- Once in a while I enjoy getting out with an old 35mm SLR film camera and running a roll of film through it. The sounds of these mechanical wonders, coupled with the easy pace of landscape photography, is a recipe for relaxation. So relax as I load up a Minolta X700 with 400 speed color film, and attach a 50mm lens. Then, join me in the woods to experience the way photography was before the digital revolution.
In the video I am not speaking much until it's time to pack the camera bag.
The Minolta X700 35mm SLR camera was introduced in 1981 and was one of Minolta's top-sellers until it was discontinued in 1999
Usually I really am not a fan of male ASMR but yours is really soothing. I love your videos of cameras because of all the little mechanical noises :) keep up the good work!
This video is super relaxing
Thanks. When you stop to consider what it took intellectually and physically to invent, manufacture, ship, and distribute an item such as a camera, it's easy to appreciate and take care of it. Thanks for watching and for the tip on the Sony NEX:)
This really makes me want to bust out my old SLR camera that's been sitting in a closet for quite some time. I believe it still has some film in it. While cell phones and digital cameras are nice in that you get to see the picture immediately, and get rid of the ones you don't like, on the spot, there's still something about having your film developed, going through the images, and getting excited about getting those couple really good shots.
You know, out of all the people and channels I've subscribed to, you are the only one I check for new videos every day. Good job! :)
I love photography as well. I took up analog photography again a few years ago and finally saved up enough for a Leica M3. Among taking pictures I just love the feel of a mechanical camera in my hand - the sounds, the feel. Thanks for the video.
Thanks. Glad to see you're still hanging around.
Beautiful equipment, beautifully maintained...well done.
Ah my grandparents have this buddy and I used 4 rolls of 16+ year old film they had laying around. I need one of those cameras. And I can take a speedbooster and pop the lens on my camera and get a super fast aperture manual lens. I love film cameras and the lenses are awesome and pretty affordable if you get em used.
I can't believe this! I was thinking, not ten minutes ago about this camera of yours while taking some photos with my own (SRT100X), at the same time wondering whether you we're ever going to show us you using it. And then this pops up in my subscription box! :O Relaxing and interesting at the same time!
It’s been a long time this was the first asmr video I ever watched
It looks like you got some great shots and I gotta say that you a very talented photographer with an amazing eye
This makes me think about how modern technology has taken away some of the pleasures in life, and perhaps replaced it with additional stress. I remember the excitement of picking up recently developed photos and having them on-hand for viewing (perhaps in a album or in a desk drawer). Watching this makes me miss that... thanks for sharing!
You know you are the best ASMR video producer. You remind me of my grandfather your voice its very relaxing I always fall asleep :)
The man of many talents brings us another gem of a video! This is just great. :)
Most any store will have the battery you need for the Minolta X-700. The owners manual says to use two S-76 batteries. These are small batteries that look like watch batteries. An equivalent battery is the LR44 and that is what I use because it seems every store has them. Get two. Hope this helps.
I softened a little toward the Vikes during the time they had Favre but don't spread that around;)
You have a drawer for everything. You are so organized and your items are always so pristine. I really love your videos and I'd be excited to see a video of you drawing with a fountain pen while speaking softly about something.
too cool. i dig the film. you always put so much time into the videos you make, and it shows.
Excellent video, sir. Cameras make some fantastic sounds, and you handled it with great care. Can't wait to see more from you!
Your channel is best ASMR channel on youtube. The only one that makes me sleep like a rock. Your voice is great for ASMR. Do you whisper, speak normally or speak a little lower?
Yes! Yes! Yes!
New video!! Thanks!
I haven't touched one of these since HS..thanks for making it into an asmr video.
Every thing are 70 ,80 ,from music,song,movie ,disco,rock n roll,jazz,classic ,are best,camera too.
I'v got 2 of those. And several Minolta lenses. 50/1.7 and 50/1.8, 28/3.5 and 70-200
informative, relaxing and great visuals. you are by far my favorite asmr video maker. looking forward to going through all your back log of videos.
At last! I love seeing your camera videos. I don't know a damn thing about cameras, but these videos are almost inspiring me to learn.
If only you knew how many rechargeable batteries have come into and out of my life and how many are in my life now. Glad you like the video:)
Great Video! ...wish my roommate stopped snoring...
Another fantastic video love the scenery and the idea behind this.thanks
Our Deputy Headmaster piloted a photography course in our last year at school back in the 70's. It was popular amongst the girls too. We all managed to learn all about film processing, composition, theory and such and i'm sure that we were the exception at the time. DSLR's don't capture the essence of photography, nor do they look half as cool as the quality SLR's of the day. They tend to look like plastic dustbins in comparison to my Canon 35mm as well. What a chillin' vid, well done.
I am a starting in photography and with a €200 camera I sold a picture for €250
What a nice video! Especially with my good old X-700 I still own. I used it for over 10k of pictures and it always did a great job.
I used it with a 48mm adaptor and some Zeiss lenses for macro photography as well.
Nice to see this camera being used and maintained very nicely.
