11:36 Honestly...I don't understand all this obsession the fanbase has with the idea of a Classic Shadow. The idea as a whole is pointless, since Shadow doesn't really gel well with the Classic series, not only that but the whole appeal of Classic Sonic's existence was that he represented the early era of Sonic. Classic Shadow is, for lack of a better word, cheap fanfiction. And this is coming from someone who LOVES Shadow, which is precisely why I don't like the idea to begin with. I don't think creating a Classic Shadow does any service to the character, specially when for years we knew him as we do today. Would it feel natural to use a Time Travel plot to create a Classic version of Shadow when the appeal of Gens originally was bringing back already existing concepts people loved from the Classic Era? It's kinda like the idea of an ''Adventure Sonic'', it doesn't really have any real purpose to exist other than shallow fanservice and it makes you wonder if it's really worth it to go all the trouble.
Makes sense Omega would show up in Shadow's side. I assume Rouge will, too. Get all of Team Dark in there since they weren't in the original Generations.
i really love the idea that The Black Arms are some sort of branch from The Ancients from how both of them are literally sea creatures from The ancients being made of water and black arms being scale creatures and fishes. For the pop-in discussion, the cause of the issue is Sonic Team doesn't create/purchase LOD meshes or textures for a lot of their stuff. That's when you're far away from something and instead of rendering it at full resolution, the game swaps it for a low poly version that looks terrible up close but fine further away. Sonic games don't tend to have this and go from zero to full res. The issue? Your game will crash if you don't bring the render distance suuuuuper small. That's how Frontiers happened.
I have a question for that then, what about the Titans in Frontiers? They have a render distance that spans the entire island. You can see them from literally anywhere. I get that they’re gigantic character models and the kinda need to have a MASSIVE render distance, but how could they not make the draw distance for other enemies or structures at least twice as much as it currently is. They were used by Eclipse the Darkling, essentially Shadow’s “brother” who is basically a replacement for Mephiles before Infinite and created to be his foil like Metal Sonic. His appearance is what Shadow would look like as a pure Black Arms.
That would be the ultimate "Shadow letting go of his past" story for Shadow. A choice of changing the history of the attack on Space Colony Ark so that Maria survives or the existing timeline. Him ultimately choosing to let Maria go after realizing how different/bad changing that historical event would be. Any fan of Shadow would be happy to see him let go of his past in such a manner.
I kinda love the implications of this side mode. Because if it takes place at the same time as Sonic's venture then we know Shadow gets a Chaos Emerald at some point, runs into Sonic, then just decides to fight him. I hope that means we'll actually get a boss fight against Sonic, something we haven't had in a mainline game since 06.
The Doom Wing and Doom Surf powers seem to be the bat and the saucer from Shadow The Hedgehog in motion. I'm definitely happy about that. Oh and maybe we should just call the other Shadow game, Shadow 1.
Pop in will never be the valid critique that it's made to be. The biggest budget and top rated games have plenty of noticeable pop in as well IF you actually put the same time an energy to notice than as you do in Sonic games. TLOU2 had plenty of noticeable pop in when I played it and I didn't go looking for it. Additionally, this will forever be most noticeable in any open-level ended game, whether they're openworld or open levels. That's kinda all I feel like saying tbh.
Sounds like an excuse. Pop in still happens but frontiers was special in that platforms would pop in like 5m in front of you. And for what? Frontiers doesn't look that good and I played on pc, max settings and guess what? Mods increase the view distance and it runs fine. Seems to me that sonic team was just lazy
All of these abilities aside from Doom Morph seem like they're made so we can have Shadow the Hedgehog remastered. Better projectile, melee combo, flight instead of mount, ray instead of hoverboard, even having Shadow blink for his homing attack now.
Being honest, I’m kind of accepting to the fact they’re leaving the base gens portion of Sonic Generations untouched from a narrative perspective. Sure I’d far rather Sonic talk about deep cuts from his past games like Emerl or Chip but for me that’d just alienate the original experience by changing it and I’d far rather Sonic mellows out in the next game and brings up past experiences rather than trying to edit his personality in past games with the trademark Ian Flynn “hey you remember X Y and Z?” writing method from Frontiers when it comes to callbacks to previous events in the franchise. I also think Shadow’s story in the game being so rich in narrative contrasted to Sonic’s “keep moving, reminisce later” attitude during Gens story gives a far better contrast in their personalities and how they handle similar situations. If they had to change the narrative at all it’d be nice to have Modern Sonic bring up callbacks from his adventures to Classic Sonic in the end cutscene before they return to their original timeline though.
