The problem is not that they add what the players wanted, but that they add little things as if its a whole new world. I’ve sometimes wondered if Mojang (or perhaps Microsoft) is terrified of somehow changing or adding something to Minecraft that permanently “breaks” it and stops it being an infinite money printer. So they stick to making “smaller” changes that don’t affect Minecraft much as a whole.

The content in the update is _fine_ to me. It's just the removal of old mechanics that I dislike. I think that people hating on the new pigs are just dissatisfied with how the update did very little overall. I think that Mojang needs to make an effort to be more up front in communication with the community about what will happen in the updates rather than teasing it as if it's some big deal. People are always gonna take three emojis and turn it into the perfect update in their mind.
Mojang was more up front with updates, and the community complained. Then they did the updates asked for, like fixing the code, and the community complained, because "NOT THAT CODE!", and they do small emoji teasers, and the community complained... Notice a little trend? The community tends to complain whenever something is ever done, and they just blame Mojang/Microsoft every time, regardless of what it is.
I think mojang do prefer bedrock but that doesn't mean they care about the players. It's just that they have more control over bedrock and more ways to make money from it. Java is too deep in the modding scene for something like the marketplace to work there.
Maybe it's because Bedrock is the platform for PC, Consoles, and Mobile Devices instead of just being PC-exclusive. Not quite the smart business move to abandon the entire console and mobile playerbase.
3:25 Pretty sure F3 ain't meant to be something you casually use in normal play. Of course, I'm the fool for thinking "meant to be" means anything to people like this...
I think the movement change is reasonable, but they really should buff sneaking speed to what it was when moving diagonally. That way they fix the bug (which it was, its a common mistake in videogames programming) and people keep the speed. No need to abuse oversights in the code, just give the speed to everyone.
within this comments section, i've seen people say both "why didn't they add even more variants and update the models while they're at it" and "the new pigs don't look very minecrafty, pigs didn't need a new texture, no one asked for this" now imagine that discourse with entirely new mechanics and gameplay features, and maybe you'll start to understand why we're getting pig variants instead of an end update
So why was the nether update arguably the most successful update of all time? Because it expanded a dimension that had next to NOTHING, and added tons of USEFUL stuff. Even the mostly decorative stuff like blackstone and basalt had functions to justify them existing beyond building blocks. Any argument against an end update is rendered null and void with the existence of the nether update
@@EmperorPenguin1217 yeah but modern mojang would never be able to pull off a good end update. They will add like one mob per biome and have it only have one use and most of the blocks will just be decoration.
I asked my kid sister about the new pigs, she said that she likes them and that the new piglets are very cute. That's thw type of opinion mojang actually cares about
Exactly. Mojang doesn’t care about the Java player who barely plays, mainly just watches RUclips, and hasn’t spent a dime in the game or its merch in half a decade they care about my niece and nephews who love bedrock in their switch and Xbox, buy maps and Minecraft-branded yogurts and have shown me the trailer four times. I wish the adult community of this game would stop being like this and instead take a page out of the adult fans of Lego community, understanding that they can enjoy something even if they aren’t the primary audience for that thing.
@@mikefromco Yeah the difference is that lego actually makes good things... You're doing the "its for kids so its okay if its bad" thing, i feel bad for your kids.
@@mikefromco Minecraft was NOT originally meant as just a kids game, but a game for all ages. Microsoft and Mojang has been shoehorning it as a kids game for year and forcing major changes onto everyone and treating the adult audience like children in the process. Mojang CAN ruin your game the moment you update, forcing players to stay on older versions to prevent their games from being ruined by Mojang
For bedrock, it actually does show the black outline hitbox on the block you're standing on when you can place another on the front. I'm ambivilant on whether they add it to Java or not. I'd much prefer the crafting book's Right-click-to-craft-item feature. It's like ordering from a menu, but it shows up instantly in your inventory. You can even use it while you have other stuff in the crafting table. And shift-clicking auto-crafts a stack (if able).
There actually a really cool resource pack that adds biome variants for creepers in a very vanilla plus way but still staying true to the og creeper There’s also a fresh animations support pack for it
it is a minor update, though ill admit is its just a tad bit too small, mabey they can add a few more farm animal varients, that would make it fully worth it
1:43 And that's been the big problem in the Minecraft community for years now. Expectations. People expect big things and then get upset because their expectations weren't met. I mean, what's wrong with people? You don't buy a lottery ticket with the expectation that you'll definitely hit the jackpot and then be mad at the company that you didn't get it. If people have expectations because they read HUGR things into a few emojis and then only get "little things", then it's their own fault, I'm sorry. Keep your expectations low and realistic and you won't be disappointed. The Minecraft community has become so stressful in the last few years.
