the better ones; Demon's Souls was / is a masterpiece, and though it was short I thoroughly enjoyed Astro's Playroom (which was entirely free). Sony also gave you access to a bunch of top PS4 games for free. The value of the whole thing was insane. So it wasn't just a status symbol--there were plenty of reasons to own the system, and that's why so many people wanted one, not the least of which was a reprieve from the hellscape that was the 2020 pandemic.
I finally found one in a gamestop in november 2021. It feels like not that long ago. I can't believe even after waiting over a year, I've already had mine for a year and a half
My PS5 (Since January ‘22) is simply a Gravity Rush machine at this point because there’s no way in hell Sony will release that to PC. Especially when their true passion is as gone as Nintendo’s. Also a Spidey machine too, if we count those as well.
8:15 Just going to point this out Games that you mentioned that can be played on ps5 but can also just be played elsewhere -Dead Space -Resident Evil 4 Remake -Tails of Arise (never heard of this one personally but still found it on steam) -Hogwarts legacy I guess??? Can't really play that game with a clear conscience though -Jedi Survivor -Gotham Knights -Returnal (also never heard of this one) While yes the PS5 runs these games beautifully, you could just get a steam deck instead and play almost all of these games except for the few PS5 exclusives like Demon's Souls and God of War for example. While it wont be as smooth not only is the steam deck a handheld it also doubles as a computer, so that's a pretty big win in my eyes. I really do wish I had a reason to get a PS5 because it seems like a really cool console, but unfortunately the only PS5 exclusive I care about is Demon's Souls, but imo it's not worth getting an entire system over 1 game.
I have been interested in PS5 especially since I was a user of the PS4 for a good few years. But what I hate seeing on this console is the idea of needing to pay extra in order to get the best performance. I know that’s not for every game but isn’t it for a good amount of games that do that for some reason while compared to series X it’s literally just done automatically for free? I mean in general for someone who had an Xbox 360, the series X was just way more appealing to get but somebody who wants to build a library as well as exclusives would get a PS5, though buying full $70 games doesn’t sound fun at all. Also PS5 can’t play all PS4 games, it’s the same for Xbox but it’s really only for kinnect games other than that it’s able to actually play all the last gen games while some PS4 games either have bugs and glitches in them or don’t work at all.
That was around the time I got one as well. Amazingly I got one in a GameStop when I wasn’t even on the hunt for one, and while yes it is annoying how long it’s taken; I’m just happy to finally have one at all.
This was one of the worst gaming crisis of all time... IMO. Not only could no one find a PS5 but no one could the new Xboxes or a new ( or decent... if used) GPU...MAN gamers were down bad in late 2020- late 2022🙃
When I read "laughable and inexcusable" instantly I thought this would be about the utter putrid hardware design. I'm a FF diehard and FF16 looks crazy epic and majestic, but not even that game can get me to purchase that absolute shithole of a console. I guess most don't have as strong feelings as I do but just looking at the console is physically repulsive; 2.5 years hasn't improved that any. And it's even worse physically in person. If it didn't have those pointy corners that would solve probably 70 - 75% of my beef. Anyway yeah I guess you accurately summed up the fact that it was difficult to purchase.
I wonder, maybe they’ll make a PS5 Slim somewhere down the line that will make it more appealing to you? Do any of the other color variants help at all?
@@TheFlipsideShow When I saw the black-wrapped ones those definitely looked cool. But I just can't get past those spears they're using for corners that jut out obnoxiously. I was really holding out hope for a sweet slimline design but then the rumors of the stupid detachable disc drive just brought all my cynicism of modern gaming to a head and sorta crushed that. I'll wait 1 year for FF16 to come to Steam and then another 4 or 5 or 7 or 8 years for S-E to remove Denuvo poison from it. Still haven't done it for FF15 so I'm not holding my breath. Getting it for Xbox Series X who knows when is probably the most likely opportunity for me.
Fantastic video just like always brother, I’m so happy to see you continue to put out great content with new opinions and innovative structure in your videos. I didn’t even consider how the pandemic affected the release of the ps5 so that was a really good point, and I can totally understand the frustration of them being sold out everywhere. I had gotten a ps4 a little late into the game so I didn’t really feel the same yearning for the new console but I did see in person and online how scarce and unobtainable it was. Great job bro you’re doing great and can’t wait for you to pass 1000 subscribers and blow up and get the attention you deserve.
What's even the point of getting a PS five now? May as well wait for the six, we're like four years into this generation right? My ps4 Pro has held up fine.
There are many games coming to PS5 now such as Final Fantasy XVI and Spiderman 2 that warrant purchasing a PS5 to experience as soon as they’re released. This coupled with the fact that the PS5 is finally readily available to purchase gives plenty of reason to pick up a system now. Although yes, with how long it’s taken to get to this point the next console generation feels like it is much closer than farther so I understand your frustration.
My only real gripe with this video is the "advertising" point being made. Why should Sony have just ended all their advertising just because the console was sold out in most places? Is the company expected to just pull all ads and waste the millions of dollars they had already spent because a lot of stores were sold out - sold out largely because of the massive advertising campaign itself? Not to mention all of the momentum they had built in the months leading up to launch would have been killed. And then to use the excuse of "oh they're a big company, they should have had the resources to release far more consoles despite the global pandemic, the microchip shortage, the global recessions, etc. etc. etc." I think making these points would have been fine in a retrospective making fun of the PS5 launch, but these are all just really weird points to make in an angry "take-down" video.
Some people will do anything for clicks. Chip shortages were a real thing. Which affected all 3 major consoles, pc graphics cards, cell phones, and car manufacturers. Microsoft had nothing and still has nothing this day. Stop being such a drama queen.
I’m not sure whether you actually watched the video or not before commenting, because if you had then I’m sure you would know the biggest point being discussed in the video was the amount of time that the PS5 was unavailable. As I discussed, other consoles have had rough launches, and if you’ve read other comments I’ve even addressed the chip shortage. These problems were awful yes, but unlike the PS5 they didn’t last 2, almost 3, whole years to resolve. You’re hostile nature in comment and negative opinion of my video as well as your characterization of my content is fine, that you’re opinion and I respect it. But you cannot bring up something that has both been addressed and also is still not relevant to the obvious subject matter of the video as a retaliation.

Sega Saturn and PS3 had pretty disastrous launches. I remember hearing a news story of someone being murdered on Black Friday over a PS3.