While my "if this isn't in the game I'll have questions" boss choices would be Mephiles and Sonic (and maybe Infinite), my wild card pick for a boss Shadow could fight against would be King Arthur or the Dark Queen from Sonic and the Black Knight. I think the Storybook games are close enough to standard Sonic games to count, it comes from the same "dark age" as Shadow's game and 06, and even if Lancelot doesn't count as Shadow appearing that's not a problem as seen in Chaos Island.
An idea for the radical highway stages are that it isn't its own stage and all of the stages go to radical highway at their own point and have their own versions of it.
@@gaminganimators7000 no, it's just that your comment made me remember that, with one exception, all characters that almost or did kill sonic were all heavily involved with shadow.
I really wonder if these new powers were actually inspired by Venom. Maybe not the abilities themselves, but the look of them. Because during Kishimoto's time replying to people on Twitter, a fan did recommend he check out Spider-Man Web of Shadows, so... It's entirely possible he looked into more than just that. Of course it's also possible that this idea evolved completely separately, but Sonic and Spidey are two of my biggest hyperfixations, so let me dream okay-
i dunno man, [PROTOTYPE] could've also been a possibility for inspiration. Shadow's Doom Powers look so veiny and moisturized i wouldn't be surprised if one of these games got used as inspiration
@@kaxcommentssomethingREAL Prototype and WoS have extremely similar vibes and may have influenced each other iirc, so it's possible? I just know that Kishimoto said he'd check out Web of Shadows. These do definitely feel more like Prototype tho, especially in the way they're used, so I could definitely see that being the case. Though, it's all kinda pointless speculation as they're never gonna confirm anything. It's just neat
I rather have Classic versions of Amy and Knuckles pop up in Sonic's campaign. And yes, Classic versions of the rest of Sonic's friends. Aside from Cream, Big, Rouge, Omega, Blaze, and Silver.
Love how they are Showing all of the New Unique Powers Shadow is manifesting while looking Badass with Symbiote/Spawn Powers, I’m surprised Omega is in this, we see Chao Island which Opens a lot of Possibilities, and I didn’t Metel Overlord to Return and that makes me wonder if Mephiles will be a Boss in this? Although I’m hoping Infinite is a Good Boss Fight, if not then Maybe Don’t Bring Him Back.
Honestly I’m sticking with the digital deluxe edition, I need a sonic art book to add to my collection of game and movie art books but honestly the terrios skin and extra level are two things I can’t go without. On a brighter note I love shadows new powers, him basically doing symbiote stuff and really leaning into his black arms routes is something I didn’t know I needed.
For the altered cutscenes in Sonic Generations, they could be altering the story slightly in order to accommodate for Shadow Generations since that campaign is taking place at the same time. Along with adding more Chao in the background to put more emphasis on the new Chao missions. Either way, that new trailer has me super excited for Sonic X Shadow Generations. The Shadow gameplay looks really fun. And seeing Metal Overlord again as a returning boss is awesome.
Sadly, most companies don't do demos nowadays because that's sometimes counter productive for them, unless they think the demo is flawless and can truly atract customers in droves, the will probably not even bother.
Actually, the live and learn riff was here since the original version of Supporting me in SA2 (i just checked) It is just less noticable... i just diiscoverd that over 20 years later...
It looks like they might lean in harder to the vocal level/boss themes this time 'cause at this point we've seen two bosses that had vocal tracks in their original battles, and in the likely event they use "The Supernatural" for Act 2 of Space Colony Ark (and possibly have Shadow fight Knight on Chaos Island), that's already way more vocal tracks than Sonic Generations has. Also be really interesting to hear how they remake the more ambient music style from Sonic Frontiers into an action stage theme. ...and if they *have* remade "What I'm Made Of" I probably will give in and pay extra on Steam for the version that comes with the mini-soundtrack...
I'm not sure where the fandom idea of Black Doom being able to mess with time came from. Do people seriously think those two flashback levels in Shadow 05 were actual time travel?
It would be cooler if instead of just a remake with new stuff, it's instead Eggman looking back at some of his old plans he did then seeing the Time Eater plan and him realizing how better he could've been and basically reusing it, cause new stages for sonic to go through, like a mania stage, a forces stage, etcetra
Ok so as far as stages, they were originally fan voted choices so stages like Spagonia didn’t make it because that’s just not what fans voted for. But I really hope that the SXSG adds more stages to base Generations, maybe even add stuff used in the 3DS Generations. I really don’t want to see a Classic Shadow. I don’t understand why so many people want it when in a few years they’re gonna end up hating it and saying it that it messed up the franchise. So I purpose instead of a short, pot belly’d colorless eyes version of Shadow I think it would be much cooler to have him face off against an alternate timeline version of himself from one of the bad endings of his own solo game as compromise. It keeps the time travel stuff in without completely changing Shadows backstory and meddling with the timeline more than what’s already been tampered with.