Realistic? Look at patches when Mojang was still small company with ton of content. And now when they are under multi-billion company management they retexturing stuff and that's called and update? This updates can be put by solo dude in few days, and then give him another week to polish bugs, not months
@@Jakaj99 Then why do you say such things? They have multiple platforms for which they have to program and test it, PCs, consoles, smartphones and so on. They also want to respond to feedback, where they also have to think about what they can and cannot do. Maybe they try something and then it doesn't fit and is discarded. We should just be happy that we still get regular free updates after all these years for a 30 bucks game. What game releases HUGE updates all the time? One after another? Especially when you consider that there is no end in sight to the updates for Minecraft? A banger can't come out all the time. It's no longer an indie game, it has a huge community, which means responsibility.
Unfortunately no matter how much mojang does, no matter how they change the way they do things. If an update is smaller then the nether update people are going to complain.
My biggest problem with mojang is how they don't do those small things that take no effort and make the game simply better (like the muddy pig), but rather go out of their way to make the game worse (movement changes)
There are multiple groups doing different stuff, adding various pigs are just coated bug fixings underline in the engine/adding stuff to the scripting api or doing major changes. As mojang is a corporate entity, one person don't have that much permissions to the codebase as in idle game. They will do something minor when it come to cooperate between different groups as their jobs are favoured in their own major (texture, model, revision, script api, client, server, network, etc) Whenever there are complaints about the lack amount contents, the change-logs are a long long list of bug fixings and new technical features.
And the communities are too crowned with biased sources to not gather constructive information, but rather targeted hates against changes. I'm not saying feedback is wrong but the feedback's contents must be considered. Anyone would not listen to hates, mojang too. The movement changes are a classic example of backward compatible lol, I hate that backward compatibility comes with a limitation of what can be done. They should have do the changes as a toggle like redstone experience or stuff. Tho, I prefer the normalized movements, mojang could tweak the speed or whatever, players will adapt anyways
1:53 you bet once my PC is rebuilt (we took it apart but it was just like the pc from the monitor it’s s till usable) I’m going to spawn so much of every type of wolf especially ashen wolf, it’s so cute
3:26 I've always hated the "just use F3" argument. Mojang has explicitly stated in their game design book that F3 is a debug feature, exploiting it in survival is cheating, and that they want to add fair and balanced features that offer non-cheating alternatives to some of F3's more useful functionality. "Just use cheats" is not a reasonable argument.
You can't just plug your ears and pretend that a feature in your game that is easily accessible doesn't exist just because you didn't mean it to be used. Either stick to your guns and lock the F3 menu behind other requirements like a specific debug mode you need to turn on (And face the community response), or accept that features like these are useless to add to the game because the F3 menu exists. You can't just pretend the F3 menu doesn't exist and add features whose purpose are easily fulfilled via one button at any point in the game.
F3 is literally just a button that's always accessible. People will ALWAYS choose the best method. It's like the people who unironically think the Glare would be a good addition, when it's rendered redundant if you have EYES.
I think the bridging in Bedrock works when you try placing a block, and your player is occupying the space where the block would usually go, or maybe like Scaffolding.
2:41 I feel like at this point there should be like newtons 4th law which states that anything with visual substance can be turned into loss within any theoretical plane
the actual comic itself is not very fun, it's just that the comic has been referenced a lot that it became a joke kinda like how never gonna give you up isn't a very memey song but it's been used as a gag a lot
I believe the author of the webcomic made mostly funny silly comics untill loss, which was unexpectedly super serious and sad. And since then it's been memed and subtly referenced everywhere.
As for the pig variants, I don't really have much problem for it. I'm a bedrock player, so a little ambience isn't bad. And while it would suck as a main point update, it's a small thing they whipped up a couple weeks into the new year, presumably as a small side spice for whatever they are working on for Spring Minecraft Live. They're still working on the more interesting ones, and I like ambiance so I don't really have a complaint. The movement nerf is kinda stupid though. While I get general parity, I feel like allowing the two versions to have a bit of a separate nitty gritty identity is fine, since it has to stay that way anyway (redstone for example). And whenever parity changes do happen, it seems to be removing a cool feature the other version has. For java or Bedrock. Bedrocks suffered a lot of feature loss under parity. These are my opinions. Feel free to debate them if you feel so inclined.
