    This video is the best and most simple explanation of how to play country bass lines, EVER. If you are playing popular country music from 50s-90s, the concepts in this video are where the money is. You’re not absolutely boring, and you’re also not overplaying. Country music is about the vocal, so this is truly it!

    Alan... Great video.. as Always!! YES!!.... More Country, Blue Grass & Western/Texas Swing.. bass would be Great.. and Greatly Appreciated!! I'm just getting back to playing the bass, since I was 18 yrs "Old"..... will be 74 yrs "Young", one month from today (in June, 2023). I love your channel and your willingness to share your knowledge on the bass... you're very easy to learn from. I also appreciate the fact that you take your time, articulate very clearly... while clearly showing your fingering on the neck. I will have to search your site for actual lessons... it's harder when starting all over again at this point in life.... but your video's & tips, like this one, have been a great help and a real blessing to me!... but, I probably could use some actual lessons. Thank You!
    PS; I also like Country Gospel, and I notice that many bass players in that genre, use 5 string basses... is it Really necessary for Country Style Gospel... if, you know?? I already have a Long scale (Yamaha TRBX), a Medium Scale (Hofner - Violin body), a Short Scale (Gretsch), and purchased 2 "Ukelele" Basses, a Kala & a Hadean (Violin Body), because I wanted an Upright bass sound, and both of these really do that. I'm also trying to self learn Lap/Console Steel Guitars and Harmonica (Diatonic & Tremolo)...... Keeps me busy and "off the streets"! lol

    I was not a country music fan, but crazy about classic blues tunes. Learning songs and playing with friends it's a kind of love. Know the country music bass basics is vital. Country music walkups, turns, etc. really helpful to get these motions on a fretboard for blues tunes. At the end of a day I said, this so gooood! Deep, hearttouching resonancies.

So those of us that are just starting will find a lot more play along music a lot faster. Also a simpler playstyle like country will free up the mind to concentrate easier on things like theory and fundamentals. Mo fun sooner!

    Great lesson, thanks, but shouldn't your TAB at 6:40 be 5 on the E and 7 on the A, right? Going upper 5th off the E string...

    • @ebassguitar
      @ebassguitar  Месяц назад

      Yes, from memory I think I played the lower 5th there!

    I’m a Texan, you know I love this. Eagles? Country? Maybe what we used to call progressive country in the 70’s. Try some classic. Merle, George (Jones and Strait), Cash, Hank………

    Thanks - nice intro, and a good way into adding a leading tone to start to walk it up a bit! Oh, regarding the fifth for the Am on the E string - I personally think it doesn't hurt to use the open E for a 'fifth below' there, as it can give a great depth, especially if throwing in a leading quarter note into the next chord. Just a thought!

    Since I play in a rock cover band, often bands like the Eagles, Marshall Tucker, the Allmans, Atlanta Rhythm Section, etc., are called for...not sure southern rock is in the same genre as country rock, but we get a lot of requests for it...