I honestly think this started as a sonic Frontier Shadow DLC that then got reworked to accompany Sonic Generations and that's why we see stuff from Frontiers in it
This game looks more like what I want from future open zone games. It shouldn’t be a replacement for action stages pushing them to the side like in Frontiers. This seems to make them more equal still putting emphasis on the stages while having a really cool explorable hub world.
It's nice to hear someone talking about Frontiers that isn't just shitting on it constantly. Yeah, it had some problems, but I quite enjoyed my time with that game. As a sonic fan from almost the start of the franchise, I'm excited for GenerationsXShadow. I'm... not going to go overhyping myself up, though. I've been burned too many times in those 35 years (my god, I'm old...) but hey. As long as it's as good as the original Generations was, then I call it a win. Though I do wish they would do something for people that already own the original since it really is just Generations+ but such is the state of the modern video games industry.
I mean the black arms concept could always be explored alot since they're literal aliens from space, and they dont get mentioned much outside of shadow the hedgehog And also black doom
Personally, I know they won't do it, but IMAGINE if they had shadow go back before his time, and somehow mess with classic sonic setpieces or, hell classic sonic's story himself! Just intrudes on sonic in space fighting eggman on the death egg maybe, or during the doomsday zone somehow, that would've been a RAD introduction to shadow's part to incorporate classic elements that could easily reuse assets. I doubt it though, just imagining how cool it would've been for a tutorial or first stage to be set at the end of S3&K.
Sonic and shadow tend to be more like earlier versions of Ken and ryu. Where Capcom essentially gave you a reskinned character. Sonic adventure 2 did try to give shadow more enemies as well as sonic 06. Giving Ken a different play style from ryu is what made Ken so memorable. Same with shadow. Sonic team just finally got out of their own way fortunately. And maybe borrowed a few ideas from Sonic fan games in the process.
I think that the second shadow will be "hero shadow" they'll do both moralities again as routes also emeral deserves to be a big part of this since he'd get maria flash-backs since they were close and than just break down
14:50 Bruh, does this even look like Chemical Plant to you? 🤨 It's more akin to the Egg Fleet or Final Fortress from Sonic Heroes, albeit a flooded version of the location, and those towers in the background have the Red and White color scheme instead of the ones in Chemical Plant.
Just as an FYI with the CE, the game itself will ship at launch, and the CE contents are scheduled for July. And the skin, Gerald Journal, and Reversible Cover are confirmed to be included in this set.
I'm so excited to see Metal Overlord and the Black Arms (and a bunch of the other stuff that never gets remembered) get some love. Also really cool that they're making the white space 3D.
The only thing I’m wondering is that what are they gonna do for Sonic we haven’t seen any Sonic gameplay like is the gameplay gonna be the same as generation or will it also be New and different
the eye thingy where you upgrade shadow seems to look like the lions holding the hourglass in Devil May Cry 5, with the powers looking like they are from the series prototype
i think the poppin in is just terrain loading and npcs also i hope it just takes energy or is a normal move like the moves in unleashed cuz i dont want a capsule just to fly
Honestly, after the whole sonic colors remaster crap, sonic superstars crap, the dismantling of potential future mania projects, the half finished rush job of sonic frontiers, and seeing that 2D section; I think I'm happier being a spectator for this game despite loving Sonic Generations
i don't get why no one seams to realize the original supporting me has live and learn in it, it's not a generations exclusive i mean it's in the exact same spot as the gens version
I'm curious if they're gonna change the fact that Classic Sonic was younger Sonic to Sonic from a different dimension? That was always a dumb retcon imo.
I don’t like how fans keep constantly wanting a “classic Shadow” it doesn’t exist and if you have to jump through hoops to want it happen just speaks about it. We don’t need 2 Shadows. That would just piss me off because it would just be rehashing stuff from base generations. Shadow is his own character. He is a foil to Sonic but ultimately, he is his own. He doesn’t need to be a copy and paste. With these doom powers you can tell they’re trying to separate the distant further and further from Sonic.

TLOU2 had plenty of noticeable pop in when I played it and I didn't go looking for it. Additionally, this will forever be most noticeable in any open-level ended game, whether they're openworld or open levels. That's kinda all I feel like saying tbh.
pop-in was absolutely a valid issue in frontiers
Sounds like an excuse. Pop in still happens but frontiers was special in that platforms would pop in like 5m in front of you. And for what? Frontiers doesn't look that good and I played on pc, max settings and guess what? Mods increase the view distance and it runs fine. Seems to me that sonic team was just lazy
@@Sydney_Angelyt Cool strawman, which doesn't affect or change my point.
i think the pop in enemy is actually Omega
Frontiers stole from generations. And now generations is stealing from Frontiers. 😂
Mephilis has to show up in the game, he is Shadow's ex after all
it's funny to see how shadow baddies always drag sonic to vent out frustrations with him(usually a beating) about their problems with his edgy rival.