I was very fortunate to buy a Minolta X-70 today at a garage sale. However, I do need to buy a battery for it, but don't know where to look.
Excellent. I own a couple of Minoltas too. I see you use the Program function. I personally prefer Aperture priority, which makes it easier to play with bokeh and depth of field. Makes it possible to shoot my X-500's too (X-570 in the US), which is at least as good as the well-known X-700.
If RUclips existed when I was growing up I would know everything.
what a serene shot
Amazing video , I think with digital cameras you end up not thinking as much about what your doing clicking away rather than setting everything up and thinking about the shot. Hope no one saw you , you will get branded as the crazy guy who talks to his camera :-) keep up the great work mate!
Can I request something? Are you able to do a video of you talking about anything you like but at the same time clean some items and dust them off with your soft bristle brush? It's so relaxing when you do that! Thanks in advance if you do it :)
Yes. Most any department or drug store stocks 35mm film. Thanks for watching:)
Fantastic video, Photography and ASMR perfect combo
Yankee Zen. Capturing the sound of one hand clapping with hobbies.
i love all your cameras! i have a pentax k-1000 which was my grandfathers :) i love shooting 35mm , you gave me awesome ideas , of what i can take photos of. XD
Still a great one.
very nice pics too......fall is asmr season.....fall asleep yuo know? :)
audio quality seems to be at its best........well done
I love your camera collection!! I have a 35mm SLR manual camera that I use for my photography class. This is also very relaxing(:
You are the very definition of gentlemen
That is weird stuff! Hang onto that old Minolta SRT and thanks for watching:)
Thanks! Hard to compete with the ladies though.
For general snapshot photography I would use 400 speed color film.
That was a great video! I predominantly use Digital but I have used film. Where was your location in this video? That trail was beautiful!
You should invest in rechargeable batteries! They save on the enviornment and always handy. :) Great video, as always.
xx
What kind of filter did you put on there? Polarized? Thanks, great video.
Thanks! Glad you liked it. Did you notice my cat at the end?
Ahh this is so relaxing. Where do you live? This pacing is vastly different from when I'm shooting. I do Concert work in LA so this is wonderful
Thank you sooooo much :) I will go to the store as soon as I have some money to get the batteries and some film, for the X-70 which film would you recommend I use?
Thanks. I appreciate that:)
Great video. Though I personally shoot an A6000, I use a Minolta 58 f1.4 and couldn't help but cradle the pair as I watched your video. This video simply makes you want to go out and shoot.
+K. Obirikorang a-6000 is a nice camera. I wouldn't mind having one. Thanks for watching:)
You've got mad style my man. Cool video very relaxing
Perfect timing! Thanks!
Thank you.
I did! Your cat is a beauty! I would love to see an ASMR video about all of your pets if you ever get a chance. :)
Ha! I wanted to reply with a comment about it not exactly being the time of year for garage sales, but I can see from this video that you live in a much warmer place than me. It would be a tough job having a garage sale when the temperature is so cold we get PSA warnings!
Where can we see your photos? Do you post them on any social media platform?
The only camera I have ever cried for (yeh you heard me) is the Minolta X700...I woke up one day and found it just wasn't working anymore. I still own a lot of film cameras - film is amazing.
How many cameras do you have
I have x2 Canon Ftbs (including a rare black one), an olympus 35-rc, a Contax iia rangefinder, a rolleiflex 3.5f planar tlr medium format camera... @@Rick-nc6nd
Hello. I just picked up one of these cameras but for some reason, I can't push the lever back to advance the film. There is no battery in the camera is that the reason or is something mechanically wrong with it?
There are two possibilities that come to mind. 1. There is film in the camera and all frames have been exposed and therefore there isn't any film left to advance. Rewinding the film will solve the problem. 2. The camera is broken. Do you have the user manual for the camera? If not I'll send you a link for one.
Thanks for your quick response. I'd much appreciate a link to the manual. There is currently no film in the camera. I removed the old film that expired in 1997.
I am all new to SLR so please excuse me if I am missing really obvious things.
Anthony, here's the link to the camera manual.

Anthony B. I dont if by now you were able to figure out what was wrong with the camera but you should definitely add batteries. This happened to mine when i got it put new fresh batteries and it started working
Is it possible to use your photos as Desktop Wallpaper? i love it
100% pure camera pornography...
Amazing!
I envy your collection! So far the only film camera I have is a Pentax Super Program that I got handed down to me.
+pastryshop charms The Pentax you have is very comparable to the Minolta X-700 that I like to shoot. Happy shooting:)
You should do a fly tying asmr.
You have alot of hobbies my friend.
First off, i thought the Maxcum 7000 was Minoltas first AF camera. Second, I'm having trouble deciding between the X-700 and the SRT 202. Can you please help?
Cj Ani It's been a while since I made this video. The Maxxum 7000 was Minolta's first autofocus SLR, released in 1985 I believe. A lower model (Maxxum 5000) and a higher, professional model (Maxxum 9000) were right on it's heals, being released a short time afterward. What did I say was Minolta's first autofucus camera was? I may have missspoked. The X700 is a manual focus SLR and suceeded the SRT 202. Both the X-700 and SRT 202 are great cameras, but the X-700 I think would be the more capable camera, especially when it comes to metering. Srt is a full manual camera isn't it? The X700 has some nice automatic features and the batteries are readily available. X700 weighs less to I think.
