Nice video. I have had my X700 for almost 20 years now, I bought it second hand. It still works perfectly!

X-700 for me, i started using mine after it sat for 20 years in a box in April and i'm very happy, the shutter capacitor failed in August but it was an easy fix, i've got a pretty decent collection of accessories for it and more than a few lenses, i'm probably going to buy a second body, or maybe an X-500 or XG-M as they are similar and you can use the same accessories and lenses.

Thank you for your comment! Good to hear you're using the X-700 again. I do think it's a very nice camera. However, when I bought the XD7, I never used the X-700 again...

It was a great camera for it's features and affordability. I found though that I preferred the minolta xd-11 as it was a better build. In the jungle the x-700 didn't keep out humidity. The xd-11 did. That's one thing I remember. I had to ensure that I took film out of the x-700 each night. Not everyone would have that problem but it's my experience.

Thank you for your comment! As I mention in this video I'm not a great fan of the build quality of the X-700. Features are great, but build quality... I just purchased a XD7 (XD-11 in the US). Made a video: ruclips.net/video/oXARSqjdjM8/видео.html

I guess shutter priority can be better but honestly I like the aorture priority. I just shot the x-700 with ektar 100 on my channel! Please check it out and leave some feedback please!

Well....I respectfully disagree with the point about the Canon A-1 being better build quality...I buy vintage film cameras in lots...untested...Most if the Minolta X-700 cameras I buy that way function perfectly....Not all but most of them....I would guess around 80- - 90% of them have no problems....Most of the Canon A-1 cameras I buy that way do not work...And I don't mean a few of them...I would guess around 80% of them do not function....So how could the Canon A-1 be considered the better built camera ??..If that were the case wouldn't more of them work or function as intended ?...In my experience it is hard to find a properly functioning Canon A-1....Even a lot of the ones advertised as tested on sites like ebay don't function fully...when you get the camera something is not going to work most of the time....On the other hand most of the Minolta X-700's sold as functioning usually are....I'm no expert.....But this has been my experience...I don't even attempt to buy functioning Canon manual cameras anymore....I own 3 Minolta X-700's at the moment....And while it is a fact I am not a fan of the cloth shutter I have NEVER had a problem with that....Just my 2 cents....Nice informative video ! .thank you !!

Thank you for your feedback! I don't own that much Canon A-1's, only three. But all three of them work just fine. I have to admit that 2 of them have to "squeek". It doesn't seem to affect the shutter speed but it is the main reason I never use those. Me saying the Canon A-1 is the better built one is just based on my personal opinion. The Canon just feels more solid. However: I use the Minolta twice a month, the Canon maybe twice a year... Somehow the X-700 and me have a better "click"...
Again: thank you for your feedback, it's always good to learn from other people's experience!

I have had very bad luck with Canon vintage film cameras...A couple of years ago I decided I wanted a working Canon A-1 ...So I momentarily left the "buy by lot only rule"...99% of the time I buy in lots....as I mentioned...Boxes of untested photo gear..but , anyways I decided I was going to buy a working (advertised as working correctly) Canon A-1...I bought 3....None of them worked completely..as I wanted...something was wrong with all 3 of the ones I bought advertised as working correctly...I returned all of them...and gave up...But through the years ( almost 11 years now) I would have thought with all of the cameras I have bought that I would have at least bought one that functioned properly...The only Canon I have that functions properly is an EF model...aka "The Black Beauty" ...I like it...But honestly with all the bad experiences I have had with the vintage Canons I just don't trust them anymore...Now, with that said I know several people that own vintage Canons that they swear by...They love em...I don't know...maybe I'm just cursed with the Canon brand....I love my Canon 50D by the way...I have used it a LOT....and the best part is I bought it second hand for 400 bucks...If I remember correctly they cost over 1400 bucks when released in 2008 ...or was it 2009 ??...anyways I waited a couple of years and bought mine for 400 bucks...It had a shutter count of less than 9000 ....And was in mint condition...It has been a work horse...and I do love it.....for a digital...lol...I prefer film cameras...And the fact is I cant tell you why..I honestly cant explain it...People ask me all the time why do you shoot film...I always answer I don't know...I just like it....They think I am crazy....And I probably am....But I am not alone...The demand for film cameras on ebay is testament to that....I have sold a LOT of cameras on ebay in the last 10 years...And No I'm not going to get rich doing it...But that's also just something I enjoy...Some boxes I make pretty good money...Some boxes not so much....But I love opening up a box and testing the vintage film cameras...I am like a kid at Xmas....Even though I sell most f them I have quite a collection of vintage film cameras....I have no idea how many...but its a LOT ....lol...Matter of fact I'm am thinning down the collection now....I have a few posted on ebay now and hope to post several cameras a week for a few months....I really hate to sell any of my cameras...But it doesn't make sense to me to keep as many as I have...I cant possibly use them all...It was fun collecting them though ...I have really enjoyed them...Thank you for your reply...From one film nut to another....Keep shooting film my friend....I will shoot as long as I live....or as long as I can afford film...whichever ends first....thanks again...Buck Sellers AKA douglasmilloutfitters

How do you work out that a camera with the worlds least preferred priority mode (shutter priority) had better features than the X700, which even had a Program mode.

Interesting that you think shutter priority beats aperture. I honestly feel the opposite.

I overdosed on buying X-700's, they are dirt cheap (think I have 8 now). If the capacitors work, nothing really can't go wrong. The older, the better. Series 24xxxxx and higher have more issues than the older ones. Friend uses Canon AE-1's and faces some shutter issues ('cough'). I guess it is mostly luck after three decades. But check prices: X-700: 25-40 Euro. A-1: way higher. Since I only use Aperture prio, the X-700 is my winner.

Whaha! "Overdosed..." you really got me laughing there! I only got one (and it's damaged) but I'm very happy with it. Got 3 Canon A-1's, 2 of them got the cough. It can be bad luck or not but most of my Nikon and Canon cameras of that era are not in good condition. Most Minoltas (even older ones) are. I can imagine that Canon A-1 is more expensive than the Minolta X-700 though, there are simply less A-1's out there...

Do any of the three have third stop exposure compensation?

X700 over XD7 or vice versa?

    • @AMBrikaer
      @AMBrikaer  7 лет назад +1

Thank you for this interesting question! I'm not familiar with the XD7
so I have no good opinion here... What I've read so far the XD7 sounds
very promising! But, found one and hope to purchase one soon. If so, I
will make a video about it!
