I'm glad Robin got to do his own stuff during this era. He was so talented in his own right and perhaps it was good for the group as a whole, to experience being solo artists. This has a good dance beat and can still get my foot tapping or my head nodding. Great choices this week Chad thanks x
You're right that Robin was all about keeping current and was obsessed with being successful. When they hit the doldrums in the early 70's the band tried to keep him from seeing the audience if it wasn't full. He encouraged the "disco" sound because of the sales (although he didn't feel it was disco but R&B). In the 80's he went with the Europop sound. Some of the "Europop" seemed a bit contrived or overproduced for me but I did like some of it. I think his best solo work was his last, "50 St Catherine's Drive" and I wondered what he might have done if he was still with us.
Agree about St Catherine’s Drive and about Europop. There’s a lot I like but after awhile it all starts to sound the same to me. Which totally sounds like something an old person would say! But I am old! 😂
But it showed he was paying attention to what was current and what people wanted, especially in Europe. Since nobody wanted the SNF style "disco" falsetto stuff anymore he adapted.
@@Zlata1313 - True. He was always aware of the public trends, and a walking statistician. "The SNF style and falsetto stuff" had worn out its welcome. Just as they had to change their style in the 70's to keep abreast of the times, they needed to drop it sooner than they did and it derailed their career by over saturation. Robin said they could easily have released the follow up LP to SNF later than they did and as a result the immersion of that style created a backlash. What I find confusing is why that backlash never happened to groups like the Beatles who also dominated for years.
@@susieq9801 I think because the “disco” backlash wasn’t just about the style of music. It was about racism and homophobia as well. The documentaries out there on that subject are really great and delve deeply into how and why it happened. I don’t think there has ever been a backlash against any particular type of music the way there was against disco.
@@_Beth__ - Absolutely agree. Discotheques existed previously but were most popular in black and gay clubs. How dare white, straight guys do that music? They felt they were doing R&B and claimed they didn't even know what disco was. Robin said you can dance to a lot of music but that doesn't make it "disco". Disco gobbled them up, not the other way around. The dress of the time turned off a lot of guys who didn't think it was "macho" enough. Metal came in to make those people happy campers. When anyone is popular people think it's not cool to like them. ABBA was another group not everyone would admit to liking but look who endured! Being OLD, I've seen many trends in music come and go but never saw a backlash like the one that hit the Bee Gees. I was a teen in the 60's and The Beatles were everywhere but there was no backlash because THEY were too popular. What made disco worse was the appalling garbage that attached itself to the trend like "Disco Duck". Although The Bee Gees had good melodies and lyrics for the most part, they were lumped in with the garbage. Personally, I was a fan of them in the 60' but the overused falsetto style turned me off. I dropped them for a few years until they returned to a style I liked more.
I've loved this song ever since the first time I listened to the album on which it is! I love the steady, upbeat music and Robin's always outstanding, beautiful vocals!❤🔥😍
Right!! MAURICE EVER, EVER were whit ROBIN & BARRY , help them at all they needed!! ROBIN and Barry EVER request THE talent of MO!!! ...MO was really the BIG BROTHER, a human beeing generoso and humble..I believe that with Andy too, close to Barry...MAURICE were INDISPENSABLE and very, very adorable as Brother...RIP DEAR MO !!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for the reaction Chad, always nice to hear the Brothers individual talent occasionally. Still love them together, so glad that they did get back together after the split. Miss Mo, Robin, and Andy, but we are still blessed with Barry being with us all still. Thank you God for that.
Thanks for reaction, Chad. If you really feel like listening to an 80s song, I recommend "REBECCA" from Robin's album "Secret Agent", 1984. It doesn't get more 80s than this. You can also find the song on my channel.
Remembering is a very good song. Also the singer sung his song and life am i waisting my time, sing slowly sisters. Thank you Chad for your love to these amazing brothers and your nice and some times funny reactions. You are great!
This is a great album! I remember buying back in the 80's. My favorite solo song from Robin is much later, I believe early 2000s, called "Kathy's Gone".
Thanks a lot dear Chad, Good song and powerful vocal rendition par Robin. But according to my taste this track and "Remedy" are by far ranked at the end. So my favs of the album "Walls have eyes" are # 1 "Someone to believe in", # 2 "Gone with the wind", # 3 "You don't say us anymore", # 4 "Heartbeat in exile" and # 5 "Like a fool".
But it's not a "cover". They never released it, they just added it to their concerts because it was a huge hit for him particularly in Europe , #1? In Germany. His brothers just sang back up live and clearly the arrangement was updated somewhat
@@Zlata1313 - I couldn't figure out where the idea of a Bee Gees "cover" came from either. The group also on occasion added "Saved by the Bell" to their set which was also definitely a Robin solo.
You're right. I've seen them perform it on the concert video. It's also included on the Tales of the Brothers Gibb collection. It's the concert version. I prefer it.
I agree that Robin was trendy and sadly did not get the same attention as Barry. All three brothers deserved equal accolades.

Love this solo album--his “look” too!
Mo worked with Robin on most of his solo LP's.

Hi Chad
I enjoyed this song, never heard it before, Thanks
as a solo artist he was the best to my opinion
Thanks Chad! Another great reaction. 😀
You're looking great Chad
👌👌👍

I quite like this one. I've not delved into Robin's solo work much so its nice to hear it. Thanks.

I love the song Juliet, but I prefer the Bee Gees cover over Robin's solo of it.