I think the main issue with the pigs that people are having is that at least to me it feels almost unintrusive or unnoticeable a lot of the time. Like the pigs are cool but there's only 2 new ones and they only spawn in specific biomes so depending on the biome you will either get the same one pig most of the playthrough or a slightly different looking pig instead of the normal one. The only time you will see the different variants a lot is if you are exploring which most people don't do in vanilla because there's not a whole lot of a reason to do so out side of more building blocks.
Yeah, all the new updates in the last however many years have been about encouraging exploration… except, then all the nearby chunks will be loaded by the time the new update comes around… :/
Vanila exploring is really pointless, i need like 20 structure mods to even have POI. Just... Why? Wow, you should check that cool birch forest we generated for you! So cooooool! What do you mean 'it's just logs and leaves'? It's CONTENT
Pigs don’t like to be muddy :( they are naturally cleaner animals than dogs. Imagine tightly packing a bunch of retrievers into a mud pit of a usual pig pen and expecting their fluff to still shine as advertised
I've used mods before that add animal variants and when done correctly it's great! Mojang just needs to put more than 20 minutes of effort into the textures
- Leaves are pretty cool - I could see why people don't like the pigs, though I personally find them pleasing to look at. They are high quality though. - Lodestone became more useful - More datapack-related improvements, map creators still eating _good_ - Change on the movement, "technically" fixing a 15-year old bug. In reality, *this is a bad fix.* This bug became a feature long ago, there are way more downsides than upsides for fixing it now. (as I see it) Overall, I'd say there's one thing to actually be negative about in this snapshot. The rest are cool additions, that maybe need tweaks but good in its idea. I reckon reverting the movement change specifically is a net gain for the game.
I agree with all of that. I think the new pigs are cute. Seems like too many people are SO allergic to change they just hate anything that's different. But the movement change is just plain bad, all disadvantage, only advantage is correct math, which doesn't add anything of real value to the gameplay. And takes away what's already been enjoyed for so long. THAT is the kind of change that should be rejected.
I don’t get the pig change hate. It’s just like the piglin change. They dislike it because they’re not used to it forgetting it’s exactly what they asked for. The new pigs look great and they’re accurate and I want them to do it for the rest of the animals. I especially want highland cows
I feel like the main problem is that updates don't really feel exciting, when you add small features that don't really change much of the game dynamic, people will surely focus mostly on what you didn't add rather than what you did. I think Stardew Valley's last update is a good example of how to actually make small improvements, most things added are quality of life related, they improve gameplay and expand A LOT on features already existing, such as dialogue, random events, the burden of lack of energy in the beggining of the game, it gave new ways for you to experiment and remove certain tasks (such as collecing all golden wallnuts) but at a cost and the choice is yours after all, amongst a sea of other litlle things that just make you feel like going back to 1.5 isn't really a good thing because you will likely be annoyed by some stuff that became clever in 1.6.
Community: Mojang, plese do something with content bloating, please add functionality to ambient mobs Mojang: Hey, look. New pigs. Thoose on java ho using resourcepack with 300 teture variants for every mob would be happy !
The problem isn't which edition gets the other edition's features, it is which feature is getting added. I don't think the java community would have been as angry if they added putting potions in cauldrons instead of changing something people have relied on for a long time (faster movement diagonally while sneaking) and I don't think the bedrock community would have been as angry if they added more functionality to the offhand instead of nerfing enchanted golden apples without fixing the slow regeneration
You know, i think part of the pig problem is that java players really dont NEED new cometic animal variants. Mods like optifine already add that and are relatively easy to install. If they actually did something fungtionally different, like the colored froglights or mooshroom mushroom colors, they would have SOME purpose at least.
@BryanLu0 when were the cat and dog variants added, though? As the game ages, people's wants change too. It might be fun for a first time player but as someone who's played for years i could care less about one little texture change on a mob
@BryanLu0 despite that my craft servers end the same, everyone sitting around bored because the ender dragon is dead. I want objectives, not more sandbox if that clears it up
Are there really people mad? 2024 was the most feature compact years of Minecraft. And all of them are great. While last snapshot were technical changes, they were all really big changes for textures pack and Creator tools. I'm assuming next snapshot we'll get Cow Variants and something else as well. I'm excited.
"2024 was the most feature compact years of Minecraft." That's just objectively wrong "And all of them are great." The entirety of the pale garden? Armadillos? Ominous trials? Lol, lmao even
The only upside to modern versions, and specificall6 1.20.1 is modding has never been easier. You can just slap shit into a modpack and it works, not to mention how optimized the newer versions are. I will never play vanilla though.
I don't mind the occasional filler her and there but it's been a while since we got a substantial update that actually changes things about the game. Why else are people clamoring for a end update, it's because people want something new unique that doesn't feal like a nother filler random stuff update.

