So she needs to look out for herself
Random fun fact about the fight against Snowdrake's mom: The music that plays isn't its own file, it's just an effect played over mus_snowy. So if you replace that file with something else you can get the weird distortion effect on any file. The distortion itself is also random, so what you hear in game will likely be different from what someone else hears.

The fact that you can only kill Crystal feels really. intentional to me, as basically every player would feel great sorrow or guilt for her. Idk I can’t explain it
I agree, she feels like the most tragic and the most obviously in pain of the amalgamates.
@@HalfBreadChaos she’s also the most conscious. Sure, there’s Lemon Bread, who does sound like she has consciousness, but Crystal has the most.

It feels devastating to ever watch this. I wonder about its relevance given the important role of mothers / references to Mother and the important role of mothers.
There's something about this on the wiki, but indeed no footage. My personal theory is that she's so depressed, less effort is put into holding together (essentially the opposite of Undyne).
Yeah she isnt determined despite being injected with it, but the other monsters fused with her may be

I saw someone kill Snowdrake’s mother on a challenge called “Can you beat Undertale True Pacifist without acting?” And it didn’t just have footage of them killing snowdrake’s mother but it also was without any hacking or game save file editing.

Well they were monsters who were put through an experiment where pure determination was put into their soul which ended up distorting their faces and making them fuse with other monsters.
So maybe the determination has to do something with their inability to die? After all Undyne does melt in her boss battle during the genocide route, sort of like the amalgamates, possibly because she had a lot of determination that her soul couldn’t handle?

The only other time I can remember where we see "infinite" HP is during the Asriel fight. Where your determination is so strong that you can keep fighting and go below 1 HP.
This is probably one of the unstable side effects we see on the amalgamates because they can't handle determination. They always have full HP no matter what.
And even if they get to 0 HP, they just disappear, but then again have full HP

If I don't get false memory, killing snowdrake's mother won't give any difference to sparing her. The reason Toby set those battle stats are really weird
Probably because unlike the others she's way more depressed then angry and she's giving up so it would show her health actually going lower but didn't think someone would actually be able to kill her
@@jjsix6943 No, he definitely did the math. That crit leaving her on one pixel with the max possible damage had to have been intentional so she'd never actually die.

@@jjsix6943 Besides what Too Few Secrets said, setting killing stats for non-killable monsters is also really weird. For most other non-killable monsters, like lost souls and Asriel, editing the game to kill them will show the death animation of Aaron and usually result in the game being soft-locked.

With how her death and her spare are the same mechanically (and intentionally, as you pointed out), and with way her fight goes as a whole, its almost like you're not bothering to console her, but just push her out of the way or force her weak self to leave by attacking, without really killing due to her being, well, unkillable. Since, well, we get nothing for killing her either. Not one EXP.

Fun fact: LV 20 is actually worse than LV 19 in dealing damage. At LV 19, you fight with 36AT and 4DF, but at LV 20, even though the stats window says you have 38AT & 4DF, both are set to 30 when you enter a battle.
And the fun part is that neither actually get to ever use their stats

Короче, что на 19, что на 20 уровне ты свою силу не используешь, для тебя нет особой разницы, какая у тебя атака и защита.

The death and spare animations are the same for most, if not every enemy, so unfortunately no. You can see this when temmie gets x eyes after sparing
Fun fact! There is actual footage of Snowdrake's mom dying made by a guy named NovemberJoy, it's in his video called "can you beat Undertale true pacifist without acting?" And what he did is down patch and after starting true pacifist with the Undyne call, kill all the monsters in the core then do the same that you did

7 years. After 7 years someone finally killed snowdrake's mom. 6 years. That's how much time we spend without it.
It's actually possible to gain levels on pacifist by killing Mettaton EX over and over using a glitch.
I'm fairly sure that if you gain XP in a pacifist run it becomes neutral. You can kill a select few enemies that don't give XP and be fine.
@@cakecheese2895 iirc, pacifist counts your kills instead of xp, just like genocide. The reason you can kill Mettaton and still be on pacifist is because you're using a glitch to fight Mettaton after you've taken Undyne's letter, which locks you into the pacifist route. Normally, this would remove all encounters outside the true lab and the Asriel fight, but if you previously skipped Mettaton (also using glitches) you can still fight him.

Interesting how she drops zero exp, obviously Toby wouldn't code that, but could this potentially have lore ramifications?
I think she's the only monster with this many 0s for her stats. (attack, def, exp, gold... basically everything except her health is 0). Even Monsterkid has a 1 in ATK.

The "File x saved"; "File x loaded" in the top-left just SCREAM Omega-Flowey and I love that that's basically true and completely in-character in this case. Imagine if you could have a real conversation with Flowey and told him this; it'd be like one of those school playground whispers between kids.

this is important please get this to the top so he can see it. i discovered that the line "the gash weaves down as if you cry" can be seen if you go into castle town and turn off the dark world tag. you hear it from one of the jigsaw joes that replace the darkeners if you talk to them
Ah, that's because it's a placeholder for when you interact with something in a situation where the dialogue isn't properly set.
So in that case I'm guessing the room number (which is in the dark world) doesn't match the world's tag (light world) so because there's no valid option it uses the default (which is "the gash weaves down" error handler).
I take it that she still shows up at the ending with her family if you complete True Pacifist?
Probably. I doubt Toby would have considered changing the end cutscene in case a player kills a supposedly unkillable character on a supposed no-killing-possible route. Plus, the game still seems to treat her as spared no matter what you do.
I saw this first in a video of someone doing a "no ACT" challenge run on RUclips. Neat to see it again!

I haven't touched Undertale in years, and I completely forgot how cool the designs are for the amalgamates, especially Crystal. Kinda makes me want to give the game another go
Suggestion of similar nature. Is it possible to get level 18 in undertale on the latest patch? Highest I've managed is 17 with all fully angry loox, 16 glydes, only killing knight knights in CORE except for the final encounter where I do froggit/astigmatism/whimsolot for extra EXP, followed by warrior's path for greater EXP, and taking advantage of the kill counter to get a few extra fights (Extra loox and first froggit in ruins, for example) heard there may be optimizations allowing somebody to get 17 or 18 glydes, I think it would be interesting to look into.
Hey Bread, mind doing a follow-up video if you ever manage to do this in a pacifist run? I'm curious to see if Crystal's death changes anything in Snowdin after you go back at the end.
Without the ability to grind core monsters you can't get to lvl 2, so it would be impossible.
If he played on an older version or just cheated it would be possible tho

i always thought you could kill the amalgamations by throwing salt on them, like snails. but since theres no current canonical confirmation from toby that salt exists in the underground, they cant really kill them

Now you have to manually increase your attack stat so that when you hit an amalgamate it takes dmg and see if you can kill the others

Heres an interesting piece of info at LV20 your attack is set to 30 in battle (the same as LV11) unlike at LV19 where its at 46 (your attack is 10 less in menus)
