Weird thing is guns are actually a downgrade. In lore he runs faster than Bullets or has Chaos Spear same the Motorcycle it is entirely useless for him besides looking cooler
There's good reason for it, this trailer had nothing but quality. Even the editing was fantastic. I'm pretty difficult to please, but I have literally no complaints. I hope everyone at Sonic Team are proud of what they're making

Black Doom's last attempt to overwrite Shadow's own will was an attempt to avoid a fight to the death, because he didn't want to have to kill Shadow but couldn't let his other children starve.
The spear is classic Shadow from even before his own game. In sonic adventure 2 in multiplayer Shadow's attack was the Chaos spear, that that move returned in Shadow the Hedgehog in the true ending's final boss, the Doom Spear just seems to be drawing from a different source of power (Shadow's Black Doom DNA)
The chaos spear shows up in this game as well and shadow has it from the start it seems the doom spear is like a upgrade basically making it so you can hit mutiple enemies at once with it rather than one at a time
I'm worried that any appearance Shadow makes after this will just be mundane without these sick Venom-esque powers; for my money, this is probably the coolest he's been since he originally appeared in Adventure 2.
Not sure what they’re going to be able to do about it, they kind of shot themselves in the foot by making these powers tied to the Black Arms and Black Doom because I doubt he’d be able to keep using abilities connected to them when his entire aim in Shadow Generations seems to be eliminating Black Doom again. I feel like Shadow has to lose his powers when he beats Doom. Maybe I’m wrong or maybe he’ll find a way to harness them without calling on the Black Arms, but as of right now it seems like it could pose a problem in the future.
@@Aidan_004 Shadow is technically still a Black Arm. At least a part of him. The fact that they lean on that is cool, and should not be limited to them being alive. It's also a cool way to give him Chaos Spear without Chaos Emeralds or a Super form needed. Although, whether he needed them or not may or not be true in all media. In current years at least, he needs one to access Chaos Force powers, but he didn't always need to.
@@DrnMontemayor I agree it’s cool, though I doubt Shadow is happy about leaning on the Black Arms, and clearly rejects them at the end of Shadow by blowing up their comet, so it’d feel a bit odd for him to rely on their power moving forward. If anything I could see him transition into using chaos powers instead, because no matter how you slice it the black arms are a pretty definitive “dark side” and the way they frame Shadow’s use of their power in the trailer makes it seem both painful and unwanted for him and as though they’re granting them to him so that he can service their cause. Just makes sense with what the narrative is setting up for him to give them up later on in the story. I can see where you’re coming from though.

Shadow was created using Black Doom's DNA, but that doesn't have to define him, and it would be very in character for him to accept the powers while rejecting the Black Arms on the belief that these are an extension of himself rather than an extension of the black arms. It’s definitely a “Bowser’s Fury” type add on which is great. The game is looking very polished as well unlike previous releases like Sonic Colors Ultimate.
something super interesting about this game is that this campaign apparently takes place during the original generations, but features stages from forces and frontiers (a game shadow wasn’t even in??) which are from the _future._ super cool stuff there

I'm pretty sure in SA2 during one of the Sonic vs Shadow boss fights, he literally says "I'm the coolest!" So being seen as cool is something Shadow 100% thinks about.
...I'm assuming you've never played Shadow the Hedgehog like many of us millennials did. The Black Arms-looking baddies and Shadow's new abilities look genuinely cool and fun to play with. And...is that Metal Overlord!? Metal Sonic's final boss form from Sonic Heroes? Nice. Let's just hope we don't regress to Sonic Forces levels of simplicity with the level design again. Looking forward to it.

The problem with this fandom is everyone has a different preconceived idea of what a Sonic game "should" be, which causes a lot of division and arguments. About the Shadow having guns bit: That always struck me as odd, since, I'm pretty sure Maria was killed by firearms, so I would expect Shadow to be averse to guns in the same way Batman is. It's not a hard and fast rule, and giving Shadow a gun isn't automatically the end of the world or anything, but I think it makes more sense for him to dislike them.
According to recent interviews on the subject, Shadow is first and foremost a Pragmatist: He will use whatever he feels is necessary to achieve his goal, whether that means hopping on a motorbike or picking up a gun. People similarly thought it was strange to see Shadow working with GUN in Sonic '06, but at the end of the day, what matters most to him is fulfilling his promise to Maria: To protect the earth.

