Good review, but I have to disagree with you about the XT. I don't know if the defender XT case you bought originated from Otterbox (there's a lot of fakes) but when you receive the case you also get a clear installer guide.. and you're pretty much doing the opposite, so I'll share the guide.
The XT case is everything I wished the original defender case was when I first bought it. Now, as long as you know how to do it, it's supereasy to remove if you just want to change it. It was barely possible before (my last case was for the samsung S10, so might have changed a bit since then).
I absolutely love this upgraded version and it's not as bulky as the original.
Directions:
Seperate the lid from back half.
Place device into back half of case.
Tuck each corner of lid frame into back and press along edges. If necessary, gently pull back rubber seal to slip lid frame all the way underneath. 😃
* Also, there's an intendation in the lidframe, on both sides. These help you loosen the rubber seal around the lidframe so you can easily change case if needed.
Hope you like black. No one makes good colors anymore.
How has otterbox not joined the magsafe trend...
I Don't want magsafe
Magsafe apparently makes issues if using the S-Pen, and with the camera. At least thats what I have read so far.
One thing with Otterbox is that the snap ons in the inner shells always tend to break after several months. It becomes "clicky" with the whole phone case. For it's price, you expect more from the company. The rubber outer shell is very good and grippy imo compared to other cases out there.
Which one is smaller the defender xt or the normal defender?
Very similar, but I think the xt wins by a tiny amount

Good content. I dont know what you're looking for, but the otterbox Defender Pro is one of the best protection cases out there. And I should know. Im a cases fanatic. I have the defender pro, supcase unicorn beetle pro, I-Blason Armorbox, ESR shock armor, poetic spartan, mybat, tongate, so as you can see I like to change out my cases a lot.
I have been using Otterbox since the Motorola Droid X2 and this year switched over to the Spigen tough armor with magfit. It's not as grippy, but the buttons are easy to press and a bit slimmer over the defender from Otterbox. I agree with all your points for these Otterbox cases; great insight.
Will the Xt work if I have a Dbrand Skin on the back?

Oh dont give up if you really need the protection it gives. In case yours didnt come with the installer guide, I'll share mine. whats wrong with it ? lookin for a case for the ultra between that one and the defender pro

None of the otterboxes offer magsafe
You don't want magsafe it meases up the heat of phone and also removes s pen fu ctionality
