BFS exists for those who prefer baitcasting reels, before BFS you had to use a spinning reel to throw lightweight lures now I don’t have to use a spinning reel I can just grab my BFS reel combo. If you don’t like baitcaster then just continue to use your spinning reel but I wouldn’t call it a scam again simply put just allows anglers who prefer baitcasters to throw light lures
Awesome video I really enjoyed it. I use tiny Rapala poppers, thinking they're one inch. Rooster Tails, love them. Also, I'm a big fan of the Mule micro spinners. I don't have a BFS set up but I have nothing against it. My combo is a medium light spinning set up, 10 pound power pro with a 8 or 6 pound leader. I recently recieved my order of Rebel Crickhoopers can't wait to try one today. Nerd fishing is so much fun.
Im a budget person so what i have been using for texas rig hook is the do-it wacky hooks and the owner screwlock in the small size fits the size 2 and the size 6.the size 2 is good for the 3in dinger and the 6 is good with trout worms
Really enjoy your videos about the BFS style. I personally use a spinning reel but the in depth view of smaller tackle for those of us who don't live around the lakes with 10+ lb monsters is much appreciated.
I picked up some used Japanese bfs reels and some aftermarket spool conversions years ago and while not the cutting edge they are a lot of fun to fish and I have started taking a very short ultralight bfs set up with me along with an ultralight spinning set up when I am hiking mountain streams for native brook trout. If you fish bass and trout it's nice to have a rig in the car that is compact light and works just about anywhere the opportunity arises. I used to keep one in the trunk of the taxi I drove in case I dropped off an airport passenger near a good fishing hole. It's nice being ready to take advantage of the opportunity even if you only have a short time to fish. I even carried a little rod and reel in my wine delivery truck because occasionally my route would finish early in an advantageous location for me to get my hands slimed on my way back to the warehouse. Often it was a very quick trip and a spur of the moment decision made as I approached a bridge and read the sign "I've heard about this river, always wanted to fish here, one more cast still home by dark lol"
I just purchased my first setup and it just so happened to be the curado/dobyns combo and I am IN LOVE. First time out on the creek with a whopper plopper 60 and caught 3 smallmouth in the 2-3lb range. Incredibly fun!
It's basically ultra light fishing for bass fishing. I would definitely give it a try. I know the Chinese started bfs because the bass are more skittish and reluctant to bite normal baits.
thanks for the video, this helped me out figure out what kind of tackle to look for. I live in maryland, so im not so sure how useful this info will be, but last night i was crushing it on a pink underspin 1/16th crappie jig with a white trailer on it (grub for me) white perch and stripped bass were SMASHING that thing last night. i have never caught so many white perch over a foot long and the strippers seemed to enjoy it too! biggest fish i got were a 15 inch stripped bass and a massive 13 inch white perch, all on crappie baits. anyway, thanks for the advice and getting me into the right mind from when starting my bfs journey, all of your videos were immensely helpful. You two are rule!
I’ve got to say I’ve been itching to try out the Ned jig from pig jigs and I’ve also been wanting to try his new jig the little buddy. It’s a ball head jig with an EWG.
The only advantage to BFS setups is when you get a headwind against your feather light ultralight lure mid-cast, causing the lure to stall and stop mid-flight, and your BFS baitcaster reel bird nests because of how fast your super-light weight BFS baitcaster spool was spooling out when the ultralight lure stalled mid-flight, SO COOL! WAIT A MINUTE!!! That doesn't sound like an ADVANTAGE to BFS baitcaster setups! EXACTLY!!!😂🤣😅 Just another "get off my lawn" old man joke Jeff. This is truly an AWESOME VIDEO! PROPS to Ethan at Mule Fishing and the Rebel classics!!!
I have loved BFS fishing since I first heard about it... 40 YEARS AGO... when it was called "ultralight fishing"... and it used simple spinning rods and reels. 😂 Just some sarcasm guys, now GET OFF MY LAWN!!! (Another old man joke... but I'm only 48).
Dope video Jeff everything was put together very nicely. The one bait I would have added is the Megabass karashi. I’ve caught more fish on that bait than any other downsized bait and it’s not even close. Also for people that think you can only catch small fish on bfs that is a complete myth. Tight lines nerds keep up the amazing content.
I found out by accident while I was "out of town" that Owner makes a hook file (HF-11A) that's sized for the cards used in the hook bags. Limited capacity but enough for a minimal load out. 28:27
Another fun video. I love the wildlife at the end. This year in one day I saw an bald eagle, a Blue herring and a mink. You never know what you’ll see. I love all your videos!
Dude. This was a sick video! My first time seeing your channel and I'm totally *subscribed.* I love doing bait reviews, but your style and informative delivery is inspirational. Thanks for the tips. I've never seen most of these baits! Will certainly try some of them out. #LETSGOOOO
I know this is super late but if you guys see this. You can try the plano 350022, their 3500 double sided box, it holds roughly 2 3500 trays worth of tackle plus it can hold spinnerbaits, I like having those small strike king mini pond baits with me and for my kayak I can hold everything for both bfs and select options for full sized without needing an extra box.
Man I remember digging through heaps of cheap spincasting terminal, off brand panfish plastics and some awful micro hard baits 6-7 years ago at the big box stores. Now I’m 35 and can afford the bougie Megabass and JDM stuff, but every trip I’m still loading up on my “bargain” plastics and spinners 😂
Cool video! I'm going to have to get some of those boxes. They look to be more sturdy than the Japanese brands and ones for flies and ice fishing I've been using over the years. Oh, and I think everyone that watches your channel knows what BFS is by now. The haters too.😆👍🏼 #moreBFS
Jeff just wondering would you recommend the Varivas .6 braid which is I think 14.6 lb test. It’s the most expensive “premium “ line I’ve ever seen. Or would you just say heck with it and use the smaller Power Pro in a 2lb diameter which is 10lb test? And thank you for going over the baits in this video. I know y’all don’t really do a lot of panfishing, but would y’all consider doing a panfish bfs video? Also I have the exact Zephyr setup just not put the RoRo bearings in my Zephyr yet.
I have 10 and 8 lb test power pro on mine. Works fine. Varivas is great and there is a noticeable difference in casting ease, but it’s not always necessary
@@aaanglers thank you. I do plan on getting the Darkwolf Ultra and doing a bearing upgrade in it as well. This BFS style of fishing is very addictive. It takes me back to my roots of creek and river fishing.
Mepps are killer, I have some that are maybe 40 years old or more, but the tiny hooks are a no no for me around bass. Have had to dispatch more than I wanted to due to hook damage in gills. These things will catch fish on the 1st cast if they are there though.
I just watched the video, great job. I went looking for the baits from Mule baits and wanted to get some combo packs that you showed. I am unable to find them, where should I look