Shadow also didn't remember Maria in the game where he used guns. All he remembered was a brief snippet of where she got shot, but he didn't know who she was or anything because he had amnesia (continuing his plot from Heroes) so he didn't know what that memory was or what her connection to him was.
Arlo I really hope you give Act 2 of each stage in Sonic Gens a fair shake. The modern Sonic gameplay in Generations is my favorite part of the series and I hope you get to experience that joy for the first time!
I was hoping that they incorporated things like weapons and vehicles into the shadow portion. These doom powers are a really creative way to refresh and replace those mechanics
Happy to here Sonic has been doing it for you lately man. I really though Frontiers was an earnest effort at a 3d game so its nice to see that Sonic can at least be good.

I don’t get why people would talk about Shadow getting these abilities to get around not giving him guns when he’s had abilities like Chaos Spear and whatever in the past. It’s just an extension of that with Black Doom. But man, this game looks crazy how much more there is to this version. It’s always appreciated when games add substantial side modes that play with the original framework in new content like this or Bowser’s Fury. More like this in updated re-releases, please.
One of my Favourite things In generations Was finding all the different alternate paths Like In speed highway When instead of running through a loop I jump on the Rail or The helicopter for a boost Or In Seaside hill where You boost under a loop to get to a canon to skip at least 20 secs of platforming In green hill getting on the top rail in the 2D section. In Sky sanctuary Homing attacking all the enemies to get to the top route without damage.
Shadow doesnt need guns anymore? Shadow n e v e r needed guns. He never needed rocket launchers, smgs, motorcycles, hovercrafts, none of it. He just used all of it because he was playing halo at the time and thought it was rad and easier than walking. And thats why we should have the guns back. Shadow doesnt need guns. But he wants them. I rest my case.
I’m having the same strange feeling…I’m actually looking forward to a Sonic game. I can’t remember the last time that happened i’ve been mostly indifferent to him for years now.
I think frontiers really was the game this franchise needed. It absolutely set a new bar for the series and was the trial run that lead to something as cool as this. I actually have hope for the series now and genuinely we are close to an actual adventure 3 i feel like if they keep experimenting and finding playstyles for all these characters that work they could absolutely create a true adventure 3 and that is exciting.

Don't worry about not having enough time for all these games coming out in October. Sonic Generations itself was only about 5 hours long (maybe 8 for completionists), people will probably knock Sonic X Shadow Generations out in an average workday
I too, am very excited for Shadow. It really seems like they went all out. But i do think you'll enjoy the sonic parts an awful lot, Arlo. The original Generations felt absolutely exhilarating.
I wouldn’t mind if they gave Shadow a gun again. They gave Kirby a gun two years ago, so I think they could get away with it today. Especially if it’s a gun that doesn’t shoot bullets. Maybe they could give him one of those ink guns from Splatoon to go with his new squid form.
@@Glitchyy07why giving a chaos energy gun to the being genetically designed to harness and manipulate chaos energy the most efficient way possible, he can already make chaos energy blasts himself. That will be dope for a tech oriented character, like a chaos drive powered arm cannon for tails (something he used in prior games minus the chaos energy source).
@@ALloydRH it's the same thing, but now he's using his own energy and biological skills as a black arms, which are naturally attuned to chaos energy instead of syphoning chaos energy from an emerald or his own reserve as shadow can store a limited amount of chaos energy himself.
I'm cautiously optimistic because the last couple of ports with Sonic Colors and Sonic Origins were pretty disappointing, but it does look good and seems like the Shadow levels are a significant expansion to the base game.
Shadow actually used Chaos Bolts (which were just yellow lightning bolts) as his attack in the Sonic Adventure 2 Battle multiplayer mode, so there is precedent in Shadow not using guns before his own game
I honestly feel like I've come all the way back around to thinking Shadow is cool again. Like when I was a teenager I thought he was cool because he was dark and edgy. Then I got older and thought he was cringe for trying too hard to be dark and edgy. Now I've looped all the way back to him being awesome because he's trying too hard to be dark and edgy, but he's earnest about it and owns it with complete seriousness. You be you Shadow, don't ever let anyone change you.

