I owned a flashed 08 GTI for about 5 years. Wasn't nearly as powerful as this. Stage 2 REVO tune, downpipe, cat-back exhaust, and upgraded the suspension. But let me just say, that was one of my favorite cars. I paid it off with only about 50K miles on it, sold it for a good price and immediately regretted it. I loved the car. Such a comfortable and pleasurable car to drive. Awesome daily driver and for the price of a ECU tune and an exhaust system, it was approaching nearly 300whp with nothing done to the motor or the tiny K03 turbo. That tiny little turbo provided instantaneous torque.

As the proud owner of a MK4 VW GTI w/ a 2.8L 24v VR6 in it, I absolutely LOVE the fact that they ripped the 2.0L direct injection turbocharged engine out of it and threw in a boosted 3.6L 24v VR6.. It’s just one more example showing what a badass platform the VR6 is...
I totally understand the RUclips profit margins might not be worth it, but I definitely miss these full feature length pieces. Keep up the great work, bro!
That is an awesome car. I'm not a fan of DCT's nor am I a fan of VW's, but this is a fantastic car and I'd own it as a one-and-only car in a heart-beat. It looks like they really did a good job of making this car a jack-of-all-trades-master-of-all type setup. From a car you can take on a road trip to a car you can take to the track. Massive props to these guys - I can only imagine how much this whole setup cost...
This is probably the fourth time I've watched this because, well, I just love this car...and the sound. With that said, I think it would be a nice touch if you utilized those sweet video mics to get that raw, spine-tingling sound from the cars you DRIVE. Food for thought - you could call it "sending off with a symphony" *queue intense throaty exhaust sounds*
I mean my vr6 was awesome after I turbocharged it. My 1.8t on the other hand, is garbage. 300hp on basic tuning, but from what I've seen 400hp would burn a hole in my wallet. And the mk4 isn't even a good cornering car either to make up for its lack of power. These new tsi's are pretty crazy. At least in the Audi. 500hp on stock everything. They just love boost.
@@fukkinkana Can approve that with my GTI Clubsport MK7 (seen at my channel) same engine, same turbo (stock) No 4WD but sends 100% power to front, have lighter chassis than Golf R. More nimble, Downforce on front fenders & back wings & made for the track.. Check my lil show video! 👍

I'll get a golf for sure, only question is whether the gti is enough or if the r is overkill. I've heard both from owners and reviews that even the regular golf tfsi is pretty good fun. So in other words I am super confused, I am afraid that the running cost and reliability will have to decide in the end, because it'll be a daily after all to replace my c class.
VR6 is not a V6. VR - Vee Reihen - translated loosely to English is - Vee InLine -. Just like an IL-6, there's only one block and one cylinder head. Each cylinder block is bored one after another at 15° for the 1st. Gen or 10.5° for the 2nd. Gen to form a V formation in the engine block. This shortened the block, crankshaft length etc. Shorter crankshaft length, therefore less bending moment vs IL-6. Like the IL-6, VR6 has 7 crank throw bearing vs 4 for any V6 engine. Like the IL-6, VR6 is even firing vs V6 that can either be even or odd firing. Only the 60° and 120° V6 have even firing. A 90° V6 with a split crank pin has even firing and 90° V6 w/o a split crank pin has odd firing.
"To form a V formation in the engine block" So it's a V6. All that stuff you're saying about being similar to an I6 means nothing because in its base form the cylinders for a V and are most definitely not inline.
V6 cylinder block is a V form with a valley in between. While VR6 cylinder block is staggered 6 with no valley. A V6 has two cylinder heads vs VR6 one cylinder head.
+//S POWER It's still the same argument. How do you guys look at this engine and think "this isnt a V6 Does it have a lot of similarities to an inline? Yes Does it form a V with its cylinders? Yes There's a reason Volkswagen calls in a VR6. It literally means V-Inline 6 cylinder. Arguing that it isn't is ridiculous.

@4:51: The 7-speed DSG out of the TT-RS or your Tiguan AWD is a wet clutch unit (DQ500). Dry-clutch 7-speed DSG is DQ200 and it is not designed to handle more than 250Nm of torque or be paired awd layout.
What a tasteful little hot rod! I wish more people made clean sleepers like this. It would be cool if VW made something this cool, but after the emissions scandal I doubt that will happen.
+hellisin666 only thing is it's a drag car (the one-trick pony as Matt would call it). The Golf would probably destroy it around a circuit given its much better suspension design...but that is still one beast of an E30 and indeed in a straight line I think the Golf would be in trouble.
Just fantastic! I wish they would state what it costs to build? How many 7 speed TT gearboxes are floating around? What about the V6 engines? Maybe an R 2.0 with a Stage II or III tune with around 400-450 hp would be equally enjoyable. My 2015 GTI with 352 lb's of torque is such a blast to drive I cannot tell you. About 100 more hp and torque would put me in heaven, for around $40-45K.

