    Hi Hilton I'm glad to advise that I purchased the wireless Apple/Android interface unit from Unique Auto Developments and it took all of 5 days to arrive in Pretoria South Africa with DHL Express and that included a public holiday in between. Now the unit has been fitted by a third party and I am in the process of acquainting myself with the full system before I post any further comments.. let me just say I'm really happy with my purchase...contemplating making one or more You Tube videos to explain what I've discovered.

      Nice Mark. Do post back on your experience with it. I will be doing my own installation as I've done that sort of thing so many times before. I want my USB in my armrest as another subscriber said they supply a nice USB that fits next to the others. One just needs to drill a hole for it to clip into and then it looks OEM.

    Interesting on the Tesla screen and look forward to seeing it in the car Denis is testing. One thing I think is that the Tesla panel looks ok for LHD only car because of the fastening clips. I fitted the Joyeauto device and whilst it did indeed work I wasn't overly impressed by the interaction with the touch screen. This seemed to require way too much pushing to advance and in fairness I think this was down to the capability (or lack thereof) of the Bosch head unit. It also froze up a few times and again to be absolutely fair this may have been down to the AA app on the phone which was "wired". My son tried his IPhone and Carplay worked faultlessly and felt more nimble. In the event I removed it only to discover my in built sat nav no longer worked! Now that came as a major surprise and annoyance albeit it now occasionally springs to life. So again to be fair it might just be a poor connection somewhere but having taken the dash apart (BTW a very easy thing to do) to check I'm not so sure. So now it looks as if I will have to put it back in to reacquire sat nav through Android Auto. As for secreting it somewhere else in the car then I believe the only workable solution is that demonstrated by Dennis.

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  3 года назад

      Thanks for the feedback. Very interesting that you had issues even with the smaller one. It seemed Dennis had to run wires to the backup lights to activate the OEM camera on the Lexus Android unit. Not sure I want to go through that pain again as I did it with my Audi. Complete faff to pull off. Perhaps the Unique Auto one works better than the Ali one you installed as Dennis has no issues with his. 😉

    • @dontuno
      @dontuno 3 года назад

      @@carfanfan Could be that Unique did something but the Joyeauto was the very most current version (of which I believe there are at least 2) and certainly appeared happier running Carplay. I may also just take out the glove box beforehand to see whether it would be viable to mount it there through some fair or foul means albeit I think it will have to mount as per Dennis's approach. With either would be mounting technique right angle connection adapters would provide a neater installation. Time for some research to see whether such fittings are available.

    • @Jimbo8012
      @Jimbo8012 Год назад

    Tesla style unit would have great potential, I like the button layout, but is the overall trim finish to let it down. As you mentioned, you would have to wrap it to make it works, also functionality is questionable. Smaller unit fits better, however is it really worth it? I can stream Spotify via Bluetooth with no problem and use my phone as secondary screen when it's on phone holder. I updated maps, so prefer to use those, even they not exactly perfect. My conclusion would be, if Tesla unit was better integrated to dash board, I would consider it, unfortunately with current finish is looking very cheap and that's what putting people off

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  3 года назад

      I agree. It's not all about the screen. It's about ergonomics and that unit just is not ergonomical. I'm still on the fence and will watch patiently as to how they improve it. It's plasticky and we don't know how it will wear over time.

      Thanks smiley 😊. Yeah, while Tesla unit detracts somewhat from Jaguar's beautiful design, it's more functional. It's a lot of dough to lay out for something that could prove to less reliable. I will probably fit the box for now so that 8 can at least have Android Auto in my car with up-to-date maps. It works well and they have good support. I have a jaguar xf 2010
    Question.
    When i install either of these style screens
    Do i have to use the original Bluetooth connection?

    Hoping to just bypass it all using this uograde multimedia option.

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  10 месяцев назад

      No. You can use the Bluetooth of the Android system. I did another video where I installed an Android Auto box in my XFR, and with that, I used the new systems Bluetooth instead of the OEM one. In fact, I cleared all the history out of the OEM system as well as the old satnav as I didn't need them anymore. With the Android auto system, cheaper than either of these in this video, you won't look back. You have Google maps with satellite views, whatsapp, Spotify, music apps, weather etc. I play literally everything through Android Auto now and only use the OEM system to adjust car settings and climate control.

      @@carfanfan what about the sound quality? I have an XF-S X250 2009 Premium Luxury with 330W Jaguar Premium System. I saw one yt vid where a guy claimed his subwoofer stopped working. According to all those aliexpress sellers they offer Dual System (Android + Denso too) but that would mean I would have to switch to Denso in order to listen to music on original Jaguar quality. Their units are advertised as 4 x 45 W or 4 x 60 W. If I connect new unit via AUX port it will still be slightly worst quality and I would not be able to switch the music via steering wheel. That is a bit of a downfall. I really would like to keep the original sound quality and yet gain option to have Android, shame they are not able to use the original amplifier.

      Nope. Not unless you're hood with woodwork. The wood trim on the dash is not wood color but grey. You would need to buy an identical piece that matches you car, cut it in half and the cut to the measurements of the supplied plastic piece. The vent piece is also grey plastic and doesn't match the aluminum trim across the dash, so you would need to wrap the entire aluminum trim on your dash with a carbon Fibre type vinyl or something to make it look presentable. The unit itself is great, but it's a Jag. It needs to look good too and doesn't.

      @@jaguarbelgium-BE yeah I've seen that. Trust me I've been highly critical of this system since I saw it. Time will tell but as mentioned, I don't like the idea of having to take the dash apart again when this fails. The Unique Auto version is easier to install and remove if faulty.

      Yep - I agree. Personally I wouldn't be fitting the Tesla screen one to my my car. While it's nice to have a large screen, one wants to also retain the classic dash design which this totally aberrates. Their silver vent surround doesn't match the aluminum finish of the dash and their black trim to replace the wood trim finishes the job in making it completely unbearable. It would bother me every time I climb in the car. The Unique Auto one is a way better solution to bring the car up to date with today's tech and still retain the original look of the dash design.

      honestly I think the interior of the jaguar xf 250 is timeless, personally I think it is even more beautiful than the xf260
      even the model xf 250 much nicer than the xf 260
