  • Today we are discussing Rebel Moon. More specifically the star of Rebel Moon, Sofia Boutella. Now there is no denying that Rebel Moon Part 1 didn't have the best reviews. Especially from critics and I have to say when I began making this video, I was concerned about the future of the Rebel Moon universe, and with the way Sofia Boutella talks in this interview, it sounds like she has those same fears. But after doing some research, I don’t think things are as bad as they seem so let’s get into todays video.

I'm not worried about critics. Especially the Snyder haters that just hate Snyder who made the reviews. Also, especially RottenTomatoes. They never see things the same way as the audience. Generally. Just don't ever look at critics. It's always opinion based anyway. They may have criteria to base their scores on, but it still doesn't mean it's not a good film. -OG

Ah yes Snyder’s films are only criticized because critics have a hate boner for him. Not because Snyder’s a poor story teller who likes to take the works of others and rob them of what made them good in the first place.

Do u guys think the new owner of WB will bring back Zack's DCEU...after rebel moon got knock out of top ten by older movies meg2 n equalizer3 in just 2 weeks...I seriously doubt it!! It wouldve looked less disaster if it were knock out of no 1 spot but...top ten by meg2 in 2 weeks!! No wonder Scott Stuber left n didn't wait for the release of part 2 n the 1st director's cut..Gunn might be out of the picture too after the buy out BUT!...don't count on em hiring Zack to return helming DC....

  • @Duluvra
    @Duluvra 3 месяца назад +4

I think that last couple of years Snyder was kinda getting a lot of buzz (mostly negative) because of his recent comic book movies like MoS, BvS, JL and that his vision of DCEU is dead now and Gunn is in charge now and he is creating new DC universe and I think that people (critics) are expecting that every future Snyder movie should be like Godfather quality movie and that's why they expect perfection. And when he doesn't deliver perfection then it must be trash and people start bashing on him and his movies. Yes, his movies might not be perfection but they are certainly not trash and awful. And that's why I think he sometimes is getting a bad rep.

  • @CharlieHepp

Great to hear this video thanks so much!!’ the rebel moon situation has been a very controversial debate within the movie-loving community. I loved it as did my wife but my son disliked it and my daughter thought it was just ok. Where is the damn director cut ??? Snyder tells stories in a way where if a movie is significantly cut up it just won’t come outright. Has Snyder said anything about this ??? I think he should although I’m sure he doesn’t want to rock the boat with Netflix and with the recent changing of the guard at the top spot it probably makes sense that he be the good soldier. Let’s get that directors cut available and get part 2 out in April (I believe) then we should see some changes in people’s opinions
Rebel Moon - Non-Director's cut is a very good move. Keep up the great work. I'm not worried about critics. Especially the Snyder haters that just hate Snyder who made the reviews. Also, especially RottenTomatoes. They never see things the same way as the audience. Generally. Just don't ever look at critics. It's always opinion-based anyway. They may have criteria to base their scores on, but it still doesn't mean it's not a good film. -OG Once Henry Cavill starts shooting The Highlander or Warhammer you should talk about the upcoming projects I can't wait for the director's cuts! #RebelMoon As a Snyder fan my problem is expectation. I was expecting an awesome experience apart from Justice League ZC and got an average movie. On any other director, this would have probably been a pass but expectations were high. I have zero expectations for the sequel so that will probably do better but Zack definitely needs to surround with the best in each area. A director, cinematographer, editor, or writer will surely screw on a lot of those areas as his focus is not on point with experience. Hopefully, part 2 and the director's cut can fix the first movie at some point because right now it is a 5 out of 10 and I do t care if that is average or not, 5 out of 10 for the Magnus opera that was promised is not good at all. With Dune: Part Two having just been released, it only further exposes what a gigantic misfire Rebel Moon had been from Zack Snyder. They should release the extended r rated cut of Rebel Moon 2 instead of the pg13 shorter cut Well, indeed RT is apparently against Snyder, so I’d likely never trust that site on any of his movies 2:12. IMDb’s opinion, which is average, sounds about right for this PG-13 version. I personally enjoyed the movie and I’m interested in the SnyderCuts because I’ve been a fan since 300 and because of that I want Rebel Moon to be told mature. Shall be watching part two and I look very forward to the R-rated versions after that. I’d say it is a solid 6 possibly 7 I'm a Snyder fan but I honestly found the movie underwhelming....didn't hate it but found it underwhelming. I don't put the blame 100% on Snyder though as I think Netflix did him a disservice by releasing a cut-down version just to do a director's cut later instead of just putting out his full movie from the get-go. Chances are they'll probably do the same with part 2 in which case, it makes me just want to wait for the director's cut of that instead. I will check out the director's cut of part 2 and hopefully, it's a far better movie. The response to the next film will pretty much determine the future of this universe. I’m not watching either movie till their director's cuts are out. Netflix hasn’t seemed to learn from WBs mistakes with Snyder. I am holding back my judgment until I have seen it the Directors Cuts of both Films. I did see it in the DVD don't watch it yet okay I will be absolutely staggered if we get more of this universe. If Netflix will cancel significantly cheaper projects that are critically acclaimed like Mindhunter and countless other shows, then the Rebel Moon franchise has absolutely no chance. I still haven’t watched mainly because I’m waiting for the director's cut.
Also, I think Snyder was ridiculously stupid by saying the director's cut is the best way to watch. He shot the theatrical cut in the foot. That is one of the worst possible things he could have said. That PG-13 cuts strategy pissed off even hardcore fans to the point lot of them would refuse to watch anything else until the release of the full director cuts so probably Part 2 would not succeed as Part 2 did... Everybody knows ZackSnyder shot his films for adult audiences. That Netflix strategy could make the franchise Born Dead, and I don't understand how Zack bit the bait... Lol, but critics praised ZSJL on rotten tomatoes😂and the film had a huge drop in views after the first week so idk what else to tell you to start you now The critics would have moaned about how long the movie is. How much unnecessary violence and sex are there in it. Especially the tentacle. About how successful the movie is, we can't actually comment on it solely based on the views. There are comics, novelization, merch... These things also come into play here. According to you, the said squad is incredible Coping is hard with this one. IMDB rating 8-10 great exceptional. 7-8 good. 6.5 -7 avg.