What I do to peg weight is to get a 6in piece of wire and bend in half then put threw sinker then use toddler rubber band and snip so you have a straight piece then put in loop of wire and pull threw sinker then cut tag end .this is good cause I'm a bank fisherman and you can fish cover with the sinker next to bait and when you get to open water you can slide sinker up and fish like a Carolina rig
bfs makes sense , Bass are not the hardest fighting fish compared to other game fish. What is the average time to bring in a bass? even a big one? 30 seconds maybe. Most times a bass is motor boated in.
Have y'all had any zman plastics messing up the buzbe boxes. I am wanting to switch over but I use zman plastics and I pre rig a lot of my jigs because it's always raining here on the Oregon coast.
In my humble opinion the only advantage BFS brings over untralite spinning is how fast you can re-cast. I can throw all of the same lures with my spinning rod 🤷🏿♂️
I can't even confirm that it's an ozark. Just a small frog I got in a bundle of baits from some guy on Facebook. Look up bfs frog or pocket frog and you should see tons of options
To be honest I got into after watching your video I’m into big bass etc but get boring when the don’t bait and also having a son who gets bored fast bfs is great for him and gives us a good time going for multiple species no matter what the size and price what isn’t expensive with this administration so I enjoy it and my time with my kid instead of him playing Fortnite he enjoys bfs
I'm just getting into Ultralight fishing with a spinning setup. I know BFS is just for baitcasting but I'm assuming every time you say BFS I can sub Ultralight in my head? Right?

Bait Finesse System. Back in the day we called it downsizing, or just "finesse". Ned Rig and Hover Rig used to be called "jig and plastic". Wtf is happening with fishing.
When I was young bait was organic, lures were metallic, plastic, or wood. Now, from bass fishing, everything is a “bait”. Each technique has its strengths and weaknesses. BFS is great if you are more comfortable with casting reels, or want to ensure better control and straighter lines.
I mean don't people like blue gills, crappie, rock bass ,smallmouth bass etc cause bfs is necessary for those species and all panfish, as a creek and stream angler I started fishing with bfs and a of course I use big baits to its all about what kind of fishing you like to do

I really like BFS fishing. It's not your father's ultralight type of rig. It's a snoopy size bait casting rig. That is crisp, responsive & has some backbone. They are more accurate to cast than a spinning rod & so much more fun.
Again bfs (baitcast) setups are just a scam to dip into anglers pockets deeper lol but... ultra light finesse fiahing is legit fun multi species fishing. I was doing that since o was a kid and still do it sometimes just for a change of pace from bass fishing. But i stick to spinning gear that i can also use for bass fishing.
So how are they a scam? You don’t have to buy it. They’re for guys who like the control and strength of a baitcast reel, but with lures that until now have required a ultralight spinning setup to throw. I would very much rather use a bfs with small swimbaits and micro texas rigs and basically everything. I’m sorry you would rather use a spinning. That’s your opinion. Doesn’t make bfs a scam
@nathanjones7599 seriously dude this is a year old 😂😂 smh. And yes most bfs reels are a scam because you can literally build 50 to 80 size reels cheaper that will do the same. Btw I was fishing customized finesse casting reels before they where popular in the US. Btw most so called bfs reels in the US don't cast below 1/8TH oz very well or the ones that do are very over priced. The ark everyone praises is well over priced it's haibo counter part which is the same reel is literally 50$ cheaper before sales. The companies are throwing shallow spools and labels in basic reels in the US like the revo x bfs for example. It's a revo x with a shallow spool and basically that's it. It does not cast lower weights very well. Or you have the chinesse reels relabeled here like the ark and priced way higher than the haibo counter part that's built in the same factory by the same company. Tell me you know nothing about the market without telling me 😂.
@nathanjones7599 btw 1 more thing there's a huge difference in bfs casting gear and ultra light casting gear. There's not many actual ultra light casting reels on the US market and all that are have been way over priced. China and Japan designed ultra light casting reels have to be bought from the Asian market.
People who don’t like BFS aren’t good at BFS. The most fun I’ve had was catching a 6lb largemouth on my castaway XL 6’8 rod on 4 pound line

What are the pros and cons?? Does a bfs reel do more than a spinning when you use it correctly?
@flyguy4515 yes, better aim, further casting and faster casting abilities. Crankbait and jerkbait suck on a spinning reel. And honestly, looks cooler
