    Hi Brian and Kelly, I have followed your channel for many years as you built your brewery and moved to a new home and built a new brewery in your basement. Very fun to watch. While watching you I have been working on plans to build my own Pub Shed and brewery. The Pub Shed externals are finaly build. I am working on finishing the inside with fun rough wood working. I hope by this summer to get my electric brewery working and have a lot of this fun summer with friends. I hope to see you brewing again. I always enjoy watching you and Kelly during a live brew session.

    2:04 Great video. I just learned this and thought I would share. There are two different gallons imperial and US. An imperial gallon is about 20% larger than a U.S. gallon. That is probably why there is a discrepancy from your flow meter and the markings.

    • @ShortCircuitedBrewers
      @ShortCircuitedBrewers  Год назад +2

      My meter is accurate to US gallons. I've measured it by weight. So the markings are actually off.

    I didn't read all the comments. Just from when I watch other videos with this type of system. Maybe recirculate longer before pulling up the basket, similar to vorlaufing, if able. This may help with less particles in the boil. I'm thinking of getting an all in one system myself. Cheers!

    8:30 ha I did the same trick blowing down the recirc pipe to unblock the pump on the Klarstein Mundschenk, I believe the pump inlet sucked in a hard hop pellet. I think it might be best to turn off the pump while adding hops and stir to dissolve them before turning pump back on. I'm gonna try that next brew.

    Although I didn't see a bunch of red flags this does make me want to stay with the propane/kettle/cooler mash tun brew system I have. I hit all my numbers, make good beer. If it ain't broke don't fix it. But these nice shiny all in one systems are tempting. Great video as usual.

    Thank you brian, best video/review I’ve seen on the system. I really want to like it but I’m still not convinced. I think you were a little too nice on your review! (It’s ok, good for you). So do I have this right? MASH efficiency 59% on a very moderate grain bill, Lots of grain bits in the boil? That tells me the mash basket is a crap design… whirlpool addition clogged the pump? Holy crap that’s a huge downside! The best immersion chiller out there is MAYBE compatible because it sits on top of the element? Dang!
    Again I really want to like it… but I don’t see it performing any better than a standard brew bag, false bottom type of system anyone can make.

(I have over 40 batches on .just 2 or 3 batches bad or weak that were my fault should have used rice hulls) I jump to my 20 gallon kettles when more or big or imperial is called for. I am looking for something in-between like 8 to 14 looking at the big brewzilla at more beer on sale now. Is there a larger version of this ? There is a lot I like about it. Might be a naive question, but I’ve always poured sparge water over the grains to hit target volume. In this set up do you use a starting volume to get you there? Also it seems the pump isn’t that strong or the mesh filter didn’t keep out particles that well, is that what you found?

    • @ShortCircuitedBrewers
      @ShortCircuitedBrewers  Год назад

      Yeah basically I did a no sparge method. You can do that in your brewing software setup. I'm pretty sure the issue with the grain is that the mesh is too coarse. 👍🍻

    Thanks for the review!

  • @160Brew
    @160Brew Год назад +3

    8:40 if you shut the pumps off before you throw in the hops, and leave it off for about a minute, the pellets will break up. Then turn the pump back on and the pump and/or hoses shouldn’t get clogged. I’ve seen this happen where whole pellets get sucked in the hose/pump and expand rapidly and cause the clog. That being said, I plan on sticking with my 3 vessel propane system. 😂

  • @tonylamartina6729

    Great video Brian. After watching this it makes me happy that I went with the Spike Solo 20 gallon. I like being able to see the entire system as it recirculates. That has always been an issue with those all in one systems. If there is an issue in the middle of brew day its harder to diagnose where the problem is because everything is sealed up with covers. I like knowing that the I.D. of my hoses are bigger and that the pump I am using has enough power to push hops and other sediment through it. In my case I use the Riptide. Great piece of mind knowing that the pump is very powerful and that I can quickly and accurately diagnose an issue if one came about in the middle of brewing.
    Love all the videos. Keep them coming.

    SS seems to make very nice stuff. Everything looks super well out together. Not sure if I would switch from an anvil. The recirculating tower seemed very nice. No clamped hose or anything to flip around. I’ll see how you progress before making a final judgement. Thanks for doing the dirty work Brian. Cheers from out east.

    @craigherron243 Год назад +1

    Another great video, for the price point and the quality SS are known for they seemed to have rushed this (😂) to market, even though they say they have gone through numerous trials. The fact that the holes are that large and the pump clogs with a hop load that would be considered minor these days is a concern. I’d hate to see how it handles an IPA hop load😳

  • @marklpaulick
    @marklpaulick Год назад

    Wow! Thanks for the video, Brian. The pump clogged after 1 ounce of hops? I will be running far away from this system.

    • @ShortCircuitedBrewers
      @ShortCircuitedBrewers  Год назад

      The basket was a little bit of PITA the husks do get kinda stuck in the holes. I sprayed as much as I could, then let it dry over night and then the all wiped out easily. The kettle was easy enough. The trub filter was no problem. 👍🍻

Maybe the instructions say to fit the hop filter after the mash is finished?
