Good job! I'm not sure the various gaps were that nice off the assembly line back in the day.
I doubt they where too
Mock up... make it gooder before paint!
Yup way more gooder and even more bestest with orange Mountain Dew to keep you going
Always amazed by your craftsmanship. You’ve probably been asked this many times but I’ll ask again. If you were to build this car for sale what would you charge!
Good question. Depends on if I have to find the car as well or just do the work. If you figure $50 an hours @ 800 hours plus parts 25-30k then other stuff like paint, sand paper, welding supplies and so on $80,000 range plus a car which could be 5-15k. Keep in mind that $50 is lower than most shops average too. That is why when someone says $100,000 for a rebuild is kinda about the norm.
Now there is cheaper options like just clean it up and knock the rough off and getting it mechanically sound and a shinny paint job on the outside and not do a nut bolt overhaul. You might be to cut that coat in half.
And there you go! Easy as pie. Another simple, to-the-point vid! Funny, even on the original, undamaged lower valances, the plastic park lamp fillers are a bear to work out. Guess it's due to the twisty nature of the lower valance.
The lower valance if not bolted into place is very flimsy, I accidentally bent one in the middle while moving it in the garage. All the more reasons to test fit them
Unless your daughter has been painting your nails (no judgement)...that whack on the thumb must've really squeezed some orange dew out of you.
Great outline of some quick tricks. Can't wait to see this one hit the prime and block stage.
All part of playing cars, I think I might actually bleed OMD too. I drink way more than I should lol
Love the sanding block as a fulcrum for the door twist, definitely gonna use that. Thanks as always for adding to our knowledge with your tips and tricks.
You bet! I have used that and a chunk of 2x4 works good too.
I absolutely agree with you you need to fit everything up and not just once a couple of times great video brother 👍
Thanks buddy. It doesn’t add that much
Time but the results after make it worth the effort 💯
I like the door tweak tip! Where 2 panels bolt together like the valance to fender, sometimes if you over break the flanges, when tightening the bolts, it will pull that gat tight. What you did works well too. Thanks for the tips Jon.
Yes it does! The thanks for sharing that is what it is all about.
Anyway to get a hold of you? I have a 1967 Firebird you might want.
Facebook, @vinyl village garage. I dare not put an email address on here, it either gets removed or the email gets buried in spam afterwards. Learned that one the hard way.
If more people would learn when they go to car shows or even buy a classic they have no ideal the panels were bodo-filled to make the gaps look good well when there's an inch of filler on the door edge that means stay away from the car it wasn't done right! Thanks for showing the correct way to line up gaps a bit of filler is ok but it's not meant to use to make gaps an inch thick.
Exactly filler has its place and part of a restoration for sure. The worst part is seeing a car that doesn’t get any gap work with the metal or body filler. It’s so important to mock things up and worth the time.
Thank you for the tips...great content as always.... thanks 🔧🔧👍
No problem 👍
Nice work. My hood scoops for like crap too. They are pot metal not the fiberglass so not sure how I can make them fit better.
Good question. Pot metal could be filed to fit but it might end need to split the difference with body filler on the hood and inserts then sand smooth. As much as I have played with these birds I have only messed with one factory 400 hood and it still had the factory inserts that fit well. I can only image the replacement ones are less then ideal hood and inserts
I really like the way you were able to twist the door to bring the top in. I have exactly the opposite problem though. The door is fitting great at the fender and has good gaps along the rocker panel. The bottom of the door is lining up nicely at the quarter panel, but the top is too far in. Is there a similar trick for pulling the top of the door out, or in the alternative, lining up the top of the door and moving the bottom in? I'm a little bit concerned about pushing on the bottom of the door, since it isn't as reinforced as the top, Thanks for any help and advice you can give!!
Yup same process put a rubber block or soft material so not to damage the paint in the top of the door jamb, then the I use my shin against the bottom of the door leaning in then also with my hands pull the top of the door out. This normally get the job done.
@@VinylVillageGarage Thank you so much!!
I have a 67 Firebird convertible I want to see if she wants to buy it
Hard telling.
Using a little piece of plate steel, instead of the spreader, would have prevented that dent.
Thanks!
John excellent vlog sir!! 👍🏽
Much appreciated! I can count on you almost like clockwork 😎
Thanks for the helpful tips
No problem!
Great video! Really good tips
Glad you enjoyed!
Looks a whole lot gooder!
Thank you!
Great how-to!
Thanks!
It's amazing what just a little push, pull, or clamp will do. Good work. You are moving forward at an outstanding pace! God bless.
Thanks 👍. Can’t believe I have been on this car only 6 months and it’s almost ready for paint and it’s drivable as well.
Cool 💪😎
Thanks!
Outstanding video on the gaps and fixing them. Kelli has become a serious gap checker when we go to car shows now from watching your videos. 👍
Once you get the eye for it you see all sorts of interesting gaps and panel alignment creativity.
👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you 😎
I see the heater on the wall, why no AC? 😔
The owner didn’t want a/c on this one. He said it’s a convertible he would not use it enough to make it worth while
@@VinylVillageGarage I meant for in your garage.lol
@FE428Power oh yeah. That would make me very spoiled if did……🤔 how to make it work
@@VinylVillageGarage ductless mini split unit
@@FE428Power if I made it that comfy out there I would never want to go to work or back in the house. That actually sounds like a great idea
Definitely, more gooderful!