The Minolta X-700 is the more "Modern Camera 1982-1987 build with better "Electronic Red-LED TTL Light-Solid State 100% Accurate Meter" than the comparable Minolta SRT 202 which is an older Camera 1967 to 1974 older Minolta "Electric "NOT" Electronic but only "Battery Electric LED TTL Light Metering which is "NOT" as accurate as the "Solid State "Electronic TTL-Light-Metering of the more Advanced Professional Minolta X-700 which also uses "Minolta MD (Medical Doctors.) Ultra-Sharp "MD Minolta Multi-Coated Lenses and ED(Low Dispersion Glass.) Minolta MD Medical-Science Minolta Rokkor MD Lenses of "Science Accuracies Designs of Minolta-MD Rokkor Supreme Lenses" with the exclusive Minolta X-700's "Green Mode for "Program" mode for those learning to use the "Automatic Mode for Minolta X-700 Single Lens Reflex Cameras with "Electronic Red LED TTL-Solid State Light-Metering Systems"!!!!
aww i was hoping you were a vikings fan D: well lets not have our football rivalry interfere with how we think of eachother :) again great job with the videos and i look forward to more soon! :D
On my Minolta, aperture and program mode both change with exposure when I turn the aperture on the lens. What's the difference?
When shooting on program mode, you put the aperture setting on its smallest setting and leave it there.
Yes, a polarizer. Thanks for watching:)
I have a question on this i have the same one and after i put in the film and try to take a picture it doesnt click?
Seems like the handle on the right side is stuck and im not sure what to do ...
I'm having this same issue.. have you figured it out??
+Cherriona Green If you're lucky, it just means either you need new batteries or have not turn it on, or if you're unlucky, your shutter has locked up, and you would need to get it fixed.
Where is this? It is BEAUTIFUL!
Can you make a video talking about vinyl records? I would love that!
3 years ago I bought a x700 camera because of this video
. Now come here just to check how long I ve been stop using the camera...sad
Thanks:)
Green Bay Packers sweater?
camera video? lights out for me :D
And not enough time:)
Thanks for watching.
Is it worth getting a film camera now? It looks fun and they're cheap too (the film isn't though) It's just hard to justify to friends why i would buy a flim camera. What's the picture quality like? (Complete camera newbie here.)
If a person is using a film camera these days, it's probably because of a sentimentality for the past. The whole process of loading and shooting with film gives me a warm, nostalgic feeling, reminding me of days past. It comes with a price though like you mentioned and if you have never shot film, why start now..unless money isn't an issue. Picture quality depends on the film used and the skill of the photographer. With film, you spend a lot of time on one shot, composing it just right and making sure your exposure will be right on the money because...it cost money. It's not like digital where you can press the button as many times as you wanted until you were happy with the shot. Can you imagine taking a week vacation, shooting a lot of photos, and then having to possibly pay hundreds of dollars to see your pictures? That was common in the film days. You should put that money toward a good digital SLR (DSLR). Thansk for watching:)
Since your videos are very helpful, I felt free to ask you about a problem I am facing. I recently got a Seagull DF-200A. Most Seagull cameras has the same features as Milonta. I used a Fuji 200/36 film. After I had my film developed from a nearby professional studio, there were no images on my film. It is just blank and transparent. Is there anything wrong with my camera or was it a damaged film? The shutter of my Seagull works fine but there is a little bit of fungus in the lens and some dusts on the mirror. The camera works fine mechanically but I just could not figure out the problem I had to face with the film development. It was the first and the last time I developed a film that I used in my Seagull. Please help me out Sir and let me know all the possible errors that may occur with my camera or film. I will be glad to appreciate your kindness. Thank You.
It's possible that you got a blank roll! It means that you did not load the film correctly, and no pictures were taken. When you wind the film advance lever, does the film rewind knob on the left move as well? If it doesn't, you might not have loaded it properly
That's just it..I'm not. Thanks for watching.
Do you develop your own film? That would make an amazing video.
I used to but not anymore. I miss it though.
Actually i like this camera alot. It has everything working damn right. But the plastic housing ( pro that it's light though ) and a failure in the film forwarding lever dissapoints me.
Sounds like you have the dreaded x700 capacitor problem.. its not a hard fix
Holly MINOLTA 0:26
Aaron P My little stash.
Can i use a canon 50mm lens on this camera ?
my father had this exact same camera! sadly I broke it :(
Thats true man.
its taking taoo long to start with.. but great quality vid man
You know it!
Lol! Pick one up from a yard sale near to nothing and give it a go.
can you still buy physical film like that at walmart?
"Let's make another exposure adjustment."
Sweatshirt. Go Pack!
+RelaxingASMR Thankyou for the detailed response, I think I will buy a DSLR. Great ASMR buy the way, you gained a sub!
please show your watches in the coming videos
