    I like to take my hammer drill and drill three holes inside the 5x5 post then hammer down some rebar I sleeve the post over the rebar and then fill it with concrete like a Masonary technique works pretty good.

    How will this setup hold up in wind, especially on a 50' run? Where I live we sometimes get days of consistent 20-25 mph winds with gusts 40-50 mph. Seems like I watched a video a few years ago where they drilled 4 holes through the concrete, then anchored long pieces of rebar through the holes into the substrate. After setting the vinyl posts over the rebar they poured concrete in the top of each post deep enough to cover the exposed rebar. Looked like a lot of work compared to your method and not sure if it was overkill. Any thoughts?

    Every time I sleeve over chaillink I use gravel or pea gravel it gives you a lot of wiggle room if they are not in line with each other like almost all chainlink fences.you can always cut up you scrap vinly to make post inserts. You should be screwing all your bottom rails in no matter what. High wind can flex it enough to pop them out even if you can't wiggle them.

    Around here there is sweat involved as soon as you leave the air conditioned truck. I have seen flanges mounted to concrete like that but electrolysis and rust always seems to take hold in a few years unless a rubber or asphalt soaked spaced is used. Vinyl fence is hardly ever used here but the steel or aluminum picket fences over galvanized frame is very popular. Prefab concrete fences are too, and for those you need to core through the concrete, There is a skid steer coring bit but it is slow and the core likes to get stuck.

    10:30 In non-builder newbie terms, what do you mean by if concrete is not a good surface to be bolting to, you should go through it?

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  Год назад +1

      If you're working with bad concrete (concrete that is breaking down / crumbling apart from itself) you will want to go through it. That would involve core drilling and then working in the soil below.

    Nice video, My niece has a house with fence posts already installed from a previous fence. The posts are not evenly spaced but close. I want to help her out and install a fence over the existing posts. Where do I get good quality fencing that I can cut to fit the spacing between the posts. The posts are already installed into a cement pad so they will be hard to remove. Pleas help.

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  Год назад +1

      The space at the bottom is all about measuring. You can leave yourself as much or as little as you want. If you're not on concrete you have to deal with the contour of the land as well, but you can still get pretty close.

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  2 года назад

      We wouldn't do it that way but different contractors have different methods. The longevity of your post is going to be determined by the quality of the wood post they installed over. If it's solid and there's no signs of rot you're probably ok for a while.