I'm falling back in love with /Drive again.
Did he just say 200mph in a golf?! Good god that must feel insane!
Probably actually feels stable and composed. hahaha
200 mph with control and finesse beautiful
Right. Not trying to be a lil baby, but, that's too much speed in a boxy, short wheelbase car.
I've done 270km/h with my mk6 2011 R... with wrong temporary wheels in the back in a trashy road.
I can tell you that this monster is stable.
I currently have a 2013 GTI with K04 and other supporting mods, and so far I have done 163 mph and the car is unbelievably stable.

downside 3, over 150k for this package.
Canadian Dollar or US Dollar?

can probably build the 4pot to 800hp for like $20k but more lag and doesnt sound as nice.
Holy shit!

No

Still taking care of San Andreas with your homies?
Hitlers birthday!!! Yeeepy
The production of the new /Drive videos is absolutely gorgeous!
There is a german tuning company called HGP who have tuned a golf R to 750hp, too
HGP is partners with HPA. It's probably the same package.
If you played fm2, it wasn't hard to do that with enough funds. Same holds true in this video

As nice as that sounds, the Golf R with its turbo’d 4 pot has more torque than its predecessor the R32 ….
Golf R32, 3.2 V6 (2008):
Torque 320 Nm 236 lb-ft
Golf R, 2.0 4 cylinder turbo (2012):
Torque 350 Nm 258 lb-ft
350>320
+Big Ron This may be true, but its alot "easier" to get 700hp out of a 3.6 than a 2.0, and still make it reliable.
They used a 3.6L VR6, not the 3.2L VR6 that came in the R32. A 3.6L VR6 makes 385 Nm (284 lb-ft.)
385 > 350

+Tommy1198S Your lying it's a pin stripe that produces 200hp...

loolz
What a tasteful little hot rod! I wish more people made clean sleepers like this. It would be cool if VW made something this cool, but after the emissions scandal I doubt that will happen.
Nice video and nice car! Would love to race it with my 4WD BMW E30 turbo :) 800hp / 2770 lbs ;)
+nissejarnet thats crazy
Your E30 would eat this thing alive
Just check his channel. No BS there
+Harakudoshi904 nope...his e30 is a beast...
+hellisin666 only thing is it's a drag car (the one-trick pony as Matt would call it). The Golf would probably destroy it around a circuit given its much better suspension design...but that is still one beast of an E30 and indeed in a straight line I think the Golf would be in trouble.
i love matt. I'm glad tuned is back. this is my favorite segment. Spinelli is also awesome. Though I miss his hair. I recently cut mine too.
Spinelli's hair. Matt doesn't and hasn't had hair in a while...
Its not a v6.
vr6
+JimmyJ2J It's a single head V6, the pistons are in a V configuration.
JimmyJ2J so it is a V6
ive watched enough of matt to gather all the information of the video, from his laugh of the first pull in a car.
Copy of the HGP Golf from Germany
+TheVranac87 Just what I wanted to say. Curious what they will do with the 7th generation.
I was thinking the same! I prefer the HGP one though, the exterior being even closer from stock.
+TheVranac87 yes same
***** didnt know,thanks
should see boba's motoring golf 1 and 2 with 1.000 HP. from germany those are insane, and eat this HPA ft720 for breakfast :)
Can you guys please start producing your videos in 1080p 60fps or better? Love this channel!
Nah I'd invest that money elsewhere
/Drive IS BACK IN FORM. THANK YOU!
NEARLY "Mainstream" in germany HGP started this trend
Hpa and hgp are one in the same. But hpa started first
+dipstik subaru nope hgp did this kit
+Crushonius I mean he talks to the builder of the car, hpa
dipstik subaru the enigenbay looks the same search HGP i think its a cooperation
+xCobi it may be a cooperation but this one was built by hpa
I imagine the front end must push quite a bit. The 3.6 is fairly heavy with a cast iron block.
That's what I was thinking too. Too bad there's no aluminum block version.
dude stands like a goober
Hmmmm. How much does all that tuning go for in USD, and can it be done on the 2015 S3 or 2016 RS3 hatchback?
could you guys like show the gauge , instead of yelling "ITS SO FAST !" OR "ITS OVER 9000!!!! "
Amal Vajdan somebody would go to jail
So it's not a golf... lol what's left? the frame and the body?
Damn shame
+Ben Jamin "Damn shame"? Please, tell me you're joking...
EminentLine you're joking
Ben Jamin Not this time.
+EminentLine maybe next time
This car is the best thing that ever came out of Canada since maple syrup!
740 horsepower, und soo praktikal. love it.
What is the name of the soundtrack being use in this video @ 1:23 ? =0
Oh I had no idea a VW Golf had to be tuned to have such horsepower...
That is one fast lease car! Very nice job.