I dont think it was universally hated, maybe universally disappointing? Seen a lot of people say “i enjoyed it but i felt like something was missing and that held it back”.
I think the bigger problem is that it sort of just came and went. I really havent seen anybody talk about it beyond the week it came out. This is really the problem with Netflix and streaming exclusive movies. They dont and never will have the “prestige” of a theatrical release. People just dont treat them as that important or as “events”. Were seeing this right now with Dune 2, it literally feels like an event to go out and experience this film. Watching Rebel Moon on the couch, whatever your opinion on the quality of it is, makes it feel like just another movie.

I just don't see why they didn't release the director's cut on Netflix. It's different releasing a 3 or 4 hour movie in theaters, because there's only so many viewings you can have in a day. But a 3 or 4 hour movie on a streaming platform should be no biggie, seeing as some people spend at least 8 hours a day binge-watching a show.

Don’t get me wrong I didn’t hate the characters at all I actually like them it just personally I wanted to learn more about them and there wasn’t no really team bonding moments when they were a team. Im just reposting this comment to answer your question.
Snyder said his original pitch was for the r rated movie. But R rated films don't have mass appeal & can for the most part, only be viewed by adults. So Netflix offered him a deal, where if he agreed to simultaneously shoot a Pg13 version for them, they would be willing to give him money for the project. So it's kind of a compromise.
Snyder says (I'm paraphrasing) he agreed to it because he felt it was irresponsible to take their money and make a movie for a niche audiences ie he would benefit but Netflix would not, because the movie would not have mass viewership. (Netflix depends on that). With this path, both get a result that works for each party. Netflix has the version for general audience & zack gets to make his wacky vision too.
Think of it this way,if he wasn't willing to simultaneously direct a watered down version, the project wouldn't been greenlit.

To me, no. I can't see people outright hating Rebel Moon. Overall, I enjoyed it, but I could tell stuff was cut out.
It sort of felt like watching the theatrical version of Kingdom of Heaven or Batman v. Superman. It clearly had stuff cut out, but it's still overall a pretty decent flick.
The director's cuts of both of those movies are vastly superior products, and I believe the same will be true for both Rebel Moons.

Snyder being on Netflix isn’t helping him cause he is given too much freedom like budgets huge enough and his ideas aren’t checked through others which leads to him just getting worse with each film cause you get visuals but you don’t get characters and it’s filled with mythologies and ideas and his style sure they will probably have fun making it but this is proof that a directors style hurts his projects but if he instead for others projects and ideas that can match his style work like watchmen and 300

5,6 imdb is a typical B movie score. It actually is. Man this movie is dumb. Characters appear and dissapear randomly. Total mess. 160 mln for 2 of those (actually one very long and boring movie cut in half) - is too much. Dune part 1 costed about that much with approximately same amount of footage. Godzilla Minus one - 15 mln or even 12 as they say. Who needs this piece of plagiarizm when there are people who can actually make real movies - 5 times cheaper? Snyder is one of the lamiest storytellers in the big industry. His latest zombie movie is pure trash with no meaning or clue. And his interviews? He said he didn't like slow motion that much. This guy seems to enjoy living in a bubble made of his own fart. Especially I hate his philistine philosophy with a hint of Ayn Rand (another disabled storyteller) - and the way he treats the beloved characters. Screw him and his work.

dude we havent even seen the REAL movie yet! we only saw the extremely watered down version, and i think netflix made a mistake not releasing the rated R version initially, they keep making the same mistake. I guarantee the director's cut will be off the charts incredible.

Why do we keep giving this guy a crutch with these Director’s Cuts?!!! Is he incapable of telling a coherent story in a reasonable running time? That’s pretty much what y’all are saying.

After that JL cut, it looks like he got really comfortable doing director's cuts. Like he really needs 3 hours to tell a story.

"Is he incapable of telling a coherent story in a reasonable running time? "
What's a reasonable running time? Because 3 hour movies are becoming more common including The Batman which was 3 hours.
The 3-hour duration of BvS was necessary to establish the DCEU, as Warner Bros hurried into Justice League without developing individual hero movies. Suicide Squad didn't contribute much to building the DCEU and was made at the wrong time.
With Justice League, it seems that originally, it was envisioned as a two-part saga.
Rebel Moon didn't have a shorter cut in mind initially; the decision for a PG-13 version came later, which was a misstep.

Great to hear this video thanks so much!!’the rebel moon situation has been a very controversial debate within the movie loving community. I loved it as did my wife but my son disliked it and my daughter thought it was just ok. Where is the damn directors cut ??? Snyder tells stories in a way where if a movie is significantly cut up it just won’t cone out right. Has Snyder said anything about this ??? I think he should although I’m sure he doesn’t want to rock the boat with Netflix and with the recent changing of the guard at the top spot it probably makes sense that he be the good soldier. Let’s get that directors cut available and get that part 2 out in April (I believe) then we should see some changing of people’s opinions

The movie isn't that bad,it just has an "empty" second act & I also think the Kora flashback wasn't great . It was only there to explain stuff bit didn't fit in narratively. But honestly, I hate flashbacks & I'm not a fan of backstory so maybe I'm biased.
