    • @makeorwellfictionagain3553

      I tend to buy higher end reels and cheaper rods. I have a majorcraft days, tsurinoya kendo. Tsurinoya elf trout. A proflex 2 and a Chinese glass rod that I’m really impressed with. Only 1.4m so ideal for bushwhacking stream work. Pretty much got all bases covered but doesn’t stop me looking 😂😂

      I don't care what the price tag is, if it works, it works. The TSU Ares is great for back creek brook trout and is my favorite rod for that fishing. Isn't the most versatile rod though.

    • @makeorwellfictionagain3553
      @makeorwellfictionagain3553 2 года назад +1

      @@HobieWanKenobi I’ve found the tsurinoya rods to be awesome for the price. The kendo is great for cranks due to the action being slightly slower. The elf is slow action but still sensitive due to it being carbon and at over 6ft great for longer range work, the proflex is xfast and brilliant for soft plastics. Especially hopped across the deck. Can’t really go wrong with them as far as I can see.

    I've always stuck with fiberglass rods for my pike setup, as they allow me to swim the baits in a more natural motion, especially for twitching, but you've brought up so many other benefits of fiberglass rods. I have an old (15 years) Browning med-heavy that i just love. I use a medium-light graphite rod for my trout spinners. Thanks for all the info!

    Great video. I think the whole terminology for describing a rod’s attributes needs a revisit:
    Fast and slow should only be used to describe the recovery of the blank (ie carbon fast, glass slow), but then discerning between carbon blanks could be problematic (measure in milliseconds?). Taper should be described as short (currently fast) or long (slow). These are more accurate. Power ratings? Well that’s a bit tricky, but maybe just stick to line class and/or casting weights.
    I’m interested to hear what others think.

    • @HobieWanKenobi
      @HobieWanKenobi  2 года назад

      That's an interesting point of view. People saying "medium heavy action" really arent saying anything. I know what they mean but, it adds to the already murky system of rod ratings.

    • @HobieWanKenobi
      @HobieWanKenobi  Год назад +1

      It's usually moreso matching the power of the rod to the fish. Using a rod with too much power regardless of material tends to lead to more fish getting off. I will say most times, glass keeps fish pinned better. That is especially true in fast current. The Tsurinoya Ares I use a lot for brook trout is solid carbon so, it bends somewhat like glass.

    What length would you recommend, im planning to buy solid carbon rod for my UL set with braided line, mainly fish for snakehead and bass
    And also, ive never fish for trout cause theres no trout from where i lived, i believed that trout had a thick mouth, unlike bass with super thin mouth where you can hook up super easy, why people use slow action super soft rod for trout fishing when its harder to hookup?

    • @HobieWanKenobi
      @HobieWanKenobi  Год назад +1

      Bass get a better strike on lures. Trout tend to swipe at lures so, a softer rod helps the trout take the lure into it's mouth better. Fishing I'm a stream, there is current and other factors that require more cushion to prevent the trout from shaking the lure loose.

    I got 2 custom glass casting rods . 1 is a Resilure cutom glass on an S blank rated 1-6 grams with Torzite Guides and the 2nd in a Gray Wolf Trout smith on an E glass blank rated 1-5 grams not sure of the guides but they are high end Fujis no doubt . Only used them with Flourocarbon so far . The Resilure is a faster action than the Trout Smith and both enjoyable to cast . The Resilure has a glass piece inserted into the joins where as the Trout Smith doesnt and just slots over its self . Both great rods but the Trout smith is more sensitive to me . Not sure if its the one being S andthe other E glass blank that makes the difference or if its to do with the glass inserts in the S blank . The Trout smith is a much softer rod and slower action so you would think it would be the least sensitive . But its not the case . Thinking about it though , I used 2 different fluorocarbons so maybe one has more stretch than the other . More testing needs to be done . They are definitely stream rods and i get more distance with less effort with my carbon rods . Considering getting the Major Craft FineTail Glass next or the Tenryu Rays Spectra RZS51LL-BC Casting rod . The addiction is real and not for the faint hearted . Not Just Bfs but casting rods and reels in general . Im not even gonna go into my SUL , XUL , UL spinning rods and reels . Nice video! I think the only difference of carbon fibers vs. glass fibers are modulus and maximum stretch / tensile yield. And as you said, there’s different modulus glass fibers, Quarts S-Glass may be strongest one. But carbon has modulus over glass, and therefore it’s a lot of easier to do faster blank from carbon than glass. Rod action (how much parabolic action) is in my opinion more related to rod taper than material. Solid blanks are usually more parabolic action and glass is usually more parabolic action, but I have one solid glass blank, which is not parabolic action at all. I have more parabolic action solid carbon blanks, and I have more than that parabolic action tubular glass blank…So rod action is in my opinion principally taper -related. After all, in my stream fishing solid carbon short rod (Tsurinoya Ares / Tsurinoya Trout Master) works really good. Trout Master is better in case of 2+ gram lures. It’s solid carbon, and action is something between common carbon rod action and common glass rod action. Relatively mild taper + solid blank allows it to bend almost parabolically, because stretch doesn’t grow too much in any point of blank. Btv, are you going to get those glass rods you using to shop of BFS emperium? And that was good point to leave front hook away from minnow, to get lure hooked deeper in to mouth. Actually realizing that, front hook of small minnow is more ore less useless. Maybe to replace it by 2 spilt rings, similar weight than hook, and to create sound.

    • @HobieWanKenobi
      @HobieWanKenobi  2 года назад +1

      Good input! The tapers of rods is a complex science and that is what makes expensive rods often times better. Those small details adding up to add to performance.
      As of now, BFE will not be stocking the glass rod I am using.
      For hook placement, I do the front hook point toward to lip when fishing waters with less snags. I use lures with hook point face rear or no front hook in areas with a lot of logs and such.
