This was very helpful in understanding some of the responses my dog has to others. I got him at 3 months and a lot of his "firsts" are unknown to me, so I am trying to make all experiences positive, but some things my doggie simply does not like, such as bicycles and small bridges. No clue how he got that way, but working every day to make him comfortable around both.
I live rural but own a 2nd home still rural but a busy town nearby. I try and get those experiences. They are exposed to a variety of experiences inckuding a daughter in a wheelchair. Whole family has a variety of dogs so they are exposed to them. I also believe that when they are scared of something we go see to make them comfortable. I bellieve they take if i am comfortable and stay calm they do too. Training is a life long experience because that is what they always have ...life long experiences.
I've acquired a 2 y.o. dog from a family member that not only hasn't had any training, but was allowed some bad behaviors. He also was lost for a week, so who knows what happened to him then. I've made some headway with the little skills and knowledge I have. I'm looking for videos on training older dogs. I'll search through your channel to see what's available.
Watching UK Dog trainer Victoria Stilwell's show It's Me or the Dog might be of particular use to you. It's about her teaching owners to help their dogs overcome their existing undesirable habits. Good luck!
Unfortunately, I am almost sure that more than 90% of american dog owners do not know what you are talking about. It just pops up in the mind, go get a dog and that is it.
Agree. Most people get dogs and don't understand body language. They send them to Daycare to get them tired, not realizing just what goes on there. Dog parks-no way especially off leash.
What are good training treats to use? I don't want to give him too many unhealthy treats even if they're labeled as training treats. I also started cooking for him because kibble isn't great on his tummy, so I can't really use kibble as training treats. Do you have any suggestions for treats that are somewhat healthier if he's going to be eating a lot of them during training?

Trader Joe’s has these crunchy beef liver flavored treats that are very low calorie, about 3 per. I use those