The way I see it, Shadow getting these new abilities (expanding the backstory from his game in 2005 and connecting him closer to The Black Arms) feels like a necessity because Sonic got a slew of new abilities in Frontiers. This makes Shadow truly and justifiably take the title as The Ultimate Lifeform, as stated that he evolved to no longer need guns and can now rely on his own new powers entirely. Maybe if there’s a Sonic Frontiers 2, Sonic would square up to Shadow with these new abilities.
Really hyped for how this game is shaping up however I can't help but still feel hesitant to buy it full price. I think what will make or break me buying this game full price, is whether or not we'll be given the option to play as shadow in sonics campaign. If thats the case I'll happily buy it day one! If not I will wait for it to be on sale.
for me, Sonic X Shadow comes out the same day as Ys X: Nordics and that would make it a majestic day for me. Will prioritize the Shadow story for SXSG tho because I technically already played Ys X in japanese, I just need an english playthrough to get story context.

I'm pretty sure in SA2 during one of the Sonic vs Shadow boss fights, he literally says "I'm the coolest!" So being seen as cool is something Shadow 100% thinks about.

...I'm assuming you've never played Shadow the Hedgehog like many of us millennials did. The Black Arms-looking baddies and Shadow's new abilities look genuinely cool and fun to play with. And...is that Metal Overlord!? Metal Sonic's final boss form from Sonic Heroes? Nice. Let's just hope we don't regress to Sonic Forces levels of simplicity with the level design again. Looking forward to it.
If you've seen the gameplay circulating online, then you'll know FOR SURE that this isn't any where NEAR the level design of Forces. It looks like Sonic Team are finally finding their groove again.

The problem with this fandom is everyone has a different preconceived idea of what a Sonic game "should" be, which causes a lot of division and arguments.
I, for one, think this franchise is flexible enough to go in different directions while still retaining the core gameplay style and charm.
If you approach a game on it's own level, you'd be surprised with how much you'll end up enjoying it.

Which, it's fine to like SatAM/Western Sonic stuff...But that stuff is decidedly NOT what Sonic the Hedgehog is/is SUPPOSED to be like nor did the games EVER imply there weren't humans other than Eggman around. A characters' species doesn't make them worse.

About the Shadow having guns bit: That always struck me as odd, since, I'm pretty sure Maria was killed by firearms, so I would expect Shadow to be averse to guns in the same way Batman is. It's not a hard and fast rule, and giving Shadow a gun isn't automatically the end of the world or anything, but I think it makes more sense for him to dislike them.
According to recent interviews on the subject, Shadow is first and foremost a Pragmatist: He will use whatever he feels is necessary to achieve his goal, whether that means hopping on a motorbike or picking up a gun. People similarly thought it was strange to see Shadow working with GUN in Sonic '06, but at the end of the day, what matters most to him is fulfilling his promise to Maria: To protect the earth.
@@locustofchiron Shadow doesn't protect the earth for maria. Maria wanted shadow to protect humans. Shadow hates humans so he only protects the planet itself for his own reasons rather than for a dead girl
Shadow also didn't remember Maria in the game where he used guns. All he remembered was a brief snippet of where she got shot, but he didn't know who she was or anything because he had amnesia (continuing his plot from Heroes) so he didn't know what that memory was or what her connection to him was.
Shadow had no memories in his game so he jus used wutever seemed useful to him
Arlo I really hope you give Act 2 of each stage in Sonic Gens a fair shake. The modern Sonic gameplay in Generations is my favorite part of the series and I hope you get to experience that joy for the first time!
I was hoping that they incorporated things like weapons and vehicles into the shadow portion. These doom powers are a really creative way to refresh and replace those mechanics

I don’t get why people would talk about Shadow getting these abilities to get around not giving him guns when he’s had abilities like Chaos Spear and whatever in the past. It’s just an extension of that with Black Doom.
But man, this game looks crazy how much more there is to this version. It’s always appreciated when games add substantial side modes that play with the original framework in new content like this or Bowser’s Fury. More like this in updated re-releases, please.

