Intercooler and radiator upgrades are needed if you tow in the Rockies year round as shown in the video where they got Andre's powerboost to hit derate mode due to the coolant temps. My 2014 F150 Ecoboost hit limp mode the first time I ever towed my 5500 lb travel trailer coming back from a trip in Idaho on a 100F day. I think you'd need to go back to the 07 era Tundras that came in single cab short bed with a supercharger. They would run 4.4 second 0-60 according to motortrend tests. TRX is still faster. But that's probably the quickest Tundra ever.
@@LionRunner Basically the same thing. The tune was different when Toyota was doing it. The Magnusson tune is 550hp now, I think it was only 505hp when Toyota was selling them. I think the actual physical parts are the same though. Keep in mind though that that was also a single cab short bed 2wd truck that Toyota doesn't sell anymore. I've actually never seen one in person. I don't think they sold more than a handful. The TRX is a crew cab 4x4 that sells pretty well. So I'm not sure it's really a fair comparison. Anyway - I think that was the fastest Tundra ever. It just wasn't a very good truck for anything else, and it wasn't a very good sport car either. So pretty useless other than some quick 0-60 times.
@@MrJcjet I bet its a fun truck with 505 stock or 550 those who fixed after market. With the new twin turbo hybrid I'm not sure if owners can fix supercharger any more since that electric motor is sandwiched to the transmission. Its always nice to have some good power while keeping the reliability. I'm also curious to see (if by any chance) hybrid battery has 0% charge how it will impact since gas motor is now not directly connected.
@@LionRunner I think the only aftermarket options will be tunes for this engine. It's too complex and uses custom in-house turbo units manufactured by Toyota. The tuners think 650hp is about the limit for the engine tunes. But I'd guess we won't see much more than 500ish hp from the engine because of the internal design. It'll never be a race truck. Just a good towing and quiet highway cruiser.
So i will be passing though denver area on the way to my cabin north of Steamboat springs in the near future... Care to put up the TRX to a 5 Star tuned 3.5 F-150? Lunch says I spank you.
I'm still impressed with Andre's hybrid F-150. It did surprisingly well against the TRX. The Tundra seems to come across as being dialed back. I wonder if Toyota has it tuned that way for long term reliability?
I think Toyota know the people that will buy a Tundra will already do so and dialing it back just slightly to make it last much longer is a good thing to retain those customers. It is still plenty of power for the job unlike the old 4.0 in the 4Runner and should do the deed for years to come.
Same engine in the LC300 is about 25hp more. That's not a lot. But there are for sure different tunes. The Tundra is tuned for 87 octane. So it's a little milder. But the tundra turbo 6 is totally different from the Ford in design. Ford is a high revving short stroke wide bore engine. The Toyota is a narrow bore long stroke low revving engine. I don't think the tundra will ever end up being a race car type experience. It's just not an engine that is built to race. It's built to produce power at low rpms. So it wouldn't be a good engine in a sports car like Ford uses the same 3.5 EB engine for.
Ford put pretty large turbos on the 2018+ 3.5L Ecoboost, to the point that they can maintain the full factory HP right up to 11,000+ feet if they wanted. My guess is that truck is making all of the 430hp its rated for. The Ram on the other hand is supercharged. The supercharged motor will lose power with altitude just like a NA motor since the blower speed is always relative to the crank speed. The Ram was down like 15-17% on power here, putting it in the 585-600 hp range. While still more than the Powerboost, it also weights 1000 lbs more and has 35's to spool up.
I don't think the Tundra is dialed back. Its a HEAVY truck. 5600 lbs for a non-hybrid mid-level trim is considerably higher than an F150 or Silverado. That Tundra weighs about the same as Andre's powerboost and has 40 less hp and doesn't get the instant torque off the line from the electric motor. That should have been an easy win for the Powerboost on paper and it kinda was. The Ram 1500(not TRX) was kind of a ringer. It was faster than it should have been i think
Roman it was really cool meeting you on the trails today, when I got back into cell range I made sure to tell everyone I met a famous youtuber (dont worry I didnt give away your testing location)
Of course, not only is the difference in power between TRX and the other trucks, but TRX is also tuned for ultimate performance unlike normal trucks which are designed to haul.
@Rick race against the Ford the TRX got 5.6 then the race against the Toyota was 4.9 also Nathan said he jumped so yeah that TRX would have got 1 1/2 lengths to 2 lengths on that Ford
So what they really are saying is the Ford is the best bang for the buck. I mean 49g vs 85g hmm just 10 feet diff. Isnt worth the cash. Want be long and ford will out perform that TRX withniys v6 model. Pushing less than 500hp. To over 700hp. Thats more amazing !

