Its been 2 years since I found your channel, and its helped me go to sleep alot! For some odd reason I frequent this video its just so relaxing, I guess cause its outside?
I removed a fraction of a second that showed my face reflected in the contactor and added a intro and title screen to the beginning as well as a thank-you screen at the end. Thanks for watching:)
Always learn something watching your videos and they're always really interesting. Great Asmr qualities, keep up the great work I always look forward to the latest videos!
Another excellent video...Fascinating walk-thru of the switch. I had no idea. Your voice is so pleasant and relaxing. Thank you for taking the time to create this.
I highly recommend grounding out the capacitor before touching anything with the contactor it doesn’t matter that you disconnected the 240 the charge is still in the capacitor for around 40 minutes at minimum take a screwdriver with a insulated handle and touch the tips of the capacitor to make sure you’re 100% safe
the 2 most common refrigerant used in residential these days are r-22 and r-410a. r-22 has officially been phased out and now the main refrigerant is r-410a for almost all residential hvac units.
Really nice video, actually labour that was quite relaxing. I like the first and the third part most. The ones were you didn't record sound as you went along but put on sound afterwards. It's something about the lack of room, the closeness of the voice and the constant gainlevel that makes it more relaxing than the part you recorded live. Good thing you switched that unit because those screws weren't gonna make it much longer. ;-P
here in the US, houses have both 110 and 240 volt service. generally, if you go look at the wires coming into your home, there are two black wires and a silver or bare wire known as neutral. between the two black wires, there is a total voltage of 240 volts, and between one black wire and the neutral, there is a voltage of 110 volts.
R-12 still have a tank of it. R-22 is what was popular when i got into the industry, now its R-410A or puron. Supposed to be safe for the environment. anyhow great vid......
just came across your videos (thanks for suggesting it, youtube!), and wow, i just love the southern accent! i never thought i would be so excited to hear about the history of air conditioning!!! :D
Considering this is what I do on a regular basis, this one hits close to home. Geothermal HVAC installer/tech here. I wish that contactors were all I ever had to replace, haha! :-)
Nice video, there was a good documentary about getting to absolute zero that mentioned every scientific step we took in learning cooling, this video reminded me of it. Thanks, and I hope you are doing well!
I have a messed up family and never had a grandfather who cared and would teach me things, my dad's father died when my father was a teen. Watching these videos is like having a grandfather ^_^
Been here for your youtube videos so I came to watch your old ones. You said your air conditioner will be good for about 5 years. If you still live in the same establishment can you do a update video I think that would be cool!
I have had two other problems since the video was made: 1. a small wire that goes from the outdoor unit to the thermostat I think, wore the insulation off of itself where is passed through the metal wall of the unit and thus touched the metal and created a short. Carrier should have used a rubber grommet in a wire pass-through like that. Problem #2 was the motor failing on the air handler in the attic. the unit is well over 20 years old now and as long as the compressor remains fine I shall help it along as needed. It's been a good unit for sure and will possibly make a video the next time I have to work on it:)
Good Video! Seems I always learn something new every time I watch your videos. Most relaxing HVAC repair ever. Do you have anything Ham Radio related that you could dissect or fiddle with? Keep it up! :-) Norman, OK
I live in Canada and there is actually no use for air conditioners here, because during the summer we have small amounts of snow still on the ground so if you are hot you can just sit in one. I live in upper northern Canada
I won my local pub trivia last night because I remembered that I heard about James A. Garfield being alive 2 1/2 months after his assassination in this video. Thank you very much!
I have been watching your videos for months now and keep wondering what you do / did for a living. I keep thinking engineer, but it's hard to know for sure without just asking. :)
i know this video is a re-upload but i'm interested in why you decided to re-upload it? did you delete it by mistake or was there something wrong with the video? :)
In my career in HVAC and Refrigeration I have seen countless contactors go bad. Very common problem. As well as the capacitor failing. I'm guessing you have a 35/5 mfd capacitor or at 25/5 mfd capacitor.

Glad to know I'm not the only person who curses the inventor of the slotted screwdriver.
I think we should pass a law to abolish flat head screws.
I cringe every time I see someone trying to insert a slotted screwdriver. There's still the Phillips and the Robby dangit!
Same lol 😂😂

It actually went from r12 to r22 and now most residential units use r410a. But not bad for someone not in the industry.