One of my Favourite things In generations Was finding all the different alternate paths
Like In speed highway When instead of running through a loop I jump on the Rail or The helicopter for a boost
Or In Seaside hill where You boost under a loop to get to a canon to skip at least 20 secs of platforming
In green hill getting on the top rail in the 2D section.
In Sky sanctuary Homing attacking all the enemies to get to the top route without damage.

He just used all of it because he was playing halo at the time and thought it was rad and easier than walking. And thats why we should have the guns back. Shadow doesnt need guns. But he wants them. I rest my case.

I’m having the same strange feeling…I’m actually looking forward to a Sonic game. I can’t remember the last time that happened i’ve been mostly indifferent to him for years now.
I think frontiers really was the game this franchise needed. It absolutely set a new bar for the series and was the trial run that lead to something as cool as this. I actually have hope for the series now and genuinely we are close to an actual adventure 3 i feel like if they keep experimenting and finding playstyles for all these characters that work they could absolutely create a true adventure 3 and that is exciting.

The doom spears isn’t a thing that’s there to replace guns, it’s just an upgrade of an already existing ability for him: chaos spear.
The Doom Morph ability looks like the Splatoon squid form fused with that one TOTK Boss from the water temple

Don't worry about not having enough time for all these games coming out in October. Sonic Generations itself was only about 5 hours long (maybe 8 for completionists), people will probably knock Sonic X Shadow Generations out in an average workday

I wouldn’t mind if they gave Shadow a gun again. They gave Kirby a gun two years ago, so I think they could get away with it today. Especially if it’s a gun that doesn’t shoot bullets. Maybe they could give him one of those ink guns from Splatoon to go with his new squid form.
Maybe have them shoot Chaos Energy and call it Chaos Bullets?

That will be dope for a tech oriented character, like a chaos drive powered arm cannon for tails (something he used in prior games minus the chaos energy source).

I'm cautiously optimistic because the last couple of ports with Sonic Colors and Sonic Origins were pretty disappointing, but it does look good and seems like the Shadow levels are a significant expansion to the base game.
He never needed guns, he could chaos spear at any point. He didn't need any of the vehicles either he can literally out run all of them.

It should be noted that the Chaos Spear, the standard Chaos energy version of Doom Spears, has been around since Sonic Adventure 2 Battle.

I don't think I've ever heard such an accurate description before.
Shadow actually used Chaos Bolts (which were just yellow lightning bolts) as his attack in the Sonic Adventure 2 Battle multiplayer mode, so there is precedent in Shadow not using guns before his own game

I honestly feel like I've come all the way back around to thinking Shadow is cool again. Like when I was a teenager I thought he was cool because he was dark and edgy. Then I got older and thought he was cringe for trying too hard to be dark and edgy. Now I've looped all the way back to him being awesome because he's trying too hard to be dark and edgy, but he's earnest about it and owns it with complete seriousness. You be you Shadow, don't ever let anyone change you.

Honestly I was negative about this game, Sega threw Sonic into the shovelware bin for way too long, and tbh Im still a BIIIIIIT worried about this game but, Im starting to feel some small sliver of hope that this game will rock, just please Sega I want to enjoy this to the fullest, ill pay

The way I see it, Shadow getting these new abilities (expanding the backstory from his game in 2005 and connecting him closer to The Black Arms) feels like a necessity because Sonic got a slew of new abilities in Frontiers. This makes Shadow truly and justifiably take the title as The Ultimate Lifeform, as stated that he evolved to no longer need guns and can now rely on his own new powers entirely.
Maybe if there’s a Sonic Frontiers 2, Sonic would square up to Shadow with these new abilities.

Really hyped for how this game is shaping up however I can't help but still feel hesitant to buy it full price.
I think what will make or break me buying this game full price, is whether or not we'll be given the option to play as shadow in sonics campaign. If thats the case I'll happily buy it day one! If not I will wait for it to be on sale.

for me, Sonic X Shadow comes out the same day as Ys X: Nordics and that would make it a majestic day for me. Will prioritize the Shadow story for SXSG tho because I technically already played Ys X in japanese, I just need an english playthrough to get story context.