The lighter RWD model with 20" wheels (sub 5800 lbs) is quicker still since there are no traction issues with only 400 hp in a vehicle this heavy. I own the vehicle and a dragy. When you guys do the “photo finish”. You should put a camera further back so that when the winning truck crosses we can see just how far back the losing truck is. So make them both in frame as the winning truck crosses, I think it would be easier to see the gap better
They drag raced that mocked up supercharged 6.2L Silverado Baja truck called the Jackal or whatever a year or two ago. It was pretty embarrassing, the TRX walked it and it was only about on par with a stock Raptor.
I'm planning on buying a new truck in 2022, and I'm so torn on which to buy. I'm a former Dodge guy, but have had a Tundra since 2008 and it's been a dream! Absolutely no issues other than normal wear items. But, looks like those are bought up for awhile. Never been a Ford fan, but the Power Boost is tempting. And will I even be able to find one on the lot, and at a fair price. Ugh! I hate this economy!
I'm a tundra owner and I agree with you, its something about that ram hemi it seems to get better and better as years passes. I watch a race on channel at sea level and the ram rebel beat the tundra 5.7.
@@stefanovichmichael9686 Is yours modded by chance? Were you at even higher elevation? The reason why I say that the RAM would have won is because naturally aspirated engines performance decreases a decent amount as they get higher in elevation. However, turbocharged engines don't have that issue nearly as badly. However, I'm sure that the Tundra will last a while longer, being a toyota, even turbocharged if done right.
Very cool! Andre truck much closer than one might think! I thought the TRX was supposed to run in the 3’s to 60. What is distance it’s taking TRX to hit 60?
Gotta take into consideration the F150 is crazy light compared to the other trucks. I tried racing one in my 2015 Ram 2500 megacab on 35’s at 8500lb, which at the time was abit over 9,000lbs due to passengers, and a whole set of tires and wheels in the bed. I was tuned on maybe 410ish HP. Big mistake to try to beat him from a dead stop to a where a street reduced into 1 lane. he was most likely a 3.5 ecoboost and maybe tuned himself. Ofcourse comparing some 6,000lb Ford 1/2ton on small 32” highway tires, probably a better gear ratio, to a vehicle that is on 35x12.5 mud tires, easily 2000-2500lbs heavier and was at maybe 410hp…. I didn’t actually manage to badly. But the diesel was made for comfortably towing while the newer Fords kind of suck at it….. being lighter isn’t always great when it comes to moving big trailers even if it’s within the weight limits