@@carlostejeda4341I think you replied to the wrong comment but I agree
A Black Knight stage would be great. Maybe with a Sir Lancelot fight. Let Shadow re-enact the faker scene with an actual faker
I absolutely love the way the Doom Blast is animated. That final shot before he finishes off the enemy is so sick
And seeing Metal Overlord again as a returning boss is awesome.
i really wish people didn’t datamine demos so we could play this right now
Sadly, most companies don't do demos nowadays because that's sometimes counter productive for them, unless they think the demo is flawless and can truly atract customers in droves, the will probably not even bother.
4:51 Man, I can’t believe you called Omega an enemy.
Also HOLY CRAP! OMEGA IS FINALLY IN SONIC GENERATIONS!
4:50 That’s not an enemy.
THAT’S OMEGA!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
The hype is real.
Let's fucking go!
I honestly think this started as a sonic Frontier Shadow DLC that then got reworked to accompany Sonic Generations and that's why we see stuff from Frontiers in it
That purple stuff in chaos island is actually the road that the Squid robot creates.
He rides a little stingray. Cute.
Biolizards moving gills are just freaking uncomfortable looking, seeing a modern day Biolizard looks soo cool
I mean the black arms concept could always be explored alot since they're literal aliens from space, and they dont get mentioned much outside of shadow the hedgehog
And also black doom
Making 3D stages for boost games is *expensive* since there is so much stuff, and you blitz past it in an instant
Hopefully shadow generations has rival battles
If Sonic & silver were rival battles in shadow generations it would be amazing
If the game simply released with a Bluetooth Dreamcast Controller as a pre-order bonus for like $100 I'd get that in a heartbeat.
I think that the second shadow will be "hero shadow" they'll do both moralities again as routes also emeral deserves to be a big part of this since he'd get maria flash-backs since they were close and than just break down
14:50 Bruh, does this even look like Chemical Plant to you? 🤨
It's more akin to the Egg Fleet or Final Fortress from Sonic Heroes, albeit a flooded version of the location, and those towers in the background have the Red and White color scheme instead of the ones in Chemical Plant.
4:51 that’s Omega Pup.
Reworked cutscenes
Big the Cat joins the party
(Hopefully Ray and Mighty too and why not Fang, Bark and woodpicker as well)
daddy shadow
×_×
Mommy Metal Overlord
Get out
Literally
Doom morph looks to be reusing code from the drill wispon wisp ability
Just as an FYI with the CE, the game itself will ship at launch, and the CE contents are scheduled for July. And the skin, Gerald Journal, and Reversible Cover are confirmed to be included in this set.
15:00 it is chemical plant recoloured to look like final fortress
17:42 What's the name of this remix of isolated island? I hear it a lot but haven't been able to find it
I'm so excited to see Metal Overlord and the Black Arms (and a bunch of the other stuff that never gets remembered) get some love. Also really cool that they're making the white space 3D.
People keep talking about Metal Overlord however no one's talked about how we might get a What I'm Made Of remix like Open Your Heart.
Pup!! We’re back!
The only thing I’m wondering is that what are they gonna do for Sonic we haven’t seen any Sonic gameplay like is the gameplay gonna be the same as generation or will it also be New and different
I hope my boy Silver gets a bit more love in this game though I highly doubt it.
TELL ME YOUR SECRETS! HOW DO YOU MAKE A 25 MINUTE VIDEO ON A 1 MINUTE TRAILER?!
These powers have me even more hyped for this game!
the eye thingy where you upgrade shadow seems to look like the lions holding the hourglass in Devil May Cry 5, with the powers looking like they are from the series prototype
i think the poppin in is just terrain loading and npcs also i hope it just takes energy or is a normal move like the moves in unleashed cuz i dont want a capsule just to fly
That isn't Chemical Plant where you fight Metal Overload. That stage is Spaceport from Sonic Forces.
Spaceport is one of the Chemical Plant stages.
Honestly, after the whole sonic colors remaster crap, sonic superstars crap, the dismantling of potential future mania projects, the half finished rush job of sonic frontiers, and seeing that 2D section;
I think I'm happier being a spectator for this game despite loving Sonic Generations
Ouch, rip Omega
meh just give him the gun back
i don't get why no one seams to realize the original supporting me has live and learn in it, it's not a generations exclusive i mean it's in the exact same spot as the gens version
pup they are fighting metal over lord on the egg fleet but its crashed into the water or something like the carrier in sa1 it is not chemical plant
I'm curious if they're gonna change the fact that Classic Sonic was younger Sonic to Sonic from a different dimension?
That was always a dumb retcon imo.
Maybe ther is a fanwork exploring shadows grief?
Finally someone said Emerl and not "Emeral".
