    Man! I wish I watched your video before I bought my tokay gecko. I’m in California so tokay geckos aren’t exactly a common lizard here. I bought one and the tallest enclosure they had was a 12x12x20.
    I got the following
    -Zoo med 40w nano dome lamp fixture (3.5 inch dome)
    -40w Zoo med nano basking spot lamp (it says daylight, heat, and basking on the front of it)
    -loose coconut fiber substrate
    -moss
    -water bowl
    -wood for clumping
    -plastic plants
    The store employee told me that enclosure would be big enough. And he also told me to set the heat lamp on top of the wire mesh of the enclosure. I did that and I smell something funny. Not sure if the ceramic has to burn off or what. It’s odd that I have to put the lamp on top of the mesh.
    Does this sound right?
    Amazing video
    Subbed and liked of course
    I appreciate all of the information
    It’s a juvenile is what they told me. Male.
    My house is normally 70 degrees F and does dip to 67 degrees F
    What do I do? You mentioned to have the map on for a certain amount of hours.

    • @ravishingreptiles
      @ravishingreptiles  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hey man thanks for the support! That store employ definitely did not know what they were talking about. Tokay’s grow pretty fast, he’ll need a much bigger enclosure pretty soon. Yes the ceramic releases a really foul smell when you first turn it on, you’ll need to run it for a few hours so the fumes can go away. Yes the dome should go on the mesh but the bulb shouldn’t be touching anything. As far as night temps, your tokay can handle 67 so don’t worry about supplemental heating at night

      Bro! You have no idea how much I appreciate you. Again, amazing videos!!!
      Yes, I’m pissed but I’ll invest in a HUGE enclosure for him so he can have a good life. Please let me know what size and brand you recommend and I’ll go with what you say. Looking to get one more tokay in the future.
      I’m heading to pet store right now. The lady told me I need a night heat bulb since my house gets too cold.
      But you are the professional. My house will dip to 65 at times as well. What is the lowest they can withstand without causing stress. I was actually scared it was going to die last night so I made sure the house didn’t get below 70 F.
      I’m buying a thermometer to regulate since the employee didn’t even tell me to get that. I told him I know absolutely nothing and I need to get every single thing I need.
      So I’m actually heading down to buy a uvb and night dbulb. Getting a dual nano dome. That’s what the lady recommend

    • @ravishingreptiles
      @ravishingreptiles  5 месяцев назад +1

      @@joemomma707 it’s consistently getting to 65 then yea I’d recommend supplemental night heating. They’re fine with cold nights every once in a while but not constantly. As far as how to heat it at night, avoid bulbs even the “black light” ones. Those aren’t good for reptiles. I’d recommend heat tape or an under tank heater on the back of the enclosure bc they shouldn’t be getting any light during the night. As far as enclosure, a 3x2x3 PVC enclosure will be the best thing you can go with. Any brand should be okay, in my opinion Toad ranch is the best (and that’s what I use) but they are a bit more pricey than others.
      Thank you for trying your best!! Unfortunately, pet stores are usually the worst place to get reptiles from :(

      @@ravishingreptiles thank you!! Heading to pet store to buy the night heating right now and thermometers. I wish I knew. I won’t buy any other ones from a pet store. I’ll follow your recommendation on that as well. I’ll look into those enclosures.
      Do they need uvb bulb?