TRX looked like a Bugatti pulling away from the tundra
TRX also looked good while doing it. 👍🏻
yeah until the hybrid version... since it will be faster than the ford
Toyotas are always dial back for durability and longevity . I want to see it with an after market tune .
Nobody is beating the TRX. Even with 35’s!
Of course, not only is the difference in power between TRX and the other trucks, but TRX is also tuned for ultimate performance unlike normal trucks which are designed to haul.
Until the electric trucks arrive that is.
Lol my lexus walked a TRX on the highway not even
yet
@Rick race against the Ford the TRX got 5.6 then the race against the Toyota was 4.9 also Nathan said he jumped so yeah that TRX would have got 1 1/2 lengths to 2 lengths on that Ford
Man, the hybrid Tundra is going to be a screamer!
Nissan could easily put the gtr engine in the titan and have a pretty awesome truck
Do It!!
I support this
I would be curious to see how that engine would handle towing. It would make for an amazing 1/4 mile truck though!
Or add a turbo to 5.6
Yes Nissan! Give us the Warrior with GT-R power!!!
Awesome! Glad you thru in different brands especially the Titan cause I drive one.
I just fkn love Nathan’s little snide cocky comments when he’s winning a drag race. So damn funny 😄. Only other truck left is the Hybrid Tundra. Great match up guys! Thanks
Nice language. If you are such a tough guy, why not spell out the word completely? Just another Internet Princess.
@@mikek5298 😂
Does the Tundra have tow haul enabled and it has 2 settings and traction control turned off.
Was waiting for the TRX to go in a limp mode and catch the brakes on fire
all that money for just a little bit faster and alot more noise.
I think a fair comparison would be either the non hybrid ecoboost vs that tundra or the hybrid tundra when it comes out vs the power boost
I love my 5.7 TRD PRO. I bought it knowing it was the best of Toyota V8 trucks. Dang it I was right!!
The king of trucks is and will always be the TRX!
Until the Raptor R dethrones it next year. Also I'm pretty certain the Electric trucks coming will probably be quiet a bit faster than everything currently offered.
An additional $30k for an extra 272 hp/80 tq advantage that only gets you a win by a bumper? No thanks, I'd take the Ford all day.
I think you guys do these videos just for the fun!
Ford just wait until the Tundra IForce MAX comes out next year!!!
Wow! I bought a 2022 Tundra in 2017 when I bought a F150!
I'll be curious to see how the hybrid tundra does. I'm betting that extra 100 lb ft of torque will help.
That and due to that extra 100lbs of torque coming from a electric motor I'm sure that it'll help a lot with that jolt to get the truck rolling.
Will it use both simultaneously?
The Ram verses Tundra drag race was epic. As well as all the ones with the TRX
the trx is a monster🔥
Anything with 700hp is. I'm excited to see how the Ford Raptor R with the 760hp 5.2L GT500 V8 stands up to it.
@@nathanmcdonald610 shh thats a secret
hate to be that guy but there’s definitely some electrics that will destroy the trx
It barely beat the half price F150 by a length in that race. For that kind of money it better destroy everything.
@@mattbrew11 Its fine, I commented the same thing somewhere else on this video. The electrics may be faster, but they'll never have the cool factor of a 700hp+ V8.
This is what everyone wanted see, thanks guys
Kinda wondering when dodge is going to use the Dakota name again on something similar to the Maverick that would be cool 😎
They will do it soon everyone follows Fords lead anyway
Chrysler doesn’t have the money to develop anything like the Dakota anytime soon. Their focus is ev crossovers.
They have a lil truck that doesn't sell in the u.s I believe, although I saw one in Texas about a month ago, I believe is called the ram 700, it's a cool lil thing I guess.
@@fredlodexpo2011 that not sold in the U.S its sold in other markets around the world like Mexico
@@fredlodexpo2011 I just googled that truck and it’s not bad. Definitely would sell well here. Must be interesting to live in Texas and see the Mexican vehicles we don’t get in the USA. So which truck is the lightest?
The TRX still eats them all up! The Dodge Brothers would be proud!! Great video.
For how much it costs it better

Andre knows how fast his truck is lol 😆,
So when he won against his truck he was like acting surprised 😆 🤣 !!
Regardless of speed, that Nissan sounds the best by far

Got to give it that. The 5.6L V8 sounds beastly, its to bad its bark is a lot bigger than its bite.
@@nathanmcdonald610 meh it’s up there. This one was weighed down by tons of accessories that none of the other trucks had. I think it’s closer than it looks.
All of these trucks are absurdly quick for their size and weight. Trucks were never this level of quick two generations ago. It’s this crazy arms race we are seeing here and I’m here for it.
Great drone footage!!!

Can’t wait for the tundra hybrid!
The face Andrey makes when passing the opponents 🤨😎😉
Andre yelling NO when his personal truck is beating him in the Tundra. The Powerboost was alot closer to the TRX than the Turdyota!
I have a 2014 Tundra and when you turn on the tow/haul mode it becomes a tire shredding animal off the line and revs out more to make it quicker and so much more fun. Can you guys try that with this Tundra to see if the new version acts the same way?
My 2020 Tundra is the same way. The most aggressive tow mode I’ve ever experienced
What actually happens when tow mode is engaged? Is there a speed limit when using it?
@@northerntoyota7584 My friend, can you make an acceleration of 0-100 and put it on your channel to see it channel to see it?

I wish you would re-race the raptor because when you showed the time it was faster than the truck that you said that one on each race I don’t understand how it’s time 0 to 60 could be faster and it not be declared the winner but I love your videos and these drag races are epic. I believe from what I have seen it should be the TRX the F150 hybrid and the standard raptor on 35s based off of the races you have performed and their times
They wanted the Tundra to win. It's obvious the Raptor is/was faster.
Raptor is sh*t😂
Probably an issue with the timing, the Tundra clearly crossed the line first
If you dont have a good a reaction time, you can accelerate faster than your opponent and still lose