The reason you're able to place blocks in mid-air on bedrock is because very early on sneaking wasn't added yet. I'm also gonna guess another reason is to make it more convenient for people who play pocket or console.

The problem is not that they add what the players wanted, but that they add little things as if its a whole new world. I mean, why not add other things to pigs too? like, enhance the control and speed when walking with a saddle on it, or even make a rare variant that drops a better chopsteak, add ears like the pigman or whatever. It just feel like they do the minimum they can
I’ve sometimes wondered if Mojang (or perhaps Microsoft) is terrified of somehow changing or adding something to Minecraft that permanently “breaks” it and stops it being an infinite money printer. So they stick to making “smaller” changes that don’t affect Minecraft much as a whole.
@@hyperon_ion9423It is literally that actually

I think the movement change is reasonable, but they really should buff sneaking speed to what it was when moving diagonally. That way they fix the bug (which it was, its a common mistake in videogames programming) and people keep the speed. No need to abuse oversights in the code, just give the speed to everyone.

If these pigs upset people, I don’t think anything will make them happy.
There have been several things in recent updates that have made people happy. You're just upset we have standards.
within this comments section, i've seen people say both "why didn't they add even more variants and update the models while they're at it" and "the new pigs don't look very minecrafty, pigs didn't need a new texture, no one asked for this"
now imagine that discourse with entirely new mechanics and gameplay features, and maybe you'll start to understand why we're getting pig variants instead of an end update

Exactly.
They will do something minor when it come to cooperate between different groups as their jobs are favoured in their own major (texture, model, revision, script api, client, server, network, etc)
Whenever there are complaints about the lack amount contents, the change-logs are a long long list of bug fixings and new technical features.

Mojang has explicitly stated in their game design book that F3 is a debug feature, exploiting it in survival is cheating, and that they want to add fair and balanced features that offer non-cheating alternatives to some of F3's more useful functionality. "Just use cheats" is not a reasonable argument.

It's not cheating, the menue is available with no setting changes.
@@pokade3659even though i think f3 isn't cheating if they lock it to creative the community will riot

Wait I didn't know people don't like this update
They added 2 textures that took about 5minutes to make and call it an update lol
And how long did it take to rewire things under the hood to allow entity textures to be data-driven?
The pig update should have added the Techno name tag easter egg. ):
Just... Why?

I miss Minecraft Earth. It was so much fun to me.
I think what they should be doing is adding all those variants from Minecraft Earth that are fully modeled and unused
I've used mods before that add animal variants and when done correctly it's great! Mojang just needs to put more than 20 minutes of effort into the textures
Phoenix: makes a muddy pig variant
Mojang: and we took that personality
- Leaves are pretty cool
- I could see why people don't like the pigs, though I personally find them pleasing to look at. They are high quality though.
- Lodestone became more useful
- More datapack-related improvements, map creators still eating _good_
- Change on the movement, "technically" fixing a 15-year old bug. In reality, *this is a bad fix.* This bug became a feature long ago, there are way more downsides than upsides for fixing it now. (as I see it)
Overall, I'd say there's one thing to actually be negative about in this snapshot.
The new forms are covered in fur aren't they? Maybe they thought the fur would obscure the nipples?

overall honestly a decent snapshot. if they added the pig tails and muddy pigs that would very cool though.