I have to say for trucks none of them did bad. They really did great for trucks. As most here I am looking forward to the Toyota Hybrid, but have a sneaking feeling it will not be as the Ford Hybrid (Andre’s truck.) This makes for more videos and even better results. Thank you TFL!!!
Yeah, but the Tundra will still be on the road much longer.
My takeaway is that the Ford Powerboost is impressive.
Yes, also makes me very curious about the tundras forthcoming hybrid. That will make for a good comparison im guessing
It will be a good comparison, however, I think Ford leveraged the battery better and also placed it where it doesn't take up too much interior space.
Yes, very impressive. Until warranty period is up.
@@dmproske Ford has one of the single most reliable hybrid systems currently offered on the market, and the Ecoboost has been around over a decade now and has had most of its bugs worked out. You just seem salty because you don't like Fords and the Ford is clearly more impressive than the Toyota.
No replacement for displacement. Yes, you can eco or powerboost a lawn mower in 2021 and get power. I however like big trucks with a v8 engine..so it would be nice if Ford would power boost the Coyote and make that an option.
In the beginning of your video it sounded like a big flock of geese taking off. Great videos fellers!
Yes, yes …. The race i wanted, we all wanted 👍🙂🙂
I noticed that the Tundra that you put through the Ike had a moon roof and this one doesn’t. Do you have two trucks? Is there a performance difference between the two?
Great video! That Ram did much better agaisnt the Tundra than I thought it would. It was right there amd I know you guys always say that the turbos have a much bigger advantage that far above sea level.
I think the 392 gears helped a lot.
I was shocked! Don’t know if the hemi over performed or the Tay-yoda under performed 🤔
@@upshifter5316 I thought rhe Tam did good being that high of elevation.
@@upshifter5316 I think they both performed as expected. The Tundra has more power at elevation, but it's also a significantly heavier truck. It's roughly 10% heavier, so it has more work to do.
I'd love to see a similar drag race with a 10k lb trailer on each truck. That would be really interesting.
Hey when you drag race do you launch with the diff locked and or in 4x4?
The surprise for me was that Nathan/ Ford Hybrid was that quick, the end result was not a surprise but sure did sound good!
Roman's jump,... he's allowed, he's the starter for today! Hahaha!
I was impressed by the hybrid ford too.
great job guys/thanks much
Was TC off in the Titan? It must be off if you are doing this type of test, TC is really restrictive 👍
Titans are pretty slow compared to everything currently offered out there anyway. I don't think TCS being off would have been the difference between a win and a loss.

Always amazing how much the NA engines get slowed down at elevation. I have the same Nissan V8 in my 5800 lbs Infiniti and at sea level with a 7spd it does 0-60 in 5.6-5.8 seconds (dragy). 3 whole seconds!
Not true.. sorry but that’s a lie a stock infinity with that v8 doesn’t turn a 5.6 second 0-60 on any planet or universe. It’s fact and science.
@@fasterthanyou7605 Damn man, you should've used google before you spouted off. The 6000-6100 lbs AWD model on 22" wheels has been recorded at 5.9-6.2 seconds 0-60 many times by Car and Driver and Motor Trend. The lighter RWD model with 20" wheels (sub 5800 lbs) is quicker still since there are no traction issues with only 400 hp in a vehicle this heavy. I own the vehicle and a dragy. Try tundra vs none powerboost. The regular 3.5l is faster that the powerboost. Weight is s big factor, powerboost runs around 13.9, regular 3.5 ecoboost runs 13.6 😉
When you guys do the “photo finish”. You should put a camera further back so that when the winning truck crosses we can see just how far back the losing truck is. So make them both in frame as the winning truck crosses, I think it would be easier to see the gap better
I Wish There Was A Silverado ZR2 6.2L V8.
It’d be 3rd or 4th probably trx and f150 would smoke it for sure
They drag raced that mocked up supercharged 6.2L Silverado Baja truck called the Jackal or whatever a year or two ago. It was pretty embarrassing, the TRX walked it and it was only about on par with a stock Raptor.
@@nathanmcdonald610 I Wouldn't Recommend The Supercharged Trucks,Because They Had Too Much Power & They Way Too Fast!
It would lose, even to the 5.7 tundra. And the Tundra would still be on road many years and miles down the road.
Regardless, the hybrid F-150 is amazingly fast. Just shows that Ford is always making the F-150 better every generation.
That 8 speed in the Ram shifts so quick
The Same transmission in BMW, Range rovers, and many others.

Same. I think Andre made such an excellent choice.
Same........ very impressed with that XL truck
Are these truck engines warmed up before lining up to race? or are they raced cold? Just curious.
At sea level, the RAM probably would have won that over the Tundra. This is at a mile above sea level.
I'm a tundra owner and I agree with you, its something about that ram hemi it seems to get better and better as years passes. I watch a race on channel at sea level and the ram rebel beat the tundra 5.7.
I have smoked 2 ram hemis easily. And my Tundra will outlast those rams 3 times over.
It's Colorado. Our air sucks no 0-60 ins 3.x here
Gotta take into consideration the F150 is crazy light compared to the other trucks.
